Here's the article from the Milwaukee Journel/Sentinel.

"Erik Buell Racing, in East Troy, says it has secured financing from GE Capital to build a motorcycle dealership network.

The company, founded by motorcycle racer and former Harley-Davidson employee Erik Buell, says the financing from GE Capital's Commercial Distribution Finance unit will allow dealers to stock, market and sell a wide variety of motorcycles and related products.

Buell's first production motorcycle is the EBR 1190RS, a street bike that sells for about $40,000. The company also says it's developing other models aimed at the high-performance motorcycle market."

I'd say it's not the selling I'm worried about, it's the service at said "dealerships"!

I don't think we are going to have the same problems that we had before.

Anyone that becomes a EBR dealer will have wanted to become a EBR dealer this time around.
It wont be a "Okay... we'll try to sell some of those bikes".
"Buell?.. yeah we got one in the back corner.. but wouldn't ya like to look at a REAL bike"... and so on

Two seasons: "I'd say it's not the selling I'm worried about, it's the service at said "dealerships"!

I agree to that mostly, and will add my own experience here in SLC area of Utah.

We have four HD dealerships in my reach, all within 40 miles, one only 5 minutes away. Only one 40 miles away carried Buells when I bought both of mine, a 2002 M2 and my current 1125R. At the dealer where I bought mine I was always "taken care of" for service and recalls but was mostly always treated as a red headed stepchild (no offense intended), and the mechanics were never trained on Buells. Many times I had to instruct the "good HD techs" on a recall they did not even know about. Luckily they had access to HD tech support to help them do the job and for the most part the recalls were done properly. Not one of these four HD dealers will do Buell maintenance work now and getting Buell parts is almost non existent Back then I helped start a local Buell support group thats on BadWeb for help with Buell maintenance and its helped us quite a bit.

I do hope new EBR dealers will be much different and I think it would be a good idea that ANY dealer who does "real" sportbikes would be better then HD ever was with a few great exceptions.

No worries the dealers are going to be worthy of the bike. No comparisons to last time.

Glad to hear Dave and I'm sure everybody who is a potential buyer from EBR will also be glad. Thanks for posting; you always seem to have some pretty good inside info.

Here's a nice synopsis of what this means:

"Erik Buell Racing is well on its way, after announcing today that the American sport bike company has secured inventory financing from GE Capital. An important step in setting up a strong dealer network, GE’s commitment to Erik Buell Racing means that EBR dealers will be able to purchase their inventory on credit (the standard industry practice) from a top-tier financial institution. GE Capital has become the go-to financier in the motorcycle and powersports industry, ..."

No inside info; just knowing that Erik seldom makes the same mistake twice.
