I've been in the hospital with gallbladder issues since Tuesday with the closest thing to food being broth, lemon ice and jello, and that was only allowed Thursday evening and again today. All the complications seem to be behind me so tomorrow morning I'll finally be getting it taken out. Wish me luck!

Ps, I've been motorcycle-less for a few months, while I've been laying here I've been trying to decide between another xb9sx, a Royal Enfield or a scooter lol. Must be the morphine.

Good luck, I had my pulled out about a year ago.

Unless they tell you differently than my docs did, you won't have to change your diet much...but your...um..."food processing routine" is going to drastically change. Chicken especially, for me anyway. So, don't be alarmed if you notice things changing after you eat.

The surgery? About as hard as a tonsilectamy. I have four 1/4" scars around my belly from the scopes going in...and that's it. Easy stuff.

Well that's what they're hoping for, but if it's too damaged, inflamed, etc they may have to do the old school slice open. This whole week has been Murphy's law so far, but I'm hopeful.

Tell me more about the digestive changes.

I noticed I can't handle rich foods as well as before but I no longer get attacks so I will take that trade anyday. As far as the surgery CAKE if I had a desk job I could have gone back to work that day no kidding.
Best of luck and No worries it's cake !!!!!

Basically (and to keep it as clean as possible for a public forum)...eat, then stick close to the bathroom for the next half hour or so. You are now an Express Lane for food.

(If you're the queasy sort, or just don't care, or hate people who get into TMI conversations...stop reading now and move to the next post) : )

I've found that cheeses, breads, pasta, veggies, salads, and good ol' American Junk Food (hot dogs and stuff) are still relatively normal, timeframe-wise, and emergency countermeasures are generally not required. Chicken, for some reason...shoots right through - fried, BBQ, shake-n-bake, makes no difference. Red meat is hit or miss, pork is OK, ham is no problem (I like my ham n cheese subs for lunch)...but basically I've learned to eat before going out, and to square everything away before leaving.

Gone are my cast-iron-stomach days....sigh.....

Well that's good to know. I'll be sure to eat different things during my 2 weeks off work so I can determine what's safe to eat when I'm working (truck driver).
Thanks for the heads up.

My sister is a physicians assistant. She removes gall bladders like she's ordering a pizza. Nuthin' to it. Good luck deciding on your new ride - that will be much more difficult than the procedure.

Surgery went well yesterday. It took me a while to come to afterward, the fact I was laid up in the hospital and either on a clear liquid or nothing diet for the 5 days before didn't help since I was pretty weak going in. They kept me overnight to make sure I was ok. Gettin out this afternoon to lay around for another 2 weeks or so.

Did they scope, or cut?

If you got scoped...you'll be up and about by the weekend. : )

I ended up eating a late dinner yesterday, breakfast and lunch at the hospital so I haven't had a meal "on the outside" yet. I did order a cheeseburger, fries and chocolate cake for lunch. Wasn't bad.

I got mine removed yesterday too : (
I don't do so well with hospitals though. Hate needles, doctors, lying still, anticipation and pain. Got all of the above.
Back home now after a one night sleepover. Still aching and it's painful to move about too much. Really sleepy. They have recommended low fat diet for a while.

Have to say that the thread content didn't match my initial thoughts from the title.

I presumed you were about to head off somewhere on a Suzuki dirt bike.

Glad you're doing well.

You too Vamps.

I had mine out on a Thursday back to work on a Monday I am a forklift mechanic and I probably should have waited a bit longer, hurt myself quite a bit for awhile after that.

Onto day three and feeling a little better now. Cuts are still tender and pulling when I move : ( (I know, I'm a sook)
The aneasthetic makes me really sleepy and nauseous anyway, but getting better slowly.
I'm more worried about what I will be able to eat once I'm healed? It sounds like everyone is different, but I was hoping I would be okay by Christmas, in a few weeks, to celebrate a little, after being on a restricted diet since all this started three months ago?

I've yet to find anything that I couldn't deal with food wise yet. I had Chinese, general tso chicken last night and that was a little unsettling. I've had chicken a few times and it wasn't that, so it must have been the sauce. Wasn't bad, just a little unsettling for a bit.

Everybody's body does react differently. Just...try different things. Try your favorites first, since you know you'll eat them more often : )

I posted my experience not as Law...just as experience. Nobody warned me of anything, so it was a little unsettling (no pun) until I researched a bit and found it to be a not-uncommon result.

Compared to the pain I felt when the GB went? I'll take it. Anyday. : )

I guess I got lucky.

Backstory - in '08 I shattered both legs, broke 4 ribs, cracked 3 vertebrae, severely tore a rotator cuff, collapsed a lung...and some other fun stuff. Then spent 6 months in the hospital learning to walk again. I have a fairly high pain tolerance, needless to say, after getting through all that.

When my gallbladder went, I had no attacks. No issues at all, ever. No inkling that something may happen one day. One night about a year ago, after dinner, watching TV in my chair, I felt like I got shot with a cannonball.

It took me about eight seconds to find my phone, and call 911. It hurt that bad. It was like nothing I had ever felt.

They only kept me for 3 days. If I never see another bowl of jello...it'll be too soon!

I was rather unlucky from start to finish. When I first went to the ER on Black Friday evening after not feeling good for 3 days, they made me an appointment to see the surgeon in his office for Monday. Scheduled surgery for dec 7. Worked that night then started feeling sick/ pain again tues afternoon. Went back to ER, they admitted me cuz my liver enzimes had tripled from the elevated levels of 4 days before. An MRI the next morning revealed 3 gall stones had gotten out of my gallbladder and into a common bile duct shared with the pancreas, liver and gallbladder of course. They had to do some weird scope that went down into and past my stomach, then some wire was deployed up into that duct to get the stones out. That procedure had a 6% chance of causing pancreatitis, and delay surgery while I would be pumped full of antibiotics to calm my pancreas down. Well of course that happened, so I had to wait thru the weekend while my pancreas enzymes went back close enough to normal that they could operate. In my surgeons words, " when you decide to have a gallbladder problem, you cover all possible basses."
I went to see the Dr today, he told me to stay out of the truck til after Christmas. He said with the way this has gone he'd rather I sat around a few days too long than go back too soon and have some sort of issue.

Isn't it great when they stick by you in your time of need?

I won't get into it in a public thread...but suffice it to say I no longer have a wife.

Sorry to hear it. Things will turn around.
