Of course it's slow, it's Saturday...

I brought a new Rubicon on Thursday as an extended test drive. My wife loved that thing. Employee pricing brought it to $24000 after $1500.00 downpayment, but she vetoed the purchase...

Soon...

My son fired up his '76 4x4 Chevy monster truck today. First time with his newly installed 396 cu. in. big block. With stock exhaust manifolds and a foot of pipe it sounds like a big radial airplane engine!

I'll get pictures up tomorrow or so.

Word around the dealership today is that the Wrangler may be offered with a 5.7 Hemi from the factory soon. Maybe it's good that I didn't get the 3.6 Rubicon...

doing a head on a 3.6l wrangler today. first time on wrangler, have done mini-van, journey & durango now this.

with wrangler it starts with a ticking noise upper left bank. then you need a head. new head has harder valve guides & seats. newer production vehicles are getting the new head already on them.

just some fyi i guess

Just picked up a CRC Link for the Jk, got it used for a good price.
We've been helping with the restoration of a local fire tower on top of Mt Beacon, this area is normally off limits to wheelers and it has some amazing rock crawling. Last weekend was the dedication ceremony and we were tasked with delivering the mayor, part of the town council and members of the DEC and Parks Commission, odd to be driving the people who are usually responsible for keeping us out. They seemed to really enjoy the wheelin and were surprised to learn that we are the ones who clean the trails of debri left by the hikers on a normal basis. Hopefully made some progress.

Uh-oh. Seems like my son's 396 came with some complications. Looks like the PO may have dropped a screw or bolt down the intake when he swapped the carburetor. I hate it when that happens.Otherwise it fired right up. Bang-ity knocking and spark plug mashing is not a good thing. Here we go again!

Not suspension related, but here's what I worked on for the rig this past weekend. . . rear cargo storage. Over the years have used several options: Action Packers, duffel bags, a foot locker, etc., but wanted a better solution. Here's what I went with - drawers! These are a good fit, all steel construction, and lockable.

Of course, these two drawers allow some dead space on the sides and rear of the drawers, so the solution is fitting a "top" to the drawers, something I could put some D-Rings or a trak-loc system for storing additional gear.

The scrap carpet I picked up at the big box store matched the OEM carpet of the drawers pretty well. Then fabbed up a few "side doors" with hinges and door pulls to store soft goods on the sides of the unit.

A lot better way to store winch accessories, 1st Aid kit, tow straps, spare parts, tools, etc.

"I'd hire a man with those abilities..."

Ha! Hold out for a guy that can build the drawers as well - - I'm guilty of doing just the "finish work" by buying the drawers and then fabbing the surround. . .

After I clock out, I'll be a member of the Jeep club. It's not a Wrangler, which sucks. But it's also not a Compass or a Patriot, which is good.

I brought home my new Jeep last weekend... Not a Wrangler, but it's pretty neat. It's a bit muddier now.

'They' make a 4" lift for it with coilovers, but it's pricy. It's only got about 650 miles on it this morning. I've ordered an air locker and compressor for it at wholesale... . I supposed WAY down the road, there could be a SAS for the front, but right now I just needed a reliable daily driver with some off road capability.

I did some light orr roading to get to a fishing spot, but nothing extreme and no scratches.

Couple of pics of the finished project. . . Airline track on the shelves allows multiple tie-down locations, static anchor points (on left shelf) for more standard gear.

Stuff on shelves. . .

O-Rings pop off the anchors when not needed.

Does that have three blocks stacked on top of the axle? I thought stacking blocks was unsafe.

Sort of and yes. One of the things you are seeing is the aluminum degree shim on the top of 2 blocks. If I am thinking of the right one, this toyota was built in the 80s, they did things different back then. That many shocks will hydraulically lock the rear axle solid. The ONLY thing that I see that is "right" in this picture is the braided brake line, LOL.
