Ah, now we go to the personal attacks because I don't agree with you. Saw this coming. Seriously, the GOP is most guilty of the religious stuff, hence why I mentioned them with it. I do agree in that it goes for both, but I see the GOP mentioning it the most and trying to push it on everyone as well. They are also guilty of preventing others from getting the same rights with regards to marriage because it violates THEIR religious beliefs. No one said you can't have them or they can't be observes within the confines of your church or home. Yet, when it comes to the outside world and with those people trying to achieve the same rights that others receive. Tax breaks included. BTW, last I checked, the benefits are tax breaks for marriage. As for SS. Would not two people who are working both be putting money into SS and Medicare. So what is the issue with them being able to transfer to a spouse. With your views SS and Medicare should be withheld from them even if their are not married because it goes against your beliefs and you don't want your tax dollars going to support something like that.

Nice knowing the GOP. I will start making bets come mid terms with how many more seats are lost. Hoping for some Libertarians to take their places. We saw with this last election with who was selected how they don't know a true conservative.

Homosexuality, Race, Sexuality, Society as a whole, are seen through very different eyes then we're used to."

Yep,this vid pretty much hits the nail on the head as to why Obama won and how the Republican party needs to get their shit together.

BTW Cataract2, Please answer my question about what parts of the Constitution you want to ignore. It's not nice to ask for a response, only to ignore it. I was good enough to answer yours about when you said you wanted to ignore parts in my post at 08:26 pm. I'll repost it to make your life easier...

Where did I suggest anything about ignoring the Constitution?

quote:

Same goes for the other side keeping their mouths shut about how they're tax dollars are being spent on something against their belief.

Are you not saying that people should keep their mouths shut about how tax dollars are being spent on something against their religious beliefs? Putting it in context, you were referring to the GOP (other side from BO). We are discussing religious beliefs, right? Are you not saying that people should just shut up about first amendment rights being violated?

I do believe I answered your question in regards to tax dollars and religion. I never stated anything about ignoring the Constitution. You are attempting to bait me with that and trying to start the good old Round Robin with this.

With regards to taxes and religion. I've already stated. What you are suggesting could be applied to a lot more than marriage. I think we both know that would work and as such religion can stay out of the tax system and I don't see where your religious rights are being violated under the Constitution. You are attempting to interpret the Constitution in a way it was not meant to be interpreted.

Then please explain what you meant when you said, Same goes for the other side keeping their mouths shut about how they're tax dollars are being spent on something against their belief. It sure sounds like you think they should shut up about having their rights ignored. What have I missed?

You are attempting to interpret the Constitution in a way it was not meant to be interpreted.

Not at all. I'm using the exact same interpretation that is used when people complain about manger displays at Christmas. Why are you ignoring this? Should I copy that question for you again? Will you simply ignore it again?

Wasn't going for a dire insult, actually teasing Sifo, good naturedly.

I can't figure out what you guys are arguing about at this point.

Yes, the culture has changed... always does. ( like climate, and inflation... )

The basic gist seems to be that the "libertarians" want to un-uptight the Republican Party from certain moral positions... Some for idealistic reasons, ( my advocating alternative marriage ) some for real-politic "wanna win the election" reasons. ( half the righties on talk radio... and me )

I'm aware of the simple fact that the lefties also want the R's to "go left" so that the "middle" seems closer to them.

In this election, the D's convinced enough people that the R's were too embedded in medieval attitudes and wanted to haul us back to the 50's.

Which is really the conservative idea, right? The question is what part of the good old days is worth preserving.

I'm for limited government interference in our lives. Some are for other cultural goals, and the D's told everyone we wanted the most repressive aspects of bad 50's movies.

Yep, the R's are the Town Elders that Won't Let You Dance.

One point most of us agree on is the near total bias in both what is reported and the slant and emotional content of the reportage.

It takes a very juicy story to tempt the talking heads into true investigation of their favored ones. Lucky for us the dream of every journalism major is to be Woodward & Bernstein and bring down the power, man!

quote:

Roderick, I really do not think any of that is new. In order to win elections, you promise everything to everyone. It's been that way for years. The Republican presidential candidates in recent years have not done a good job of delivering those messages. It's hard to win an election when you alienate any one voter group. The Republicans have, in one way or another, alienated the lower class, women and latinos.

Promising something for every interest group is not new and that was not the point of my rant.

However, grossly over promise, not deliver, and got away with it -- is new.

Take the promise about the national debt. It is not that someone forgot to 'carry the two' somewhere in the math. The truth is so evident that it required willful disregard from the self about the failure to deliver in order to cast the same vote. The Obama political machine could not even spin it away. But instead they were impressively successful at convincing many 'selves' that the failure to deliver was because of someone else's fault. Not their man. It was so good that truly Obama did nothing to alleviate the burden of the national debt and it was still believed by the Obama masses that he attempted to do 'something' but only the Republicans blocked his attempt. The Obama political machine could not spin the numbers, so they spun the opposition.

quote:

However, the other party of me says this is only fleeting because once there is not a black man on the democratic ticket the Black vote will go back to not caring and not voting. If that happens, things should level out.

This would actually be a moral condemnation upon the black community for it was one of their leaders who once wished for and advocated character over skin color. If there is a black candidate or incumbent -- be activist. If not -- not.

Still, conservatives should take note that despite all the technical whiz-bang the Obama political machine wielded, Obama eked out slightly over half of the American people. Am certain wiser and cooler heads inside the Obama camp were not celebrating Tues night. Am certain that some of them were the Rove and Morris counterparts who projected lopsided popular votes but were shocked to find that despite the character assassination of Romney, their man won by less than %3.

"I’m committed to solving our fiscal challenges," he said. "But I refuse to accept any approach that isn’t balanced. I am not going to ask students and seniors and middle-class families to pay down the entire deficit while people like me, making over $250,000, aren’t asked to pay a dime more in taxes. I'm not going to do that."

read that closely..... He will indeed require the above 250,000 to pay additional taxes... and then true to his word - he will ask (require) the middle class (proletariat) to pay more.

You know, for the good of the nation.

FBI probe of Petraeus' emails purportedly led to discovery of extramarital affair

hmm.... Perhaps Petraeus wasn't on board with him falling on the sword next?

The move comes amid the unfolding controversy surrounding the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya. Scrutiny has fallen on a range of agencies including the CIA, and the director had been set to testify at hearings next week -- he is no longer expected to do so.

Priorities, Obama has them!

“TSA employees will see their uniform allowances nearly double to $446 per year,” the House Transportation Committee noted in a press release on the TSA’s new collective bargaining agreement. “By comparison, a combat Marine Lieutenant receives a one-time uniform allowance of $400. The cost of the increase in TSA uniform allowance is an estimated $9.63 million annually.”

Top US Companies Plan Layoffs

Friday, 09 Nov 2012 04:00 PM
by Bill Hoffman

The firms include:
Welch Allyn — a manufacturer of medical diagnostic equipment in central New York — which says it will cut 275 employees, about 10 percent of its workforce, over the next three years.
Dana Holding Corp. — a global auto parts manufacturing company — which warned of layoffs due "$24 million over the next six years in additional U.S. healthcare expenses.’’
Stryker — a medical device manufacturer — which plans to close its facility in Orchard Park, N.Y., eliminating 96 jobs in December. They also say they’ll slash 5 percent of their global workforce, about 1,170 positions.
Boston Scientific — a medical device manufacturer — said it plans to cut between 1,200 and 1,400 jobs, while shifting investments and workers overseas to China.
Medtronic — a medical device maker — which cut 500 positions over the summer, with 500 more set to be eliminated by the end of 2013.
Other companies promising job cuts include: Smith & Nephew — 770 layoffs; Abbott Labs — 700 layoffs; Covidien — 595 layoffs; Kinetic Concepts — 427 layoffs; St. Jude Medical — 300 layoffs; and Hill Rom — 200 layoffs.

Among the reasons for the layoffs: increased costs for health insurance and, in the case of medical manufacturing companies, a new medical-device tax.

But wait... there's more:

• Energizer -
The St. Louis-based company said Thursday that it expects to shed about 1,500 employees. When finished, the restructuring should lead to $200 million in pretax yearly savings, Energizer said. It aims to have most of its restructuring steps finished by the end of September 2014.
• Exide Technologies -
Exide Technologies announced Thursday that it will be idling its lead-recycling operations in Laureldale and laying off 150 workers, effective no later than March 31.
• Westinghouse -
Westinghouse Anniston, the contractor responsible for shutting down Anniston’s chemical weapons incinerator, has reduced its workforce by another 50 employees.
• Research in Motion Limited -
Research in Motion Ltd., the maker of BlackBerry smartphones, laid off about 200 people at its U.S. headquarters in Irving on Wednesday, according to a source close to the company who did not want to be named.
• Lightyear Network Solutions -
More than one dozen employees at a Pikeville company lost their jobs this week. Officials with Lightyear Network Solutions said they are consolidating offices in Louisville and Pikeville to save money.
• Providence Journal -
The Providence Journal Co. laid off 23 full-time workers Wednesday as part of a cost-cutting effort, including 16 members of the Providence Newspaper Guild and 7 non-union employees.
• Hawker Beechcraft -
The company says 240 employees will lose their jobs with the closing of Hawker Beechcraft Services facilities in Little Rock, Ark.; Mesa, Ariz.; and San Antonio, Texas.
• Boeing (30% of their management staff) -
Boeing Co. said Wednesday it plans to employ 30% fewer executives at its Boeing Defense, Space & Security unit by the end of 2012 compared to 2010 levels.
• CVPH Medical Center -
CVPH Medical Center has handed pink slips to 17 employees. The layoffs — nine in management and eight hourly staffers — are part of an effort to “help bolster the hospital’s financial position in 2013 and beyond,” a press release said.
• US Cellular -
The move will result in 980 job cuts at U.S. Cellular, with 640 in the Chicago area, according to a spokeswoman. The cuts are slightly under 12 percent of the approximately 8,400 total employees U.S. Cellular had at the end of the third quarter.
• Momentive Performance Materials -
About 150 workers at Sistersville’s Momentive Performance Materials plant will be temporarily laid off later this month, officials said this week.
• Rocketdyne -
About 100 employees at Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne, most of whom work in the San Fernando Valley, were laid off Wednesday in response to dwindling government spending on space exploration, the company said. The layoffs were effective immediately, and 75 percent of them came at the facilities on Canoga and De Soto avenues, which employ about 1,100 people. The company has six sites across the Valley.
• Brake Parts -
The leader of an automotive parts plant in Lincoln County has told state officials that there are plans to lay off 75 workers starting in late December…The layoffs are expected to start Dec. 28 and continue in the first quarter of 2013
• Vestas Wind Systems -
Vestas Wind Systems A/S (VWS) is seeking to sell a stake of as much as 20 percent and said it’s reducing headcount by 3,000 to raise the staff cuts by the biggest wind turbine maker to almost a third over two years.
• Husqvarna -
Husqvarna AB (HUSQB), the world’s biggest maker of powered garden tools, plans to cut about 600 jobs in a move that will save 220 million kronor ($33 million) a year by 2014.
• Center for Hospice New York -
The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care plans to temporarily lay off as many as 40 employees next year as it embarks on a major renovation of the inpatient unit at its Cheektowaga campus.
• Bristol-Meyers -
Bristol-Myers Squibb is following up its lackluster third-quarter results with almost 480 layoffs. As Pharmalot reports, the company notified the New Jersey government that it would scale back in Plainsboro, which means the cuts will hit its sales operations.
• OCE North America -
Trumbull printer- and scanning-equipment provider Oce North America, Inc. will lay off 135 workers in three Connecticut communities, including East Hartford, according to its notice with the state Labor Department.
• Darden Restaurants -
The company, which was among those who had received an Obamacare waiver in the past, is looking to limit workers to 28 hours per week. A full time employee that is required to have health insurance (lest the employer pay a fine) works 30 hours per week, as defined by the Obamacare law.
• West Ridge Mine -
In its statement, UtahAmerican Energy blames the Obama administration for instituting policies that will close down “204 American coal-fired power plants by 2014″ and for drastically reducing the market for coal.
• United Blood Services Gulf -
United Blood Services Gulf South region, the non-profit blood service provider for much of south Louisiana and Mississippi, will lay off approximately 10 percent of its workforce. It was a hard decision to make according to Susan Begnaud, Regional Center Director for the Gulf South region.
A layoff is tough enough for employees to deal with, imagine hearing the crushing news that your office is shutting down just before Thanksgiving and Christmas… Here are some of the business closings that were announced in just the past two days:
Caterpillar Inc. will close its plant in Owatonna Minn.
Mount Pleasant’s Albrecht Sentry Foods
The Target store at Manassas Mall Va.
Millennium Academy in Wake Forest NC
Target Closing Kissimmee FL Location
The Andover Gift Shop in Andover MA
Grand Union Family Markets Closing Storrs Location CT

I have a couple of questions, and I'm certain MSNBC won't report on the answers.... So I'll ask here. Someone might know.

1. Is The Obama Campaign over? It's been in continuous operation for 6+ years, was never shut down during the first term.

2. Is Obama still collecting campaign donations?

3. If Not, How can I finance my Green Energy Company? What is the current mechanism for me to "donate" to Obama to get your guys tax money?

This is important. A couple of Billion dollars has gone through that organization in the last few years, some of it legit! Without it, how can we influence the President?

Well here's the answer in action about the 30 hours per week question. Papa John's says that they will be cutting workers hours.

http://www.wptv.com/dpp/news/state/john-schnatter- papa-johns-ceo-obamacare-likely-to-raise-costs-emp loyees-hours-being-cut

quote:

Under the Affordable Care Act, full-time employees — those working 30 hours or more per week — would have to be provided with insurance at companies with more than 50 workers. Schnatter said it was likely that some franchise owners would reduce employees' hours in order to avoid having to cover them.

So how does this article about a small minority of Papa Jones FRANCHISE owners (independent business owners) that MAY have their hours decreased to 30 hours translate to a mandate that ObamaCare reduces all workers to 30 hours a week?

What a weak argument.

....translate to a mandate that ObamaCare reduces all workers to 30 hours a week?

Who says that?

The 29 hour week is going to be the new normal. Because of Obamacare.

It's happening, big time, across the entire retail and service scene.

Not because Obamacare says it must, but because that's the way the law is written. The loophole is cheaper than compliance. Just like the illegal immigration issue, it's the result of bad laws, not what the laws tell you to do.

Hell, handbasket.
As a result, there WILL be a hiring wave, to fill the time left by cutting all those full time people down to fit the loophole. But the number of people with full time decent jobs goes down. Pay attention to the underemployed and the not counted as unemployed anymore numbers. (U6)

30 hours/wk is the threshold for eligibility for group benefits.

Drop your work force down to 30 hours or less and you don't have to provide group medical for them.

The principle of unintended consequences.

or you do what Microsoft has done for years.
Perma-temp. Hire temp employees, as they are not full time employees of Microsoft - there are no corporate benefits, no health care costs, no stock dividends, no financial perks

They have done it for nearly 30 years.
The burden then falls back to the staffing company - and very few of them ever offer benefits.

6,125 Proposed Regulations and Notifications Posted in Last 90 Days--Average 68 per Day

68 per day! How can any business keep up with that? Even assuming that 99% of it doesn't pertain to your business, you would still have numerous changes every month that you are expected to comply with.

quote:

“I've ordered a government-wide review, and if there are rules on the books that are needlessly stifling job creation and economic growth, we will fix them,” the president said.

Right! Meanwhile new rules are piled on by the truck load. Chances are your business won't even know it's not in compliance until they get the fine.
