Come this spring i was thinking of taking a mini-vacation to Montana. Since I was in my early 20's I have wanted to go out there if not move there. I know what the websites and travel agencies tell me what is out there. But what I am really looking for is any input from actual people not trying to sell me a tour package.

Buell On.
Steve

Visit Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks.

If flying, fly into Kalispell, MT and spend at least 3 night in Glacier NP. Stay in the hotels in Glacier, they are great historic hotels. Then spend 1 or 2 days driving down to Yellowstone. Plan on spending at least 1 week there. Yellowstone is a VERY large park. It takes about 1 day just to driver the main figure "8" roads. You really need to stay in the hotels there too.

I agree - visit one of the parks. You said "mini", but there is nothing mini about Montana. We went in 09 for 10 days. Flew into Missoula and rented an Ultra Glide. Used a cabin in Whitefish as a "home base" So much to see. The Road to The Sun us usually open by July 4th. It had been open for 3 days prior to my visit, which was over the Holiday.
There is not a day goes by I don't day dream about that trip. This is just about to Logan Pass
Almost to Logan Pass

Trout Creek Montana !
where I learned to ride off road. Large expanses of it are still unpaved.
the town itself is a hiccup, but the surrounding desolate wilderness is amazing.
(well was, I havent been back in 5 years)
