I’ve been asked to interview for a gig in Tulsa Oklahoma. Since anyplace has to be better than Yuma, I’d like to know if anyone has anything they’d like to share about the area, good or bad. All I know is: The cost of living is fairly low. It appears to be about 8% lower than Yuma. Overall culture is pretty conservative. It gets cold there but not horrible. Remember I’m from Florida so a little cold goes a long way. Stay away from the north side of the city. That’s the worse crime/gang area. Any other comments about livability? What about the climate, traffic, rental prices; that kind of stuff? What kind of fun things are there to do in Tulsa? Looking at the map it looks like some foothills to the east of the city. Might be some good riding area hidden up there. Thanks in advance for any information you can give me. | ||

I live in Norman, Ok which is about 1.5hrs from tulsa. Get used to flat flat land, straight roads, and hot weather in the summer and mild winters. Sell your buell and get a busa | ||

I'm from Florida and am now living in Yuma Arizona. I know about hot weather and flat land. How would you describe the quality of live overall? | ||

Traveled NW Arkansas and NE OK (and SE KS, SW MO) extensively. While Tulsa isn't on my radar for destinations to re-visit or live in, and I concede that work dictates a game change more so than almost anything else, it wasn't hell to be there. The nicest thing to keep in mind is that you have some VERY nice riding areas in the NW Arkansas area (Ozarks, et al) as well as some of the other areas in SW Missouri. All are within a reasonable ride of Tulsa. Some hellacious storms pass through the areas...worst tornado I've ever lived through was during a week I was in Ft. Smith, AR (on the border of AR/OK) and it wasn't even that significant. Keep this in mind when house shopping. Just my .02 You could do worse than Tulsa but I've learned that everyone's from somewhere and naming the "worse than" locations usually pi$$es someone off. I guess Centralia, PA probably qualifies as an indefensible armpit... | ||

I live in NW Arkansas and am about 2.5 hours from Tulsa.I have been to a lot worse places but also better ones.Pretty good economy,decent night life,not far from the Ozarks and there is a track about 1/2 hour west in Hallette that has several track days each year.The aquarium and zoo are cool and I like the I-Max there too.It also seems that even the ugly women have a nice ass  | ||

I had my second interview (Skype) today. It went very well. Looks like they want me to be a contractor for a couple of months before I join as a perm employee. I understand that. My research into the area seems to tell me that this is a place I might like. I'm a calm and conservative kinda guy. As long as I can ride my XT, and have a good museum or two to hang out in, and maybe a like or stream to fish in, I'm good. Anything beat Yuma. | ||

I've lived in Tulsa my whole life and the love riding the area. Beautiful land here and yes there are pretty nice curves out towards the NE of here. If youre a racist bigot and love carrying your gun youll fit right in. Otherwise just keep your head down. Pathetic people but wonderful land in Oklahoma. We're a red state but dirt poor AND we have one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the USA. | ||

Boliver, I have a carry permit but seldom carry anymore. I prefer to live in places where I don't feel threatened enough to carry. I'm surprised to hear about the teen pregnancy rate. I think of Tulsa as firmly in the Bible belt and a very conservative place. Imagine all those nice religious girls giving up the pick fuzzy so easily. Had my 2nd phone interview with the I.T. director and it went very well. I'll be happy to leave Yuma behind. The people are nice here but there is nothing to do and the summer here was deadly. More than once it was over 100 degrees at midnight. | ||

Tulsa is a great city. I grew up in Miami Oklahoma, which is up the turnpike, about 90 miles. Up in the north east corner of the state. A great motorcycle museum there on route 66 and don't forget to eat at the Ku Ku drive in. I moved to Tulsa with Safeway and worked there for about 5 years. You are on the edge of green country. Tulsa and east, you get into some beautiful hill country and then into Arkansas mountains. Good roads and riding. If you turned Oklahoma up on its bottom, it would flood Texas right off of the map. Oklahoma has some great lakes. Good museums. Great Culture. Indian nation, hard working farmers, hard working oil men, Hard working miners. You can be to Arkansas, Kansas, and Texas in just a few hours. Eureka Springs Arkansas, Branson, Fayetteville, and other locations around there, have great riding potential. Enjoy the rain, the thunderstorms, the tornados, the wind, the four seasons. It is all great. I am flying into Tulsa the last week in November to head to Miami and enjoy the holidays with family and friends. Lucky man.....I live in Phoenix, which is nice, but you cannot beat Oklahoma....  | ||

Great Photos, thanks! I was in Phoenix (Peoria) before I came to Yuma. I liked it there and would have stayed if the company had not been sold. Tulsa is sounding like a good place for me to land. The college is looking for someone to start at the beginning of next year. That timing is just about right for me too. |
