Why do you implore people to stop posting? If you don't like this, then don't read this. This election is TOO important to ignore. The fact that Mitt Romney is a vastly superior candidate than Obama needs to be shouted from the mountaintop. Every mountaintop. Every day. Even in the small burg called Badweb.

Reindog, this is an interesting read on the dynamics of who wins the presidency and "how much" they win, including the importance of the various senate races, focusing on how the vote goes in swing states Ohio and Wisconsin:

Hmmmm, isn't Broward County, Florida home of DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz??? This is gonna leave a mark:

quote:

Sun Sentinel Endorses Mitt Romney For President
Sun Sentinel Editorial Board, Oct 26, 2012

Brush away all the rhetoric, all the vitriol, all the divisiveness from the presidential campaign. To most Americans, only one thing matters — the economy.

Four years into Barack Obama’s presidency, economic growth is sputtering. Family incomes are down. Poverty is up. Business owners are reluctant to assume risk in the face of unending uncertainty. Many are holding on by their fingernails, desperate for signs of an economic recovery that will help them provide for themselves, their employees, their customers and their communities.

When President Obama came into office in 2009, the economy was in freefall and though untested, he inspired us with his promise of hope and change. Now, four years later, we have little reason to believe he can turn things around.

So while we endorsed Obama in 2008, we recommend voters choose Republican Mitt Romney on Nov. 6. [emphasis mine - FB]

...President Obama is a decent man who took office with the nation facing an economic precipice. But even he predicted he would be a one-term president if he failed to turn things around.

We believe the best chance to get America back working again is to elect Mitt Romney. That’s why we endorse him for president.

Gallup: Romney Up 51%-46%
Ben Shapiro, Oct 26, 2012

According to today’s Gallup tracking poll, Mitt Romney’s lead over incumbent President Barack Obama has stretched to a five point margin. Romney is now up among likely voters 51% to 46%. Yesterday, the tracking poll had Romney up by only three points, 50% to 47%.

The lead is broadening.

That’s no doubt due to President Obama’s insistence on going small with his campaign. From Big Bird to binders to bayonets to ads suggesting that voting for Obama is like losing your virginity, this campaign has minimized the issues the American people face. And it’s paying the price for it.

The trends are clearly against Barack Obama. It has been three weeks – the October 9, 2012, tracking poll – since Barack Obama was even tied with Romney. And after the final presidential debate, which liberals widely believed Barack Obama won, the polls have not shifted an inch overall.

Hah, I forgot to check all the backlash after I said Romney was just as bad as Obama.

Voting "for the guy who can win" is just a cheap cop-out. Everyone makes that excuse, and that's the very reason that nobody from a third party ever wins.

We need to abolish the party system anyway. Too many sheep supporting Romney just because he's Republican.

But by all means, vote for the guy who's just as bad as Obama. He's full of shit (well, just like any other politician I guess). He supports the NDAA. He strongly supported the patriot act. I don't see him as any better than Obama.

I must have missed "all the backlash"...

Jon, this is a two-part post, in your honor. Part A is just for you, though - all the rest of y'all gotta go directly to Part B. OK?

Part A: Jon, you nailed me a little bit the other night. Yep, I get too "high and mighty" sometimes. Sometimes it's simply humor-gone-bad, but sometimes it's more like an extra helping of snark.

I just turned 59; you'd think I would have grown out of that by now.

I'll try to do better. I'm still gonna keep posting on the R&R and 0&B threads, onnaconna it makes me feel like I'm actually doing something constructive for our country, but I'll try to be less of the occasional ass about it.

I'll try.

Hope you have a great weekend.

Part B: Jon, this part is a LOT directed your way, too, but all the rest of y'all feel free to share the love.

I do a pretty good job steering clear of "religious" threads here on BWB. I'm not against such threads - it's all good, IMO - it's just I don't feel I have anything to contribute, so I choose not to play.

Well, here's my first - and probably only - foray into "religion" here on the board, and it has to do with Mitt Romney.

This is a first-hand account of something very cool that happened backstage at the giant R&R rally in Colorado the other night. I found it to be a pretty powerful read, and I'm hardly what you'd consider to be a particularly pious guy.

Hmmmm, maybe I should do something about that......

In the meantime: Open up your heart, put aside for a moment any religious biases you may have, and share in one person's very personal, profound glimpse of the man who MIGHT just be our next president:

quote:

WHITE HOUSE INSIDER: Mitt Romney’s Quiet Prayer Amidst The Sound Of Thunder
By Ulsterman on October 25, 2012

A remarkable story from a longtime D.C. political operative of just how personally moved Mitt Romney was following a campaign stop in Red Rocks Colorado where over 10,000 enthusiastic supporters greeted the man they hope will be the next President of the United States.

quote:

As the governor was en route to the amphitheatre they were told the crowd was showing “strong numbers”. What greeted him was a lot more than just “strong numbers” though. It was a massive wave of thousands and thousands of supporters. Before going on the governor apparently peeked out a few times and was shaking his head in disbelief at just how many people were there to see him. He was told by organizers up to a thousand more were turned away because there simply wasn’t any room left. People said you could feel the size of the crowd under your feet backstage. Somebody had passed out a ton of “thundersticks” and the people were banging them together and making this amazing rumbling noise. There were some real veteran campaigners backstage and I’m told they were all blown away by this crowd in Colorado. It really was like some big time rock show. Just a huge response for the governor.

So Governor Romney goes onstage and gives his speech. The crowd just totally embraces him. From beginning to end. Every word. They are fired up. Loud. Positive. Cheering. Just an amazing moment for the campaign. Everybody backstage were all smiles and peeking out at all those people and shaking their heads. This is the kind of moment in a campaign you never forget. Ever. Nobody who hasn’t experienced it can really understand this feeling. You’re looking at a candidate being transformed right in front of your eyes into the next Leader of the Free World. They go from being human into something just a bit more. It’s all those people. That energy. It kind of fills the candidate up and makes them bigger than life. And you are watching it happen in real time. Right then.

The governor returns backstage and he is smiling and shaking hands, taking congratulations from everybody around him. He’s saying how great it was. Somebody yells out he’s going to win Colorado and the governor laughs and says he thinks so too. And then something very interesting happens. He moves away from the group of people just a bit. Maybe ten or fifteen feet or so. Just enough to have a little space to himself. And enough people notice that the area gets a lot more quiet, and they are trying to watch the governor without looking like they are watching the governor. They can all kind of tell something is happening right then. It was described as something very peaceful and powerful that came over that backstage area for a moment. And the governor, he lowers his head and his eyes shut tight and you could see him take a slow deep breath and then he lets it out and says quietly, but just loud enough for some to hear, “Lord, if this is your will, please help to make me worthy. Please give me the strength Lord.” And then his eyes open up, and he’s back to smiling and laughing and shaking hands and being the candidate once again.

I’m 100% convinced Mitt Romney was shaken to his soul right then and there. I think at that moment it was sinking in he might really be the next American president, and it humbled him right to his core, in every nerve of his body. And as he was saying that little prayer, you could hear the sound of thunder from all those thundersticks outside. Like this huge low rumble that just surrounded all of them at once. A quiet little prayer, and the sound of thunder.

The sound of God.

There aren't two parties because of the "system". There is nothing to "abolish".

I'm a conservative. Others are Progressives.

I vote for the candidate who best furthers conservative ideals. Johnson didn't lose because he wasn't Republican. He lost because no one wanted him as the Presidential candidate.

The same goes for Ron Paul.

The same goes for any candidate who didn't win the primary.

People have rejected Ron Paul. Twice.

Third party candidates will ONLY ever pull votes from one end of the political spectrum or the other. You are either in favor of a larger more intrusive government and are on one end of the political spectrum or you are for a smaller government and less government intrusion and are on the other end of the spectrum. A third party candidate is going to be on one end of the spectrum or the other. In 2000, the Green Party siphoned off just enough votes in Florida to provide George Bush the win.

In 1992, Ross Perot did the same to George H.W. Bush.

If you want a third party candidate, win locally, during the primary, in enough states to obtain the candidacy. Once the primary is over, a winner has been chosen.

Between the two candidates, which is MOST LIKE Johnson, Obama or Romney?

This is AWESOME!!

quote:

The [Des Moines, Iowa] Register Endorsement: Mitt Romney Offers a Fresh Economic Vision
6:57 PM, Oct 27, 2012

Ten months ago this newspaper endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for the Republican nomination for president. An overarching consideration was which of the party’s candidates could we see occupying the White House, and there was no question that Romney was qualified for the job.

Now, in the closing days of the general election campaign, the question is which of the two contenders deserves to be the next president of the United States.

...American voters are deeply divided about this race. The Register’s editorial board, as it should, had a vigorous debate over this endorsement. Our discussion repeatedly circled back to the nation’s single most important challenge: pulling the economy out of the doldrums, getting more Americans back in the workforce in meaningful jobs with promising futures, and getting the federal government on a track to balance the budget in a bipartisan manner that the country demands.

Which candidate could forge the compromises in Congress to achieve these goals? When the question is framed in those terms, Mitt Romney emerges the stronger candidate.

...Barack Obama rocketed to the presidency from relative obscurity with a theme of hope and change. A different reality has marked his presidency. His record on the economy the past four years does not suggest he would lead in the direction the nation must go in the next four years.

Voters should give Mitt Romney a chance to correct the nation’s fiscal course and to implode the partisan gridlock that has shackled Washington and the rest of America — with the understanding that he would face the same assessment in four years if he does not succeed.

In fact, the Des Moines Register has endorsed every democratic presidential candidate since 1972.

Well I said this early on in some of our political discussions, before Romney got the nod on the Republican party's nomination.

It was sounding very much like the Winter Olympics here in Salt Lake was about to completely implode. They were in a huge tailspin with numerous scandals of both political and financial nature. The announcement was made that they "hired" Mitt Romney to head things up and try and straighten the course. I thought he was just some businessman with roots in the local religion. I was pretty skeptical. He made it happen. His leadership and work ethic took a failing Olympics and made it successful, we really need those skills at the helm to steer this country out of the economic disaster we are in.

I'm impressed with Ryan as well.

I think they can do it, and they will get my vote.
