Hey folks, we're getting news here that Hurricane Sandy is going to be a real big one and news of evacuations etc. Sometimes it's a little hard to filter through the hype of the news, so we hope it turns out to not be as bad as they're saying. For all you folks on the east coast our thoughts are with you. Keep safe. Chili & V |

Not so much the wind that's going to be the problem. It's a confluence of an inland storm merging with the hurricane to produce large amounts of rain. This coupled with a full moon tide, and a 10 foot storm surge is going to put a lot of coastal areas - including parts of NYC- under water. I am on higher ground well north of the city, but I only expect to have power for another 10 hrs or so. The strong gusts, and rain on the already saturated ground (october has been wet) are going to bring down many trees and cut power lines All of you out there stay dry and safe. |

Columbus, Ohio. about 550 miles from NYC. We are expecting 50 to 60 mile per hour wind gusts today. Just to give you and idea how big the storm is. All cars and generator are full of gas plus a extra 35 gallons on hand. Keep your head down east coasters! and on a side note... anyone heard from Court lately? |

https://www.dropcam.com/p/xsIXNn 79th street boat basin, NYC never mind now, the webcam was lashed to the bow of a boat in the boat basin, but the swells were getting quite large and it looks like the connection has been lost. (Message edited by essmjay on October 29, 2012) |

THe Massachusetts industrial machine will keep on turning today.Gun manufacturers still need their parts. I'm less than 200 yards from Narragansett bay and the tide is going out and down.It was over the beach road at hi tide earlier this morning. We in Rhode Island will be spared. |

I hope all of you who'll be affected are stocked up and battened down. Having seen the aftermath of 3 or 4 storms down here in SC, all I can say is DON'T do anything dumb AFTER the hurricane. Seems like more people get maimed and/or killed cleaning up afterward than get hurt by the storms themselves. If you haven't been running a chainsaw all your life think twice before going out, buying one, and trying to fell that broken up 3 foot thick oak in your front yard. |

I've been pretty concerned as well. Court, what's your take? Here in E. TN, it's been gray and drizzly for the past 2 days, not looking clear for us until next weekend. News says that this thing is 1,000 miles wide! W. NC and the higher elevations of E. TN are getting snow, they've already closed TN441 from Gatlinburg to Cherokee... Things sound pretty grim for the Northeast US- given the ginormous, truly historic mess we're about to see, I wonder if the elections might be postponed. (And no, PLEASE no, that WASN'T a shot at turning this thread political.) I dearly hope all the folks in the path of this storm fare well, and bind together to recover once it's gone. Personally, I've been using an Amazon vendor to get my teststrips, and AFAIK they're based in NY- I put in an order today, hope it can get out before the shiznit hits the fan... Folks, if you're there or know someone who is, please keep us posted. |

Windy with high seas out here on the tip of Long Island. Not much rain. We are going to get mostly more of the above, apparently. I'm going to go scout down in town and along the beach - or what little there will be of it. If we don't get too much rain, then maybe the tree roots will hold ok, and won't topple too many power lines. |

Court is gonna be a litle busy over today and for the next few. Just hope he stays safe out in this one. Here in Milwuakee, 800 miles away they are talking 15 foot waves hitting our breakwater and 33 feet out on the lake. This looks like the real deal. Stay safe |

Ocean City, Maryland here. Two feet of water in crawl space under house. Water pump for well is toast. Water in my sons car, was able to move it to higher ground about a 1/2 mile away. My truck is in danger of getting waterlogged. Am dealing with tidal flooding from the bay,I am on the mainland in West O.C.. Worst flooding in the 20 plus years I have lived here. Water in garage will probably go to two feet or better. Bikes and trailer relocated two days ago and hope they will be okay. Hoping next tide will stay out of the house. Wish me luck, and I hope all of you will fair well. SteveH |

Western Maryland here, in the mountains. First, Court is alive and well. I heard from him earlier today. Weather here is...moist. Blowing like hell. I had to put rain gear on to get buckets out of the garage (30' from the house), and I STILL got wet. We're supposed to get 10" of rain in the next 36 hours or something - and an inch of rain is the same amount of precip as a foot of snow. Thankfully I got the sod in place, and a new drainage ditch laid in (nothing like 1,000 lbs of sakrete on a Sunday) just in time, and it all seems to be holding up. Flood warnings all over. Rivers and streams were nearing their banks when I left work at 12. I got home and stayed. I did not shop this weekend, so there's not much food in the fridge if I lose power. Well-built stone house seems to be holding up well - couple leaks around basement windows on the windward side, but I installed (half-assed, it's raining a bit) some window-well covers to try and help with that. They're forecasting Armageddon, and if it's this rough, this early, in the freakin' MOUNTAINS...I feel for our coastal friends. Be safe, and stay off the roads. |

Stephen, Joe... God bless and look after you and yours. I don't have many friends- when my dad passed he told me I'd count them one day on one hand... I'm still counting. If any friend of mine needs a hand, I've got one and two. Holla. |

For those who don't know, the BadWeB server is in New Jersey. Ironically we were put offline by hurricane. Says admin has us back online via slower connection for now. |

Glad to see BW is back. Still praying for those on the east coast. The news doesn't make it look good at all. |
