I'm in the market for a new lens. What I want is a 70-200 f2.8 usm from Canon. Doing some searches trying to find the best deals. Maybe some of you guys know some hot spots to buy from ??

+1 on B&H, adorama etc.

If you can afford it, the IS version is sweet!

What body are you putting this on?

Barker I looked at both B&H and Adorama. They are both more expensive then BEST BUY of all places. I've done the research and alot of people say if your doing Sports and Motorsports the IS isn't needed. It really comes in when your shooting Handheld and I will be using a Monopod. Oh I'm using a 60D gripped. Whats your thoughts on what I've been told and read?? Its saving a grand. I also looked at the SIGMA 70-200 with IS but it seems to come up a bit short?

Why do you say the Sigma is coming up short? Some sigmas are not quite as nice as canon, but they are worth the cheap price point.

Maybe a Tamron? Some say it focuses slower, but it is CHEAPER!

True. IS might not be a magic bullet off of sticks. But it might help with whip pans as you track speeding subjects.

If you don't need it now I would wait till the rebates roll back around. Canon does rebates/discounts about every 4-6 months on most of their glass.

Used might be a good option as well.

Not on topic, however I trust the info you guys give.
A young lady I know wants a good camera that wont break the bank. I think mostly for pics of the little heads.

Thanks in advance, Mark

I know what your saying but every review and test I've read or listened to The Canon just does better in area's. The Sigma is a 1200 dollar unit as well is the Canon non IS.The Canon just the construction alone is better. I'm not after it till closer next month so I'll look for the rebates as you said...... that would help. I thought used but it kinda freaks me out when it comes to this stuff. Thanks Barker for the insight though much appreciated.

Great pix/video interchangeable lenes. Great fun for pro or a beginner.

Don't get me wrong the Canon 70-200 is a SWEET LENS and worth the $$$. I'm just pointing out some budget friendly alternatives.

Used glass can be a great option, if you know what you are buying.

I have had some good luck with craigslist and used glass.

Local deals, take you body with you, try it out, look at the pix on a lappy. Buy or move on.

Buy the IS version.Don't waste your money on a non-IS if your shooting sports.A monopod won't help much when your looking for the Pan shot but IS will.Sigma makes some great lenses but too close to Canons price to make them worthwile.Like Barker said, look local, try them out, shoot blue sky at multiple focal lengths and focus points and clean your imager first. If you ebay a lens make certain they have a return policy.Even SEARS occasionally has better prices then B&H though they(B&H)has a return policy.Grey market for lenses is OK,though I wouldn't buy a body that way unless I lived elsewhere....
Hey Barker...GREAT SHOT of Tahoe!I really liked your time exposure!
