There are a lot of good threads and I don't want to dilute the topics, but I am curious what 'natives' think of the area (waterbury-ish) and the riding.

Thanks!

Sent you a pm then realized I was thinking you meant Conn.No worries though I am quite sure Vermont will not be a boring motorcycle adventure. If your moving there hope to see you in the spring at the second annual ADK Rally

Riding is good, roads are iffy. Waterbury is central, with mountains either side, and easy access to just about anywhere in the state. It snowed uphill from me on Saturday night, so the season is getting short.

My ex's family had property up there. Gorgeous country, but definitely a short riding season. Roads are pretty frost-heaved, at least where their property was. Maybe other areas of the state are better...

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated as I may be moving out that way. Brumbear, did not get the pm, but I certainly will look into the ADK.

ADK was a fun time, next year should be a blast. What may be bringing you to Vermont?

James, the short answer is a job. I was 1 of 850 that were let go this summer in a corporate restructuring. I am in the final stages of the interview process and it looks like Waterbury, VT will be my new home.

Brad, yes, definitely! I have enjoyed our rides and time spent at the Buell Crisis Center.

The beauty of the BadWeb is that I got to meet some pretty cool people like Brad (as well as some other characters) in person upon my move to Minneapolis 5 years ago. I hope I have the same luck on my next move.

I've got a friend that works in warehousing and he seems to enjoy it. There was some sort of corporate malfeasance last year but it seems to have blown over and they are building a big new plant in Essex. If you move to Waterbury proper, its mostly small town living, 2-3 nice restaurants, 1 great brewery, but a lot of flood damage last year. As I said it is centrally located so there are housing options north in Chittenden county, which is as urban as Vermont gets, or south in the Montpelier area, which is a hip little town. East and west are ski country. I built a cottage in Waterbury a few years ago and the whole town smells like coffee. Let me know when you get boots on the ground.

Neil,
VERY glad to hear that the job situation is working out. I'm still reeling from some of the layoffs. Folks I'd worked with for 15-20 years in some cases.
The inside scoop is the number was more like 900-1000 after factoring in "retirements". A really big dent.

Now I will have an excuse to visit Vermont, I 've always wanted to..!

Brad

Oh, yeah.. Thanks much for the kind words, your making me blush : )
