7.8 That's a HUGE improvement.... how many are now underemployed... I haven't lost my job... but, I'm making about half of what I was a few years ago. We need to get this ball rolling again!

7.8 would be an improvement if it weren't for some suborn facts. The jobs added to the market don't account for the decline. It's a matter of unemployment benefits running out and they just are removed from the unemployment numbers. Those who are taking jobs are typically making far less than they did before. The working class is in dire straights.

Making half of what you used to doesn't sound too bad from my perspective. I can introduce you do literally dozens of people that I know who would like to be in that situation. They are working, but earning a small fraction of what they used to make.

"This country does not just succeed when just a few are doing well at the top," Obama said, according to a rush transcript of the remarks. "It succeeds when the middle class gets bigger. Our economy does not grow from the top-down, it grows from the middle-out. We do not believe that anybody is entitled to success in this country. But we do believe in opportunity. We believe in a country where hard work pays off and responsibilities are rewarded and everybody is getting a fair shot and everybody's doing their fair share. And everybody's paying by the same rules. That is the country believe in. That is what we have been fighting for the last four years. That is what we're going to put in place in the next four years if you reelect me as president of the United States of America."

"Entitlement" is what those who vote for Obama expect. Increases in monetary wealth as a result of time, effort and risk expended is called success. Why is the American dream only for SOME people, Mr. President? Is that REALLY "playing by the same rules"? I guess when you suck as bad as you did in a debate, the only option you have is to go back to is class warfare.

Any time he says Middle Class - substitute Proletariat.... then look to Lenin - you will find the same words.

Now, how well did the Proletariat actually do in the Soviet Union.....?
Those of you that lived through the cold war know the answer to that question.

Could the unemployment number just released be the "October surprise"? Going from 8.2 down to 7.8 is quite a change in a single month. Great new for all of us, right?

Not everyone is so convinced. Employment hiring was right in line with what economists forecast, and they were expecting unemployment to remain at 8.2. So how did it manage to drop 4 points? A lot of folks seem to be asking this question. It sure doesn't seem to be from the booming economy. Some have pointed out that there are some at the Bureau of Labor Statistics are also heavy donors to BO. There has been a government hiring spree recently. Not enough to account for this though, and I'm not sure that this is a good thing either. Government employees don't add to the GDP.

It sure is convenient for BO though. No doubt he will make the most of it for the next month. I'm betting there will be a big adjustment coming on this number. It would be nice to think that things are turning up, but other economic news just doesn't support this. Hard to say what happened until we see where we are next month. At any rate, 7.8 four years into the "recovery" is a terrible place to be. It is the "best" we have had under BO though, if it isn't adjusted back to the eights in a few weeks.

There will be many theories . . . .

Here's mine.

7.8% unemployment sucks.

It's an embarrassment after this long.

We are Americans.

We've never sought success by simply lowering out standards.

I want my country back.

When something costs $9.99, how much do we SaY it costs?

$10

IF 7.8% is the REAL number, it's still 8%.

If the taxmageddon is allowed to occur 1/1/2013, the unemployment number will go back up.

It's not that the figures are doctored by Obama donors. It's that a LOT of people no longer go to the State Employment office to look for work. ( you have to do so, at least in NY when you want Unemployment. )

So there is a causality here, end unemployment, you end going to the Employment office. A different office usually in a different building...

So it's not that more people got jobs this month than last month. That number went down.

It's not that less people lost their jobs this month. That number sucks too.

It's that more people no longer count.

Both in the statistics touted by the media, and in the view of this administration.

http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t15.htm

This is at least the third time I remember in the last 3 years that unemployment went up, and the number went down.

As my Father often says. "Figures don't lie, but liars figure like crazy"

There is also a poll number, but it's "spikey" and not a reliable indicator month to month, just over a longer period.

Note that the Percentage in U6 went down... but the numbers went up in real terms, if I'm reading all their crap right.

I could be wrong.

It's deliberately laid out so that the press can take just the one number ( U3 ) and run with it. For analysis, not so great.

Bottom line? The preezy didn't care that he looked clueless and inept the other night - HE'S still in charge regardless. The "smirk" that's been so widely talked about was his way of saying, "Blah, blah, blah. When we get done, I'm still the Pres, you're not, and my fans will STILL adore me. Plus, I know something you don't know....."

Sad, but true.

The job numbers that came out yesterday, of which there's only one person in America (the Obamaphone lady) who doesn't think (or care) the books were cooked, were a farce any way you slice it.

And yet.....the 0 Team claims their "plan" is FINALLY working.

Four more ears! Four more ears!

I see Biden taking one of two approaches next Wed night: He's famous for going large, so to speak, loud and in your face. If you can't dazzle them with facts and knowledge, at least frighten them into submission.

OR...................he could do the smirk, too. "Yeah, yeah Paul. Blah, blah blah. When we get done, I'm still the veep, you're not, and my fans STILL adore me. Plus, I know something you don't know....."

IMO - and this hardly seems possible yet I believe it's true - 0bama is now even MORE dangerous than he was prior to Wednesday's debate.

And we STILL don't know what the October Surprise is.

Pay attention, America.

And make sure you vote; you may never get another chance.

As Sam Clements said a century ago, figures never lie but liars figure.

There are too many assumptions in the calculation that can jog that number up or down.

Jack Welch ( Former GE CEO ) questions them
ans Mitt is Calling BS!

I will believe very little of what the Federal govt puts out as "facts" until the campaigner & thief are removed from office and his sycophants with him...

led me to this one..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedd ed&v=vp_G13eHQVI

From back in '09.

A few comments.

The dude in the cap is right. Obama, no matter his private beliefs, simply cannot push for the legalization and taxing of mary-j-wanna, since it's "just not done".

The late Chris Hitchens, who I greatly respect as an actual Journalist, ( while disagreeing with him on politics, for the most part.. He's a Communist atheist ) has the right idea.

Legalize drugs. tax them, apply the money to socialized medicine. "Free" health care.

The funny part is, it would work. A buddy of mine had his economics thesis rejected, because it analyzed the effects of legalizing pot. ( which, smart guy that he was, was his "fake" thesis, while he worked on the "real" one. That one was on NGO's and starvation... He got his degree.
They never caught onto the actual point, which was the NGO's cause the starvation to raise money to pay their executives. Smart, and smartass.)

He figured ( this was back during the Regan years ) that legalization and taxation would erase the US debt in 5 years. Not the deficit. The Debt. It would take longer today, of course, the debt is more than twice as big as when we beat the Soviets by telling the world we were going to build invisible bombers, and a missile shield to defend us against ICBM's. We didn't DO it, we just told them we were, and they fell.

Obama now insists he can't change gas prices. He's wrong. Just like Regan, he can just announce the "solution" and that would change the speculation prices. Just tell the planet we're going to "drill our way out" of the mess, and by 2015 we will no longer need foreign oil. The price would drop in half in a day. ( then we buy it all...)

http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-gas -price-record-20121006,0,3160717.story

You may not agree with the idea of legalizing a weed that grows wild, and makes people drive too slow, but the idea of funding the gov. with pot just makes ME giggle.

There are some problems with the scheme of funding HealthCare with drug sales.

The nature of socialized medicine means that people will want more care than the system can afford. They demand, today, sex change operations, plastic surgery, Breast & Buttock implants, all on the other guys dime. That's not going to change, no matter how you pay for the system, since some jerk politician will insist that things like co-pays are "unfair".

With no chance that the politicians will cut healthcare, they will need MORE money, always. If taxing Pot is the revenue stream, they will be buying commercials to encourage people to "Toke Up For America".

Just as they advertise food stamps today.

quote:

Supreme Court Shocks Life into Obamacare Challenge
Breitbart.com, Oct 7, 2012

The emperor wears no clothes. The bloom is off the rose. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. Pardon the barrage of stale metaphors, but it’s difficult to put into words the utter pasting Mitt Romney put on Barack Obama last week.

Pat Buchanan called Romney’s “the finest debate performance” in 52 years “with the possible exception of Ronald Reagan’s demolition of Jimmy Carter in 1980.”

Indeed, when all of CNN and MSNBC – to include Chris Matthews, Lawrence O’Donnell and Rachel Maddow – hysterically admit that President Obama got smoked; he got smoked. Bad.

Liberal blogger and Obama sycophant Andrew Sullivan captured the universally shared “progressive” panic as the brutal mismatch came to a close: “How is Obama’s closing statement so f—ing sad, confused and lame? He choked. He lost. He may even have lost the election tonight.”

For those of us who have long recognized the messianic myth that is Barack Hussein Obama, the debate was especially gratifying.

The world had fallen prey to a cartoonish hoax. This media-crafted Iron Man has proven a mere mortal, a tin man, an international embarrassment.

The jig is up.

...Long story short: If the Supreme Court ultimately hears the case on appeal – which is highly possible as the claims are unique – and rules that the employer mandate and Free Exercise claims are legit, Obamacare dies on the vine. It’s effectively overturned. It’s like a shiny new Chevy Volt without the exploding battery. It goes nowhere fast and is towed to the junkyard of really, really stupid ideas.

This means, among other things, that people who value human life won’t be made complicit in abortion homicide on the taxpayer dime.

“Obamacare is the biggest funding of abortion in American history,” said Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel and dean of Liberty University School of Law. “Under the Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate, Obamacare will, for the first time, require employers and individuals to directly fund abortion.

“This abortion mandate collides with religious freedom and the rights of conscience. I am very pleased with the Court’s decision today,” concluded Staver.
