Texting AND smoking AND on a 60 foot drop off while driving. I guess at least the driver wasn't also ... um... nevermind.

Driving?? The article makes it sound like she was on foot. Unless I missed something.

Sounds like she was on foot. Littering almost killed her. I hate that smokers think cigarettes should be disposed of on the ground anywhere.

Why was she screaming for help? She should have just texted her friend. Idiot woman, I agree with Skntpig, dispose of that crap properly. I hate when someone piles up their vehicle ashtray then decides it's a good idea to empty it out at a stop sign or parking lot.

I got to watch a good last night first hand.

going 'bout 70 down a divided six lane. I'm in the middle lane. Car passes me on the left(inner lane). Car following that one get even with me. Glanced up ahead at the first one. Drifts onto the shoulder, does not correct. Drifts off the blacktop into the gravel. The drop snatches the car into the cable barrier. Watched as the cables and stays just started ripping the front end off. Car released from the cables and crossed in front of me. I mean, I was standing on the brakes and waiting to get hit from behind. Car came to a rest in lane three, blocking it.

I got over and trotted back to check the driver and get the car off the road. Driver was on the floor fishing for the cell, two kids screaming in the back seat.

Claimed her knee grabbed the wheel. Watching it unfold, it was a pure distracted driver thing.

Wife, sitting next to me, was pleading don't wreck the jeep.

Them cable barriers really work. Watching that Charger get snagged and parts being shed, was incredible. The deceleration was very controlled and fast, not abrupt though. Oncoming traffic took hits from the debris though.

Two summers back, she would have crossed smack dab into the oncoming traffic. This barrier has been TESTED a lot since it was installed. I know of only one fatality in this stretch since being installed. It happened to be a rider. I wont describe the aftermath of that one. It was plain ugly.

A good friend's son died when he rode his motorycle into the cables. It was caused by one of those typical 'no reason' slowdowns on the open interstate. Granted the cyclist should have been paying closer attention.
