Hello everyone, I just picked up a cheap honda ch 150 for next to nothing and want to get it fixed up skelly style. I put new brakes and tires on it and got the carb cleaned out and now it runs like a champ. The next task is to really chop, cut and move stuff around. Im thinking what would Erik Buell do to increase the performance of such a machine(other than crush it and start from scratch) I am open for all ideas. I am kind of thinking XB9SX meets moped.  | ||

 Strip it. Plumb in a couple of little NOS tanks, buttons on each side of the bars. See if you can launch yeerself. ATTGATT! | ||

What does anyone have for lighting Ideas? I basically get to start from ground zero. That light mounted doesnt work. Id like to do some kind of LED. Id like to have pretty good light. I like the way the ruckus lights look. | ||

I once rode with Ft Bstrd down to TWO, for the first time down GA60, most of the way after dark- he had installed a HID setup in his Uly stock lenses... Didn't really enjoy the road, twisty as it was, until daylight, but his lights were the next best thing! SERIOUS candlepower! Better check the charging output before you do anything. I'm riding a '79 GL1000 now, notorious for stator failure if you add too much junk drawing current- my mechanic says it was designed with just enough strength to overcome the starter load... | ||

Oh, and get a Stebel horn- that stocker is gheyyy... Might stretch and slam it too! Don't forget the NOS- at least go get a can or 3 from your nearest convenience store, ziptie them on!  | ||

Honda service manual rates the stator at 203 watts at 5000 rpm. the current headlight is rated at 55/60 watts and the brake/tail is 27/8 turn signals at 23 each or 26 for the pair. there are some dash lights on this but small loads. If turn signals and tail light is replaced with LED I could I get a pretty serious headlight on it as in maybe 2 55 watt round bulbs? | ||

Im thinking that I might stray a bit from the skelly class since its turning into fall weather really quickly. If I could ride this thing into the fall and get 90 mpg i would gladly do so. I think the stator might even have enough output for some heated handgrips. So I got to thinking wind protection and this was my first draft. Tell me what you think could be better. Im thinking either some aluminum diamond plate painted black(possibly cost prohibitive) or some old aluminum plastic sandwich sign material I have in abundance for free. Tell me what you think.  | ||

Aluminum diamond plate would look badass on that! You could just keep going with the Mad Max thing on it until it got too heavy.  However, if it were me, I'd go for plastic, simply because of weight. I'd think that for something like that, weight is a huge deal. Lighter is better. You can still paint it black. Or, look at getting it sprayed with rhino liner. My XB9 has rhino liner coated plastics, and they're awesome - you don't worry a bit about scratching it. Just bang it around & have fun. | ||

weight is certainly an issue but I think Ive managed to lose a bunch of weight with those stock plastics. I dont have a total value but compared to my buddies stock elite 150 this is noticeably lighter. And with those michelin s1 scooter tires it handles like ice skates. I was at a stoplight near my house and 200 feet from the intersection is a very sharp left hand turn. I was the first at the light with a cruiser rider behind me. He thought he was really cool to just fly by me off the light and deafen me with his lack of muffler. I know It really wasnt a smart move but as he got on the brakes hard to creep around the turn I leaned this thing over and went inside of him. In that moment it was scooter FTW |
