We are at the point of turning a hand crank to spin something we hope will work as a propeller. We haven't worked out how to shape the propeller, or are close to building the (probably antimatter powered ) turbine to power it we need for warp drive.

Still that's a lot closer than we've been before. Think of this as DaVinci's Helicopter.

We are here.

davinci rotor

we need to get here

to get this.

I like how the "football-shaped" ship has stitches on it.
In the future, space vehicles will be constructed from pig skin and the crews will be stitched up inside for the journey.

Pic related?

I was interested to note that the ring will be " potentially made of exotic matter ".

What's that then? Hookers mini-skirts stitched together with pole-dancers thongs?

Anyway, All together now, lets go boldly, La laaa la la la la,

Mr. Grumpy: It said EXOTIC, not EROTIC. Sheesh.

I just know somebody in a lab somewhere is gonna flip a switch on one of these experiments and dinosaurs are gonna appear in my living room, the Earth will get sucked into a black hole, or who knows what...

The CERN is just up the road from me & one of my neighbours actually runs the black hole machine or "Large Hadron Collider" as it's officially known.

So I'll probably get sucked into the black hole before you.

What really amazed me about the warp drive wasn't that it was possible... like Blake, I always suspected there would be some way to get round it.

What is amazing is that it is feasible from an energy consumption standpoint. I assumed the power requirements would be "just short of infinite".

The fact that it's achieved with exotic matter just makes it all that much more like magic. Geesh. Where is my ring that will transport me to Narnia? Sign me up!

I thought you were transported to Narnia through a wardrobe closet? The Ring takes you to Mordor...

It started with rings. You have to read the whole story.

Goodness. What *do* they teach in school these days?
