Thanks for the info. All you Jeepers chime in here: would I be better off to paint the good ones on the car and only try to remove the bent one?

Thats what I would do...
Clean and prep them for paint.
You should be able to slide some paper behind the flare or tape them off and paint.
The only problem I ever had was gas overflow onto the flare under the gas cap.

If you want to color match the flares, go get the matching color in a spray can from Autozone/Advance. It's enamel and will be affected by the gas. For gas resistance, get a urethane clear coat from NAPA. It usually doesn't come in spray cans, but they should be able premix it and put it in a spray can for you. You should be able to urethane clear an enamel with no issues and it will be gas resistant. I've done it before with no issues.

Hey Mark, This is one of the wheels that will be on my Jeep after swapping tires and such around. These are 15" x 12". They will really sparkle when they get polished up.

The only draw back in my opinion, is that they are 12" wide. My tires are 12.5" wide. That kinda leaves them out there to get beat on the edges.....oh well.....a trade deal made them nearly free and they are so pretty they must go on!

Back to work on my tow rig.

FWIW, out running errands, saw an old Jeep Commando! Dang thing was in great condition, had a canvas top for the 2 front seats, totally al fresco for the rear, schweeet!

BUT- someone saw fit to paint it "Vol Orange"...

Yea. It sounds sick and is running a lot better. I'll post a video when I get back home. I'm in Vegas playing in the National amateur 9 ball tournament with my team. I'll be home next week.

Just got my brakes bled! Wow! Brakes, what a concept, I cannot wait to try them!

An 'X' brace and a couple more gussets should finish the welding.

I guess installing my power steering pump might be next. Then the parking brake.

It is coming along much better now.

Hey Mark- the GF and I have a good buddy who's invited us out to WV for Labor Day, heading to this place:

He's got an AWD Honda 4wheeler for us- camping junk and all will need to be inventoried and updated- but it looks like a good way to spend the long weekend!

Whatcha know about it?

I'm not a big fan of mud. I would rather crawl some rocks and hills.
You can never wash it all off/out of your HEEP!

I gotcha there- just wondering if you know anything about the place? I'll be more into running the trails at reasonable speeds, given the GF and all our kit will be on board too. I'll leave the wacky stuff for when I've dropped her off...

Mark, if you get to trail ride the parks here in East Tennessee you will probably change your mind. Your Heep and mine are not fit for real rock crawling. That is another $6K + !

Then you will find yourself saying "mud washes off, broken axles and gears cost big money, and rocks cause dents in everything!"

New tranny is... how shall we say... firm, stiff? positive feeling.... I don't know how to put it but it feels a LOT better.

The front drive shaft is driving me nuts! I have a case of angry sparrows again so its back to Drive Line One for a new cardan joint

Mud certainly wears stuff out fast, especially if you are keeping it as your main street vehicle.

If you were rock riding you would have to carry spare drive shafts and axles.....'cause rocks don't let you drive it home when something is getting noisy!

CRAWL is key! You can do a lot of different stuff if you keep you foot out of it.

Just got back from Drive Line One.... they fixed my drive shaft for FREE! WOOT!
But said I would have to pony up next time... bummer
I will be doing some test climbing after work FO SHO!

I was talking about crawling! It is the single most destructive thing you can do to a vehicle short of demolition derbies and roll over contests.

Have you ever heard a one ton differential shatter at less than two miles per hour? How about a drive shaft snapping like a twig while stepping your tires between some rocks? BTDT!

Look up some rock crawling events on U Tube.

I think you and I are better suited for extreme trail riding.

I guess I am a part of the wolfpack now. 2012 sport 6 speed power nothing and AC. Found the 5 star rims and tires from an 08 model on Craig list dirt cheap.

out surfin the interwebs and came across a Jeep Mute 6x6; not really understanding the advantage of the set up. seems that travel is limited, I just don't quite understand it for its advantages over a long wheelbase Scrambler or 'Unlimited'

Heres the link
