My wife and I are taking her parents to visit England and Ireland at the end of August. We'll be spending a week in England before heading over to Ireland.
I'm looking for ideas that will be of interest to a motorcyclist as I suspect we'll be doing a lot of standard touristy things.
I'm thinking motorcycle museums, interesting bike shops, biker pubs, etc.
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Which areas of England are you looking to visit?

London is of course great, but get out into the North West (lake district) and Yorkshire if you want to see some really nice country.

National motorcycle Museum:

It don't get no better than that!
You can spend two days there & not see it all.

South of England is best! (LOL)
London, East End. See the Olympic Park & the Thames Barrier + all the regular touristy stuff in Central London.
For countryside nearer to London try the Chilterns & the Cotswolds

Both the Ace Cafe and the National Motorcycle Museum are definitely on the list. Thanks for the suggestions.
We'll be spending 2 or 3 days in London and then travelling around for the balance of the week before heading over to Ireland.
My father in law is quite a history buff (as is my wife) so I'm sure it will be interesting no matter where we go.
I like the sound of the Lake District and Yorkshire... the Cotswolds have always fascinated me as well.
I'm thinking we won't have enough time...

Just down the road from the Motorcycle museum are both Warwick & Kenilworth castles. Warwick is a big touristy type castle with lots to look at including jousting on some weekends. Kenilworth castle was partially destroyed in our Civil War & is effectively a bunch of good looking ruins. Look them up. If the in-law likes history he'll enjoy both of these & they are pretty close to the museum.

Thanks Chris... I'm slowly building a case for the museum so every little bit helps.

Fish and chips are everywhere. If you are driving around, don't forget Stonehenge. Bunch of rocks in a field. Take a pic with yourselves in it.

Double decker bus tour in London. Keep the camera clicking.

Don't eat KFC there. The chicken tasted like fish when I had it.

Stonehenge is historic but very very boring..... If you want historic, visit Northumblerland (North East England). Holy Isle (Lindisfarne), more castles (complete not just ruins) and history than you can shake a big stick at. It is also just a short hop to Edinburgh and the Scottish borders from there.

If you're interested in recent military history, & aircraft, the Imperial war museum at Duxford is worth a visit.

The American Military Cemetery at Madingley, also near Cambridge, is always a moving experience too.

As Trojan said the North is superb, & a few days in Scotland will be well worth the detour while you're this side of the pond.
Don't forget to have some Haggis (if you can catch one!)

If you want to go to a historic London pub then the 'Old Cheshire Cheese' just off Fleet Street is great. Hasn't chanegd much since Chrales Dickens and Doctor Johnson drank there either ; ) Lots to see in the City of London too (The square mile, not the larger 'greater London'.

Talk in a lower voice than you are used to. Tourist stand out by how loud they are.

For the airshows look at either Duxford or Old Warden.
Both about an hour from London.

If you're going south to see Sammy Millers museum, go on a Tuesday & book a hotel in either Poole or Bournemouth.
This is why http://www.pooletourism.com/go.php?structureID=pag es&ref=N4D9C41C9B7A94
You'll not be sorry.

A just down the road is the Bovington Tank Museum. That's always a hoot for military enthusiasts!

Be sure to tell everyone you meet that the closing ceremony sucked and was worse than a Superbowl half-time show.

That's what I'd do.
