Aside from Mayor Mike's view on guns, he is still a republican at heart even though he is now an independent.

>>> First amendment means all these people have a right to speak their minds. SO whats the problem?

Huh? Who are "these people?" So, the business owner is punished by "these people" for giving his take on marriage. Has he no right to speak out for his values?

Sure, sure, some people are more equal than Christians and Christian business people. We get it. It's a free country, or used to be. In theory, everyone enjoys the same right, per our constitution. On the other hand, the idea that all people are equal, equally capable or equally treated, is a pipe dream. The anti-chicken restaurant protest is just another skirmish in the ongoing culture wars. It's meant to create divisiveness in society, them versus us & vice verse.

When I get to Chik-fil-A, I'll think of all the Christian bashing sexual minorities who want to have a kiss-in, and offer to let them kiss my butt if any are in attendance.

I could care less about the owners stake on gay marriage. I think free speech is important... BUT, think about the franchise owners who are located in primarily gay communities. These businesses will see a reduction in revenue down the road from his statement.

That is what bothers me, innocent franchise owners will feel the effects of the owners statement, whether they agree or do not agree.

I do love the new spicy deluxe chicken sandwich!! MMmm! But I sure as hell wouldn't wait in the line that shut down half the major road I was on today!

Me? No. But I am sure that is illegal anyway, regardless of what sexes are involved.

Reminds me of the BP oil spill, people stopped going to BP stations, despite the fact that the station franchises had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Yet WalMart isn't allowed in NYC either, but I am not aware if that has anything to do with Blomberg.

No need to think about it. Why? Not even the "gayest" of communities is primarily "gay".

Better question - are you ok taking your family out for a walk in the city part and come upon one man and one woman fut bucking on a park bench?

No, you wouldnt be cool with that either.
Or standard vaginal sex.
It is inappropriate regardless of the gender(s) and sexual preference.

And, as Froggy said, illegal.

I dont care how the CEO of ChicFilA feels. Or any celebrity. Or politician. Doesnt change my views.
I like CFA, they are delicious, eat there about once a month. Will continue to. You should support a place because of their product and service, not how they feel about homosexuals or something

I don't think there is any legal issues here as long as the business isnt actively discriminating against customers.
Has any mayor or other politician actually done anything to ban, fine, or close chic fil a returaunts? Or are they too just using their first amendment rights to give thier opinion?

What strikes me as ironic about the whole situation is that all my gay friends are spewing massive amounts of hate all over Facebook...

wait...

Did I just use "spewing" and "face" in the same sentence when referring to gays?

back on topic here, one of my friends since childhood who is what you might call "extremely gay" is spending a lot of time bashing Chick Fil-a, and then within minutes posting stuff about acceptance and tolerance.

The dichotomy here is staggering.

Restaurant owners should focus on selling food.

Period.

They're welcome to have their views, sure. Every person has their right to free thought, speech, and press. But when this meatball aligns his COMPANY with his PERSONAL beliefs, that's where the problems (and rallies, and kiss-ins) start.

If you have personal beliefs, keep them personal. That doesn't mean you can't promote them in public...just promote them as Joe Schmo The Individual, not "the company owner".

If you put your personal beliefs into your company's profile...expect fallout.

Well they are not against the gay folks working for them. There is a headline this morning where their gay employees are protesting.

A little off the gay topic, their stores being closed on Sunday to me is a good idea.

One of the things we have lost in this country is family values. When I was a kid Saturday shopping had to be done by noon. Everything was closed Sunday except for a couple of gas stations and a drug store.

This, I think was the basis for family outings and get togethers. Not necessarily because of the religious over tones of being closed on Sundays, but when most businesses determined it to be a profitable day, family 'being together days' got tossed under the buss for profit. Then that snowball got running, where with an extra day to spend spend spend, we have to work overtime to make that extra $, so the kids are left alone again. Then they hang out on street corners until they form gangs who steal or vandalize the nice "extra stuff" that we bought on Sunday with our over time pay from our evening and Saturday overtime work that kept us away from our kids in the first place.

Whoops! That was a bit of a spinning rant. Sorry.

But the restaurant was founded with these beliefs in mind. He's always had these beliefs, and he's always displayed them (closed Sundays, posters, etc). Just because intolerant crybabies want to make a stink out of it now, doesn't mean he's been doing it wrong all along.

And by the way, could someone please find a source quoting what was actually stated by this guy??? All I can find is a comment on family values.

How do you separate the individual from the business owner? I see no problem with his statement at all. If he were to be discriminatory in his business practices, then there would be an issue.

The various mayors who came out stating that Chick Fil A locations would not be allowed to open in their cities however is discriminatory. It is discrimination based solely on the religious beliefs of the person being discriminated against. That is religious persecution plain and simple. These mayors should be removed from office ASAP. They also are opening their cities up to huge lawsuits based on religious persecution. It doesn't even matter if the mayors take any actual action to prevent them from opening stores. The simple statements that they will do so demonstrates religious persecution.

The true story -- as opposed to what is currently being presented -- involved an interview of Cathy by Biblical Recorder editor K. Allan Blume. Blume asked Cathy about his support for traditional marriage. "Guilty as charged," Cathy answered. Further on in the interview, he explained what he meant. "We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that," he said. Blume also revealed that Cathy does not impose his beliefs on others. "We're a business that serves the public, all people are welcomed into Chick-fil-A, and frankly we do not feel called to weigh in on a lot of social activism that's taking place as it relates to the definition of the family, but we do definitely want to encourage strong families."

If you put your personal beliefs into your company's profile...expect fallout.

Should you expect elected politicians to deny you the right to do business here in America because you expressed Christian values?

quote:

One of the more blatant displays of progressive thuggery is playing itself out in Boston and Chicago. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino threatened to keep fast food franchise Chick-fil-A from opening any restaurants in that city because he doesn't want any business operating there "that discriminates against a population." In Chicago, Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno announced that he will pursue the same course in his district for the same reason. "If you are discriminating against a segment of the community, I don't want you in the 1st Ward," Moreno told the Chicago Tribune. Such "tolerance" is based on an effort to deliberately mischaracterize as anti-homosexual what Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy said about traditional marriage. That mischaracterization has been aided and abetted by a media more than willing to amplify the distortion.

..."Chick-fil-A doesn't belong in Boston," said Menino, who delivered a warning to the franchise. "If they need licenses in the city, it will be very difficult -- unless they open up their policies." Menino added an Orwellian outburst to his diatribe as well. "We're an open city. We're a city that's at the forefront of inclusion. That's the Freedom Trail. That's where it all started right here. And we're not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail." Thus, the "forefront of inclusion" is off-limits to those who don't align themselves with the reigning government's position.

Chicago alderman Moreno echoed Menino's faux self-righteousness, as well as his jackboot aspirations. In an op-ed piece presented to the Tribune by one of his aides, Moreno referred to Cathy's statements as "bigoted, homophobic comments." Then came the hammer. "Because of this man's ignorance, I will now be denying Chick-fil-A's permit to open a restaurant in the 1st Ward."

Leftist Mayor Rahm Emanuel supported Moreno's distortions and ambitions. "Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values," the mayor said in a statement. Emanuel's most recent discussion of Chicago values prior to this one was to tell the city's street thugs, who have driven Chicago's murder rate up 30 percent over last year, to "Take your stuff away to the alley." Since Mr. Emanuel is apparently resigned to a certain level of mayhem in his city, he has hectored those perpetrating it to move to another location away from children, but seemingly within the city limits -- the same city limits that he and his alderman would prevent a Christian-run business from occupying.

...Americans should be outraged by this overt intolerance masquerading itself as open-mindedness, the attempt to use government power as an ideological billy club, and the media's calculating effort to take what Cathy said and twist it into something completely different. Yet for progressives and their media enablers, this is the price one is expected to pay for refusing to kowtow to the parameters of political correctness.

On the other hand, it is very likely both Chicago and Boston are violating Mr. Cathy's First Amendment rights. Three Supreme Court cases, Consolidated Edison Co. v. Public Service Commission, Rust v. Sullivan, and Board of County Commissioners v. Umbehr, make it clear that government may not deny a private business permits because of something said by its owner. Unless officials in either Boston or Chicago can produce evidence of discrimination by Chick-fil-A, preventing the company from operating within their respective cities is unconstitutional.

In other words, this controversy has been manufactured, plain and simple. It represents the epitome of the progressive impulse to control individual thought, using the threat of government retaliation as persuasion. It has been egged on by a corrupt media that no longer bothers to get the story right, when the right story doesn't accrue to progressive interests.

It would seem that thousands of Americans "voted" with their pocketbooks for Dan Cathy and his Christian values yesterday.

I read nothing prohibitive, nor exclusionary in his answer to the interview question. Certainly not discriminatory in their practices. Evidence??

The real issue here is an abuse of power for personal gain by the mayors. Using your elected position and vast resources to discriminate who does their legal business there is wrong, possibly illegal, definitely shameless.

Just show me the process in their commercial building codes applications where religious views of an individual employee is the basis for denial of said permit..........

This is hardly just an expression of the Mayors' individual rights of free speech...

The real issue here is an abuse of power for personal gain by the mayors.

The real issue here is an abuse of power by the liberal mainstream media to help garner votes for Obama and the democratic party in November. This whole deal about "homophobia" on the part of Mr. Cathy was fabricated 100% by the liberal media, and it has blown up in their face, much to the embarrassment of them and the democratic party.

It's encouraging that so many Americans took the time, and money, to vote for traditional American values yesterday. It reminds me of the Boston Tea Party in many respects.

I am filled with new hope.

Best,
Ferris

The Most Faith-Intolerant Regime in the History of Our Republic
Obama Surrogates Attack First Amendment

By Mark Alexander, August 2, 2012

No sooner had Barack Hussein Obama launched his campaign Demo-goguery assaulting the Second Amendment last week than his surrogates set about attacking the First Amendment.

Their target of opportunity was Chick-fil-A, the most recent entry on a long list of companies large and small that have come under attack for Christian business practices. Chick-fil-A, however, is just the proverbial tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Left's multi-vectored assault on Judeo-Christian values.

It is worth a brief review of how this attack took shape, as it is very consistent with the modus operandi of Obama's socialist cadres.

I generally prefer to make and enjoy my own sandwiches at home, along with most all of my other meals.

Same with sex.

Fast food AND fast sex is BAD for you, folks.

FWIW, Chik-Fil-A has never really appealed to me... I try my best to seek out and spend my $$$ with the independent joints. I'm lucky enough to work for one as well- echoing Vern's line, with the exception of Easter and Mother's Day, we're closed on Sundays and other "bank" holidays. I believe in "work to live", not "live to work"...

And- there ARE more worthy things to pay attention to in the world besides this tempest in a teapot.

I don't particularly agree with the Chik-Fil-A CEO's views, but then again, I don't have to. He's entirely within his rights to express them.

I also don't agree with some of these politician's reactions to it - that, however, does matter as I agree with you all - it is political thuggery and, if acted on, unconstitutional (they are free to say whatever they like as they are also protected by the first ammendment).

Let's not get all twisted up, though - it's important to remember that both sides are as equally intolerant of one another. Please don't bother trying to offer a rebuttle - there are far too many examples to support my side and you all know it.

I don't understand what ever happened to just "live and let live". The gay community is fighting for equal rights, what difference could it possibly make for anyone who is already in a "traditional family unit", whatever that is...

People scare me.
