Took a Superhawk for a ride at work yesterday and I must say it reminded me a lot of my Buell, this is one sport bike that I would not mind owning. anyone have any experience with one of these? |

I think I remember that they had low gas mileage, but they do look good. |

I had a '99 last year.It was a very fun bike and over all a good experience. Ducbsa is correct about the fuel mileage. They were fitted with the largest carbs ever put on a production bike,48mm Keihin's.Mine did 34 down hill with a tail wind following a Connecticut tag on the back of a Buick. Install Helibars and the riding position is not too bad. They make a really sweet sound with a pipe.I had Jardine's on mine. |

The one I rode is a 98, has Vance & Hines pipes and what look like ceramic coated head pipes. It makes a sweet sound for sure. I'm not sure what they are going to be asking for it yet, I had to get it going after it had been stored for two years, the owner decided to use it for a trade in on something else. (I work at a Kawasaki, Suzuki, Victory, Polaris dealership, but we service everything), supposed to be getting an 07 uly in on trade next week, going to look at that one for sure since I already own one. |

Gas mileage is low. Expect 27 - 33. And consequently, the range is limited. Look for a gas station at about 90 miles. The valve adjust is above medium complexity. Otherwise, a great bike! |

I almost bought one a couple of years ago. Gas mileage and fuel range really killed the deal for me. They can be found at an affordable price though and owners I've talked to really like them a lot. I wish the Japanese would make more bikes like this. |

Woah! why so thirsty? I didn't see that coming. My Honda Fit gets 35-40. (Admittedly, not quite as fast) |

It would be on my short list of neat bikes to pick up as well, and there ain't many Honda's on that list. The fuel economy and resulting range is really the only downside, and there are a lot of ways you could use the bike such that those aren't overly important. |

Saw a neighbor roll through with an RC51 yesterday- that bike and the "Superchicken" still hold a lot of appeal for me! I'd also take a Viffer, plhleeeze, early to mid-90's- with Helibars and all the hard bags... and a motel reservation a state or 2 away!

So 48mm carbs mix poorly at a cruise? Funny, I just assumed they were injected. I was behind one of those red rockets once on the highway just cruising along on my X1 some years back. When his exit came up, he just lifted the front wheel and waved. As much as I love my X1, It doesn't do that I don't know if the guy even downshifted or what. Looked effortless. |

They are big but injected bikes have just as large throttle bodies. |

Injection can give you more proper fueling though. The 1125R has dual 61mm t-bodies. |

Froggy, They are still bad mileage. Pingale has 67MM. It may be proper but performance also has come a ways since the Superhawk. |

It probably has more to do with a super short stroke than the size of the injectors or throttle bodies. Short stroke is great for big top end power, but economy and low RPM power suffer greatly as a result. I don't know what the stroke is on a superhawk, but I bet it is short. |

Dana, I am not sure what you are getting at, the 1125R and the Panigale both get better fuel economy than the superhawk. I'm sure adding electronic fueling to the superhawk could do wonders to improve power and fuel economy. Bill, on the Superhawk the bore is 98mm, with a 66mm stroke. For reference, the 1125R has a 103mm bore with 67.5mm stroke. Also, the XB9 is 89mm bore with a 79mm stroke. |

I'm sure it could Froggy. BTW The Duc gets about 111 miles to a tank when fuel is needed. (Message edited by bads1 on July 23, 2012) |
