If it was a basket case, I'd say part it out. As you've described it, I'd sell it whole. |

Ok, looking at this "objectively": Try to find a complete engine for a Buell or Sportster. You can't for under $1500, if you can find one. A rebuild will cost $2000 in parts. The suspension components on an S-3 are made of "unobtanium", but let's say $500. Already your at $2000 in parts, and you still have the bodywork, gas tank, options, etc. On the other hand, the people interested in the parts would be an ever-shrinking group of S-3 owners, myself included. I have virtually the identical bike, with 38K miles, fresh engine, new rubber, complete bodywork, wide and narrow lids, etc., and have listed it numerous times at $3000 with no one even making an offer. Maybe $2000 is a going price for these, but as with most used bikes that you have (and can enjoy riding), it's just not worth getting rid of it unless it's parted out. And for all of the people dedicated to the Preservation of All Things Tuber: just like most everything else, put the money where the mouth is. What do you do if you don't like neighbors? Buy more land around you. Don't want to see Cabbage Patch Dolls vanish? Buy all you can afford. Don't want to see Tubers parted out? Convince Buelltours to buy them all... |

My opinion of parting out is that it's okay if it's a total loss... If it's a fair example of the breed, it should be placed in a good home. I know a guy that parts out SVO Mustangs, the Fox body Capris and the 79-84 Pace Cars. Most are basket cases, but some are really clean drivers. I cry a little bit being that they're so rare, but some of the parts just aren't available and the 2.3L cars didn't get the love that the v8 cars did, regardless of performance numbers. I may be able to scrape $2,000 together if you're selling it. |

Looks like sell is the way to go...I would probably be open to deliver to just about anywhere in the 48 too, just for another long ride...Thanks for the advice! REVz |
