FYI.... for auto parts I always check with RockAuto.com before pricing at my local parts store. They SMOKE anyone around for a lot of parts.

The refurbishment continues.

Several leaks - rocker cover, rear diff pinion seal, transfer case drain and filler plugs - all weeping - all fixed.

Had front suspension kit fitted - Upper and lower trailing arm bushes, sway bar D bushes, link pin bushes and new steering damper.

Re-gas Aircon.

Kerrr-ching.

It's driving almost like new. Transmission could do with a service and it would be close.

nice thing about those tranny's is they have a drain plug. drain & fill it two or three times & you're good! you'll exchange about 3 qts each time. the filter inside is a steel screen, no need to open it up and replace it

edit: assuming it's an auto

Well Mark, I fixed what you broke and did a little more test driving. More extreme, muddier, all went well. I 'spose it will be time to finish it up soon.

Oddly enough I cannot get pictures while driving it.

So I finally got the timing all set on the 302. I noticed that it wasn't firing right but I just assumed the timing was off a bit. I dug in a little deeper this week and found it wasn't firing on all 8 so I went through the whole thing again and got it firing on all cylinders. WOW is all I can say, can't wait for the O2 sensors to get installed so I can finally get the computer to learn this engine properly.

I just moved it in the driveway and the power on tap is pretty nice and it's only going to get better. : ) I see smokey burnouts in the future.

O2 sensor, computer?

I am getting antique tags for mine. It is a 1971. It will never see 1000 miles in a year.

I doubt mine will do a burn out, the grip with these 38's is amazing. It will either hook up and pull a wheelie(even in the dirt).....or toss a drive shaft or axle into the next county!

I have an 8' high dirt mound in my field, it is near vertical on either side, the Jeep walked over it idling.

I am still afraid to hit the loud pedal even with these heavy half ton Chevy axles, because every time I hammered it with the stock Jeep axles it broke something. The list over the years was like; rear drive shaft a few times, front drive shaft once, rear pinion gear once, front axle once, front drive hubs once, front springs once.

I will get over my fears to break it again, after running it for a while respectable like. It crawls up stuff like a dozer. I think it can reach my "scare me" threshold now! I'm guessing that I will break the tail lights by going over backwards this year.

Well yeah, the pedal has always been there, it is the lack of hoses and fluid that seems to be the problem.....brakes are over rated anyway.

on the short list.... Smittybilt bolt in roll cage.
I would weld it in place once its installed.

I also found a hardtop on craigslist that has all the glass knocked out of it for 50 bucks.
With a few mods, it would make a cool Safari top

Here is what happened today. I had a long day of office work, truck fixing, and mowing. I had just enough energy left to climb into the Jeep climbing up from a five gallon barrel. My son was home to take a few pictures.

The ground got hard and dry, so it was time to see if it would spin, toss a shaft, or wheelie.

It spun three of four tires. Trying it in two wheel drive it just spun like a dragster.

Then it was time to test stupid.....(me). So I put on my five way harness and run it up a bank.

This is the spot we were on Mark. Only this time it was dry and kept walking up without hesitation. Had I gone another foot, Tyler said it would have gone over backwards because the front tires were no longer touching the bank. ......cool, eh?!!!

It is so much more fun now that I can step on the gas with tough axles under me.

Dayum, Vern, looks like you're brewing up a ton of fun there!

Had an all-day GL ride (due to me forgetting basic highway directions), almost ended up out by your place on the LOONG way to Kingsport...

We should catch up sometime soon!

Well I finally got around to taking some pictures of my clown car exhaust. I'm still amazed that he tried passing this off on me. Granted there was no room but still...........

DO NOT HAVE FLUID IN YOUR MOUTH WHILE VIEWING THESE PICS. Don't say I didn't warn you.

You can see where he had to go around where the driveshaft was. I ended up dropping the transfercase a little more so he can stay above the driveshaft with the exhaust and I can have true duals.

So there was no way for a pipe to pass down the left side, past the transfer case?

Mine has the Ford T5 four speed with the 300 transfer case, and clearance on both sides is good. Next up is a GM TH350 with a 705 I think it is called? What ever number it is, the exhaust will still fit past it on both sides.

My cross member was lowered 2" to help with the rear drive shaft angle. I have no body lift.

Wow, that is a bend-em'-up cowboy route!

No room for it to pass on the side and he couldn't go over because I had the transfercase tucked in close to the body. I dropped the case down 2" so now he can stay above the front driveshaft and go in-between the transfercase and the body continuing out the back dumping out after the rear tires. 2.5" all the way back.

Going to drop it off next week so it can be done correctly. He knew after we spoke there was NO way I was accepting that work. I told him he should have stopped what he was doing, tell me that he can't do it properly unless I change some things and not present me with this turd. I think we fully understand what I am expecting from him now. I'll post some pics when it's done.

Ya know.....as far as those pipes go.....a really clever guy could cut the frame rails open on the ends where the pipe would need to enter and exit, and run the pipe inside the box of the frame rails then weld it back together.

He'd be better off cutting wedges out of that pipe and welding it up. Did he use two exhaust tips?!

I'm having a hard time not buying more stuff for it.... : (
Must resist the urge to redo what has been done...
