After a 20 year hiatus have decided to go fishing again. Would be interested in some kind of rod/reel combo that somehow compresses down small enough to fit in the tail bag of the Ulysses. To date most of my fishing has been on slow moving rivers with small lures on spinning tackle or with streamers on kind'a crappy fly fishing gear. Cost is very much an issue. All opinions welcome |

There kind of old, but check out E-bay for the Daiwa minicast or minispin rigs. I think they are from the late 70's or early 80's. |

gofastandlight.com great gear and inexpensive. I bought a penrod and spinning reel that fits in your pocket and works as good as full sized tackle. http://www.gofastandlight.com/Fishing-Rods-Reels/p roducts/5/ |

Popeil's Pocket Fisherman!! They don't make them anymore, but they pop up from time to time on eBay. Also: http://www.aerostich.com/voyageur-mini-fishing-kit .html |

I just use a collapsible pole (from Wal Mart I think) with an old tiny (Zebco 11 micro?) closed face reel (again, I think WalMart) loaded with 4 lb test line. fits easily in a backpack, which fits easily in the Uly side bag. The whole setup was probably less than $30. http://www.amazon.com/Zebco-11-Micro-Fishing-Reel/ dp/B002I33JUA/ref=sr_1_8?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8& qid=1341255364&sr=1-8&keywords=fishing+reel |

I bought a Shakespear Ugly stick pack rod kit about 6 yrs ago, its proven durable, and Ive caught a bunch of fish with it. breaks down into 15" sectiions, and is a 6.6 ft medium action. I want to say that it was about 40 dollars. |

Browning makes a good quality packable multi-piece spinning rod. They are sold through Bass Pro Shops. May not be in the price range you are looking for but I've been very happy with mine. |

Are you talking about "Fishing," or "Catching?" Two different pastimes. |

Thanks for all the posts - Keep them coming Been so long since I went fishing forget what I used to like in the way of equipment. Know I usually fished, slow moving, relatively, shallow rivers. - Usually used small Rapalas w/ 6' spinning rod or big streamers on a kind'a crappy 9' fly rod. Caught a fair number of small to midsize small mouths + the odd walleye. - Most of which I put back. Vary rarely went up small, tributaries of trout streams & used flies. - Few trout were dumb enough to fall for me and the couple that did were put back. Yeh, tell me about your experiences p.s.: Miss having a ride w/ a sissy bar - could lash a regular pole + a rifle to it |
