We just received this... *COLORADO FIRESTORM UPDATE: Please "SHARE" this update. For those of you who are following the story with us here in Australia, here is the latest information we have from the latest news conferences in Colorado; It's currently 7.11pm in Colorado • 346 homes on 34 streets have been destroyed. • No Fatalities in Colorado Springs • One fatality in seperate wildfire burning in Utah • No structures lost since the height of the firestorm on June 26. • Fire now at 10% containment • Several areas have been issued with a "Pre-evacuation notice" which means they can return to their homes, or unfortunately for some, what used to be  here are those areas which can now return; 1) Holland Park 2) Lower Rockrimmon 3) Kissing Camels 4) Pinecliff There are still areas under an Evacuation order, including, but not limited to; 1) Cedar Heights 2) Mtn Shadows 3) Perigrine 4) Upper Rockrimmon 5) Pinon Valley • No new evacuations for Colorado Springs • Further favourable weather conditions will assist firefighters with their progress tomorrow. • Major Highway 24 is expected to remain closed over the weekend. The fire was burning about three miles north of Zion National Park, prompting park officials to close a canyon area popular with hikers known as the Kolob section. • Wildfires that have torched more than 200 square miles and burned dozens of homes in southeastern Montana spread farther Wednesday, with additional evacuations ordered after a blaze south of Roundup jumped a perimeter line built by firefighters. The growing Dahl fire, which has burned more than 60 homes by one estimate, forced an unknown number of residents to leave their homes near its southern flank, on top of an estimated 600 people evacuated the day before. • A wildfire in the Bridger-Teton National Forest has grown from about 2,000 acres to 12,000 acres, or nearly 19 square miles, officials said Wednesday. Hi Vampress, We Coloradans are holding up, doing our best. Several of us live in or near Colorado Springs. For the immediate needs of Firefighters and evacuees the communities have rallied together and have provided an over abundance of supply and love. It will take more time before we know what the families will need who lost their homes, and what our wonderful wilderness will need to mend itself. I have not heard of any of our Buellers who were in the affected areas across the state, but we may be hearing from some soon. I and others will try to let you know. On the racing front, the 90th running of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb has been postponed due to the Waldo Canyon Fire. Race officials are trying to secure a date for later in the summer, but the weather pattern of late makes that a giant unknown. Every past race there are always wildland firefighters on hand to prevent the obvious. This year the stakes are just too high. (Message edited by j2blue on June 29, 2012) | ||

when i saw the smoke from the small fire in boulder while driving home from work last week, i immediately thought of maximum. fortunately, that fire was farther north. but he is as vulnerable as anyone living in the hills around here. | ||

Please say prayers for Jody/ J2Blue too... he is on call as a wildland fire fighter, although he didn't mention it above... nice guy who likes to sleep in a torrential downpour with just a tarp over him... no pole. LOL Be Careful Jody!!!  | ||

We've crisscrossed much of CO the last 3 days. We saw smoke from the Ft. Collins area from way in the distance. Today we saw a burned out canyon just west of Durango, still had burning hot spots, but looked well contained. Burned right to quite a few houses, but a local told us they saved all the homes. No doubt it's terrible to deal with when you are caught up in it, but most of CO is still in great shape despite what the news makes it look like. Ft. Collins and CO Springs sound like they were really bad news though. My prayers to go out to those being affected. | ||

Only problem is the trouble isn't finished yet. Now with those mountainsides moonscape there will be landslide issues to years to come. | ||

Riding through Utah to day it looked worse than anything I saw in Colorado, probably far less populated areas though. Near Scofield the smoke was thick in the air everywhere and they had Rt. 89 closed heading to Scofield. Even down in Moab this morning it was really hazy. Someone told me it was because of the fires, but I don't know what was burning down there. It was hazy all the way from Moab past SLC, then became the normal crystal clear air where you can see well past 100 miles. It's been a long time since I've motored out this way and had forgotten how amazing the sights are. | ||

Sifo, sounds like you are having a great adventure. I hope you do not find too many roads closed. If you are near Moab or Grand Junction there is 141 that goes South from just East of Grand Junction off of 50 to Gateway Colorado (there is a back way from Moab as well). Just about the only thing in Gateway is the resort and Lynn and I try to get out there once a year. It is expensive but we enjoy it. Then of course you are close to 550 (the million dollar highway) which is another great ride into Durango. Lynn and I are near Colorado Springs if you happen to find your way over here. This is amazing stuff seemingly of apocalyptic proportions. Between this and the recent floods in Duluth (MN) as well as back home in the F-L-A, more than one person has said "do you think 2012 is really it?". It has been a difficult year for many folks. My friends in Fort Collins seem to think the worst is behind. Eye opening thought about the future and the potential for landslides, yikes. Last I heard, the Ft. Collins fire was mostly contained. Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected. | ||

Hey, I'm fine. I've been out on a few lightning strike fires that were small. The weather is finally turning to our favor. The so called "monsoon" season has arrived and we have received trace amounts of rain and temperatures in the 90s instead of the 100s. The Waldo Canyon Fire and most of the other big fires in the state are nearly 100% contained. Of course heavy rains could turn into flash floods and landslides in the burn areas. For the most part things are better. |
