We have a lot of non-bike expertise, so let's see if anyone can help me out with this.

We found out two nights ago that my girlfriend's father had passed away. Her mother found out only a few days earlier. The relationship with him was rocky to say the least, and nobody had spoken to him in at least two years.

It turns out that he had died something around a month ago and they just found out now, which seems odd to me considering he was still legally married to her mother, though a long time separated. The only sign that something was up was her mother stopped getting the child support owed to her from the father's disability checks (there's a long story with that if you're interested, but the punch line is the dude was pretty much a total loser).

Anyway, what we're trying to figure out is we have no more information than what I just told you. We don't know when exactly he died, where, how. Last anyone knew he was living in Queens and had congestive heart disease, so we're assuming a heart attack but who knows.

I suggested that my girlfriend get in touch with the NYPD - I'd think that outside of him driving himself to a hospital, they would have been involved at somepoint, weather he called an ambulance himself, someone found him in his apartment 2 weeks after he died, or he got run over crossing the street.

Any other thoughts? They were told they could check something with Social Security, but that database hadn't been updated since June, 2011. She also tried searching for obituaries and came up with nothing besides the one for her grandfather whom had the same name. It's very likely that there was no funeral or anything for this guy.

Thanks, Pwn - we called and got a date, but apparently the CME didn't issue the death certificate, so we have to talk to the records of the hospital he was admitted at tomorrow. They were very helpful in pointing us in the right direction. There's a chance the records will have to picked up in person, but who knows.

The date of his death, by the way, was March 8th. Still blows my mind that it could have happened that long ago and his wife and children, estranged or not, are just finding out about it now.
