Tres Hombres Platter at the Dinosaur BBQ in Troy, NY. Convenient side trip while on my way home from the Lake George Americade. |

Is that Okra? :-) I've got a faculty meeting to welcome incoming students at 6:00pm tomorrow . . . I think I know where I'm going for dinner. |

I see that you got beans for one of your sides. I love their beans. I usually get Pulled Pork with a double order of beans for sides. The Tres Hombres looks pretty good, though. I almost went there on Saturday, but I went to the Hitchin' Post Cafe in New Lebanon, NY, and got a cheeseburger, instead. I haven't eaten at the Dinosaur in a while; It might be time to ride over to Troy again. Or maybe the City or Syracuse. Then again; I haven't been to the Dinosaur in Rochester. That might be something to consider. |

I usually get Pulled Pork I'm sorry John but that always makes me crack up every time I see it. Pulling Pork has an ENTIRELY different connotation in English English, as I'm sure Britchris will confirm. Hope I haven't ruined your appetite. |

Crusty, I've been to all four in NY at least twice now. I've been to Syracuse and Harlem more than Rochester or Troy though. Haven't been to Newark yet. I hear they're also opening one in Connecticut? I just don't want them expanding too much or it'll dilute the brand. |

Ever since "Man vs. Food" revealed the Porksket sandwich to me, I've been eating that almost exclusively... but this past weekend I just felt like digging into a "Tres Hombres" for old times' sake. Slathered on that "Wango Tango" sauce. Mmmmmmmmmmm!! |

I had the Tres Hombres when I was home on R&R leave in April at the Syracuse Dino. The waitress told me that since they put it on the menu, it's been the most popular order. |

Innes; I've also heard that expression, and it's not something I want to eat.(Not that there's anything wrong with that) However, all this talk about BBQ has me thinking about a destination for a ride this coming weekend. Ride to eat, eat to ride. |

I'm most impressed by the fact that neither my friend nor I succumbed to a "Food Coma" on the ride home after dinner. I had another 147 miles to go, and he had six more than that. Last time we were in Watkins Glen and had lunch at the Syracuse Dinosaur, my friend and I had to pull over about halfway back to get off the bike, walk around and WAKE UP. |

I eat well during the week but before the ride home but I find that eating lightly helps me be alert on the slabs. Only a few Buells noted this year but even fewer V-rods. Victory seems to be doing pretty well as they were well represented. Friday night talk mentioned Lithium Iron batteries (still a ?) and speculation that the future of motorcycles is likely to be electric. |

I've had BBQ in the Deep South, and out West. The cooks at the Dinosaur know what they're doing. The all time best BBQ I ever ate was from a little family owned place in Colorado Springs in the '70s. They were right across the street from the Honda shop I worked at, and I ate lunch there every day. It was that good. When they sold the business and retired, life got a little less bright. The people who bought the business didn't have a clue about what good BBQ was, and they folded in just a few months. |

This past weekend was also the Big Apple BBQ Block Party in Manhattan. I missed it, but my friend who went said the crowds and lines were INSANE. http://www.bigapplebbq.org/ |

Crusty, while I was stationed in Colorado Springs from 2007-2010 I spent the first year looking for good BBQ. The Mountain folk just didn't seem to know what good BBQ was. Then Firehouse opened up in Old Colorado City and good BBQ made it to CO Springs. So, don't worry, it is alive and well there at least when I left. |

There's just too many things going on that weekend for me to make it, Froggy. Besides Americade, there is an antique/classic bike show in Rhinebeck, too. One of these years I'll try to make it. What did you think of it? I imagine the aromas must've been HEAVENLY. |

>>>BBQ? In New York?? Impossible...way too far north! That's an accurate statement. Coming from Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City and Mel's on Main Street in the old run down area of downtown Dallas . . . I got spoiled. The Dinosaur is really pretty good . . . but . . . well. . . as I click my Kansan heels . . "there's no place like home, there's no place like home". |

This seems to be the best recurring BW QB theme, BY FAR, that I know of- other than the dog thread, joke thread, and Moxnix' religion thread... Got me to thinking- B B Q? Since we've lost a couple of good BW get-togethers (March Badness, NBD IMHO because of rain frequency), Mark's WV gig (gonna zombiefy it, Mark??), how about,,, Buells, Brews, and Q ('Cue)? I'm a new convert to the slow-smoker "religion", might be fun to have a proper 'cue smoking weekend, with a fun "competition"... mebbe somewhere by the water for swimming after Buelling and whilst BBQ'ing... Whutcha think, youn's?

Yeah, BUT- unless the rides shot northwest into AK for a good while, into the Ozarks, the riding in W. TN is BOOOOOORRING. Just imagine a BuellBQ in E. TN or W. NC... Or, heck, we can just work something up down in Suches GA at that other cool campground on GA60... IIRC they have a nice creek to dip into. Ideally, I'd love to be at a Bueller soiree that guaranteed good roads, serious BBQ and lake access for at least 3 days. Lookin' for excuses to overload my old Nissan truck with the XB on the back and towing my boat... Gotta make some extra dinero just in case. |

Jaime, personally I'd just skip Americade. I went up there a few years ago, I quickly realized it ain't what its cracked up to be. I've been meaning to hit that Rhineback show, I never find out till after its over. I had a great time at the BBQ, lots of great eats from around the county, tried some new things like Pulled Turkey sandwich. Squids, look again, they are punched, they just didn't punch them good enough to make a complete hole. The pass is worth $100 in BBQ, I used it up and then had to tap into my cash reserves. |

Froggy, I LOVE Americade for the SHOPPING. Of course, if you don't ride a GoldWing there isn't as much to spend your cash on... but I love checking out the bikes, running into old friends, checking out the new products, etc. When I used to go for the whole week, I'd do demo rides till I dropped. For three years, I was employed by Yamaha to lead their demo rides (those were the days). After that, the (now defunct) Motorcycle Association of New York State (aka MANYS) would pay for my hotel if I taught an ERC, and spend one day in their booth at the TourExpo. Not as sweet a deal as I got from Yamaha, but not bad. My ex-girlfriend works at Fort William Henry and I take the chance to get caught up with her too when I can (I missed the chance this year because the people at Iron Braid had too long a wait before they got to my Scoot). On the ride home, the detour into Troy doesn't take me THAT much out of the way so of course I've been doing that for the past two years too. I find the atmosphere at Americade far more to my liking than Laconia, Sturgis or Daytona. When I go to Daytona, I actually spend MOST of my time in Orlando at the theme parks. However, it is usually easier to get a demo ride at Daytona than it is at Americade. |

Hey RT, where's that first pic of yours taken? I had BBQ at a place that looks just like that, can't remember the name but it's in Texas Hill Country, maybe out by Marble Falls somewhere. Had a great day's riding out there on HellbuellyJ's S1, ate so much I hurt. |
