Just got nailed from behind by a 20 yr old kid not paying attention . I'm fine but the STT is a write off . Rear subframe wheel bars frame pegs are all toast. I'm well hacked off ,I've had it since new. Good news is I'm all good, ATGATT did what it was supposed to. I suppose the silver lining is that I can go bike shopping again. I'll post pics in a few days time. Grrrrrrrrr |

More or less. And can we please hurry up because he's now late for a tennis match. My response was unprintable . Triumph Explorer or a Guzzi Stelvio next I think. |

Nah they don't come out unless there's an ambulance involved. I took pics at the scene & got his address & insurance details . Of course those that stopped "didn't see anything " but the pics don't lie. Next fun thing will be fighting for a decent price from the insurer. Well I know now what I'll be doing next week, getting the M2 together . |

I suspect that lately you've well-earned your moniker, Grumps!! Hate to say it, but given that I've finally become a "boater", I'm realizing the benefits of water vs. roadways... my XB has sat for quite a while, long past due to "blow out the cobwebs"... Blessed be that you're OK, and that you refrained from decapitating or defenestrating the perp/punk. I'm becoming a firm believer that CEL PHONES AND DRIVING ARE THE WORK OF THE DEVIL. |

Also- DO post the pics- and DO PLEASE post your "unprintable" response to his being late to a tennis match. You could've said... "Oh, I'm sorry, I'M LATE TO MY F***IN' FUNERAL."

It's sometimes hard to remember, even after you get in the habit, but stopping at an intersection: I stop close to the center dividing line (traffic behind you will tend to swerve away from oncoming in a panic); I stay in 1st gear with clutch pulled and foot brake on, until a few cars have stopped safely behind me. I often pump on/off the rear brake to flash my presence. I am thinking hard of a rear brake light flasher device as well. Eyes on the rear view mirror, suspect the worst, and prepare your way out. It's just hard to remember all that, every time. Minds have a tendency to stay active, and thoughts distract! Of course, this is all assuming one is stopped at an intersection. I just hate hearing about stuff like this, and hope it never happens to any of us. (Message edited by fahren on May 31, 2012) |

Lets be careful out there! Grumpy did you find out how long the wires are for his power mirrors? Hondas average 27 ft give or take. A local Radio morning man gave me reason to find out |

Oh yeah, that would have sent me over the edge. Sounds like he might have been on his way to Roland Garros. Good to hear you came out of it well. |

I know what you mean about leaving an escape, but in this case I had nowhere to go. What's annoyed me even more is that we're having a long weekend away and by the time everything got sorted out we'd lost a good 4 hrs. Mind you, I wasn't much in the mood for sleep last night so I banged out 350 miles in the rv while the rest of the tribe slept. Now had a few hours kip & feeling a little stiff but otherwise fine. More miles to do now. Catch you all later. |

Innes, I'm glad you're O.K. Dave, Are 20 year old Shinkos any harder than new Shinkos? |

Mr_grumpy Posted on Thursday, May 31, 2012 Triumph Explorer or a Guzzi Stelvio next I think. Sorry to hear about your accident. I vote Guzzi, for ease of maintenance. But the Triumph... what's not to like about 135 HP! |

Maybe you can ride the Stelvio fast enough over there to make it work on the road. It was geared all wrong for NZ roads. The worst of the engines vibes were right at cruising speeds. I also found the seat quite uncomfortable. Was very good on the dirt however - where you can spool the engine up. Triumph is a better road bike. |

I actually fitted new Shinkos on my Triumph Trophy. Nothing wrong with them for normal road use on a tourer. I was actually meaning any 20 year old rubber - particularly in the Astralian sun. Harder than the fork seals on a CB200 that hasn't started for 20 years. |
