From what I have seen in Fargo, getting a place to live out there in Western ND is the tough part. There is plenty of work for anyone that wants to put in the hours. It seems those that are hiring, are constantly pulling in portable housing as they can't get the bodies they need if they cannot provide the housing. We see convoys of portable housing going down I94 through Fargo on a daily basis. Good luck! | ||

Boog its beautiful country and Wonderful locals Winter can be deadly I have ex inlaws that live there. I loved working on her uncles 500,000 acre + farm I ran the swathers or 800hp gang combines a cross between Star Trek helm and a RV. Adapting to the weather can be tough. Do not take a car or truck from the south there. Buy them in ND or Minn Cold sorts out the cars and trucks Some cars will freeze hoses with the motor running ! | ||

It's way different than Florida. We grew up and spent the first 23 years of our lives in that climate. We know it well. In all fairness, the boom has changed how things are there, but if you are seriously considering making the move, LMK. I may be better informed about how things are there in a couple months.  . | ||

Very cool. I'm thinking sooner so that I can be there when there is the 'summer' there and get aclimated to the cold as it comes on for winter, brrrrrr. Honestly never been anywhere as cold as it gets there i'd rather be in the desert but so far no luck with the job search in the desert i'd like to go to. Figured i'd try my hand up north. Note taken on vehicles. | ||

A cousin was looking into moving there too. He was saying that housing is tough to find. You will get thrown in jail if caught sleeping (living) in your vehicle(of any kind.) He said that if you miss too many days of work, for any reason, including severe weather; you're out! Good luck if you do decide to go. | ||

If you are still interested in an oil job in ND, Baker Hughes recently opened up a new shop here in Minot. I hear the pay is pretty nice and comes with an additional monthly housing allowance to offset the cost of housing. Looks like you might be able to apply online and hopefully minimize the risk of packing up and moving to another state without having work lined up. There are quite a few other companies hiring as well around here, a lot of guys are getting out of the military and taking advantage of the opportunities. |
