An amazing weekend ... BadWebber Tork did a fantastic job as ceremony project officer! I can't imagine the amount of work that went into everything.

Post up Sir and be recognized! I owe you one ... and Thank You!

That is nothing less than amazing. I've been following this in various media and it's an incredible confluence of man, machine and technology.

It's so cool to see a couple fellow Buell riders in the mix . . . .

Well done to both the Captain Captcaz and Tork the Ceremony Project Officer

An awesome ceremony indeed. It was a privilege to be able to work on that project. Discovering that the Captain was a Buell-Brother and fellow BadWebber was icing on the cake. Once our kinship was revealed, we were like a couple of proud parents, comparing pictures of our bikes, stories, etc.

I thought all Navy captains were supposed to be grizzled mean-looking old salts. Life in the Navy must be incredibly easy these days... champagne, cake, young ladies, and your own 338' speed boat. joker

Wait, I may have miscalculated.

Do you ever have to tote around those "Marine" characters?

If so, that puts a whole other perspective on the situation, and you have my sincere sympathy.

Yeah ... we carry 300+ along with 600 tons of their "gear". Eventually taking the ship down to Bishopjb1124's neck of the woods in the future to meet some of his friends.

And a cool sidebar ... my parents were there and it was Dad's sword that cut the cake. Thanks Pops!

It's not the production of great ships that impress me and make me proud of America. It's the men who selflessly give their live to crew them and drive them anywhere their service is needed.

Blessing on her captain and crew.

It's been a while, but we're getting closer. One of the first times underway at speed during builder's trials ... and dare I say she handles better than my XB?
338 feet of ship at 35+ knots never looked soooooo good! More at http://gcaptain.com/hauling-mail-austal-left/?45444

Wowie!

If you are allowed to take any pics of the cargo decks and crew stations, that'd be really interesting.

"Googling" around, it really seems like Austal have done their homework in trying to make this capable of hauling almost any future cargo, modules, systems. Billing it as a "pickup truck of the sea" is actually a GREAT idea. BRING IT, WE'LL HAUL IT (and haul ASS!)

Thanks guys (and thanks Froggy for putting us back on the front page) ... I wish I could post more, but until we (the government) take
possession, there are strict rules regarding info and photos.

I can tell you that the ramp can load a Abrams main battle tank, the flight deck is large enough to land almost all military helos (including
Odie and his H-60 friends!), and the interior cargo spaces are made for max flexibility. For example, if you were to give us a bunch of
portable medical containers, a few humvee ambulances, truckloads of aid supplies, a helicopter, and load the passenger spaces with hospital
staff and flight crews - we're now a mini hospital ship for natural disaster relief that can send relief supplies to stricken areas.

And we can get there pretty quick ...

Thanks for the update. That ship exudes speed even in the pictures. The fact that it's built to be versatile is very smart. If that ship is the pick up truck of the sea then i'm thinking of the Chevy 454SS.......
