The Audi e-Bike

This could provide interesting, thought provoking discussion.

At least it won't be politics...

Audi bought Ducati so that they could build a really bad bicycle?

sense we are talking electric... I was just looking at the ZERO website.

$14,000 for a E-motorcyle
I would love to have one but it would take almost 16 years to pay for itself in gas savings.
Thats if I rode it to work EVERY day, 5 days a week

Did you take into account the cost of the electricity to charge it? You may have to add a few years to your estimate...

Yeah I know... I was being nice : )

But how cool would it be to never have to stop at the gas station!
Nothing but wind noise and the sound of rubber on the road.
No vibes... sneaking up on people and laying on the horn... it would be fun.

If you layed on the horn you would kill the battery and then you would stop, kind of like an emergency horn/brake I guess.

no stats on that thing.... is it a BMX 'trick' bike with little 20 inchers, or a Mt bike with 26's ?
and of course will it haul my fat azz duffer around ?
I am sure it is a pretty penny, but it would have been great to have way back in college when I was doing bike messenger in Seattle.

Now E bike vs small cc gas bike.... gas still wins. Yami has a new 125 cc prototype that is nothing more than an overgrown bicycle

no word on price but it has to be under the ninja 250 / Honda CBR 250 price... or they will never sell !

I thought Ferdinand Pietsch was a moto nut and regretted not buying Ducati years before.

The Audi e-bike is useless...a "design" exercise that has no practical value. For starters, no place to sit. It is a Wii-Xbox kind of fantasy at best...drawn by folks that know a lot about computer games and nothing about bicycles.

I say "design" instead of design because real design involves useful products. This e-bike is like a show car with 40" wheels, chrome and glass everything, no seats, and no engine.

Hmmm, how long will it to take for a regular 12,000$ motorcycle to pay for itself in gas savings? A better way to look at it is you get a motorcycle, AND you don't have to put gas in it!

Not that I am running out to buy one soon...

The electricity to charge the bike is not free.

The electric bikes are interesting but for me, miss the point. I do not ride a bike specifically to save gas money. I can buy a small efficient car for that purpose. I ride for the handling, HP and fun.

saw a couple of reports that it is supposed to do 50 mph .....
bigger tires and wheels and a weight capacity to carry my chunky azz.... It could be in.

Hell maybe I can even get the stupid IRS to give me a tax refund to buy it overseas.

a bit more reasonable, (about 3k)
hand built, classic styling, and regen from pedal power.
Nice tribute to the early board trackers / old grey fellows
