The bleeder nipples on my calipers, won't seal. They weep. Did I over torque the nipples? But at no point did these nipples NOT weep, after testing after the fluid change. If I torque down the nipples further, I'm afraid I'll rip one out. Any thoughts, comments? Don't think Teflon tape will work. | ||

Brand-new calipers, touchy touchy nipples. Supposed I over torqued them. | ||

Could be, Make sure they're clean & the right ones. It's unusual but not unknown to get the wrong nipple with a caliper. Try your old nipples if they're still good. Didn't realise it was a new caliper. | ||

I did a Google search on the subject. On a gxr forum, a guy that sounded like he knew what he was talking about, said that if you over torque the nipple, you'll mare the cone that contacts the nipple that creates the seal inside the caliper. Thus, the caliper is junk. My heart dropped when I read that, Monoblocks are not cheap. | ||

If that is the case, you can try dropping a little copper washer in the bottom of the hole. But that's a very last resort. What sort of caliper is it? Got any pics? | ||

Dirt caught in the seat while doing the bleed? Pull the bleeder out and clean it up real good. It wouldn't take much to keep it from sealing. | ||

Well, after about 150 miles of street riding, while having fun with the front brake, they haven't weeped. When I would test to see if the system was buttoned tight, I'd basically beat the shit out of the calipers. Heavy heavy dragging, so much so, that at times I was pushing my front tire across the pavement. So, she'll only weep if the fluid gets super hot. |
