Yea... maybe. I've always known that it is a popular mod for the YJ but I always thought it gave me more tire clearance outward but it seems as though the mod will give me more wheel well clearance, which is good but I need to go out too.

How wide are the stock flares?

I'm thinking that if the stock flares aren't wide enough that I may go with wider TJ flares. Go out and up with my tire clearance.

Well it looks like my stock flares are about as wide as the stock TJ flares. hmmm.

What sucks for me is I have a Sahara with full flares and I like them like that. I haven't been able to find a wider set of flares that include step part like I have on my Jeep.

I like the "naked" look.... the only problem is all the mud and road grime flying all over the place.

I put some hillbilly mud flares on mine last week... 6" rubber cove base, don't laugh... it works!

Winch plate is in the garage.... Warn M8000 winch is on the way.
Now I can do some wheeling by myself

Nothing really to post except for I'm working on stopping this thing. I figure I'll do the exhaust last.

Ran some water through it and no leaks so far.

Mark, I saw a black bikini top on Craigs list for $20. You still looking for one? It is for a later model, If it is still available I'll grab it if you want it.

Thanks Vern... but I have a "Safari" top sitting on the shelf at home. Its a little bigger than a bikini top and covers the back seat area... flaps around and causes a bunch of noise... and it always wants to me to take the hardtop off and put it on..... I let it talk me into doing the swap and then the temperature drops 20 degrees or it starts raining...

Unless it is fairly cold I pop the full top/doors and run the bikini top just for shade.

Man I got to get back to this project!

Anybody know of a good steering stabilizer for a CJ7???

I have a 79 that I have been working on slowly since 2004 and need a good but cheap stabilizer. I know it's never gon a handle like my 2000 TJ but the CJ walks every where!!!

Thanks
Jimmy

PS I will post pics of them both soon

Bishop, If it is doing that much walking something is not set up right or is worn out. I have a 78 CJ with a 4 inch lift and 35 inch tires no stabilizer and it drives great. I did cut and rotate the C's on the front axle.

It's only got a 3 inch lift on it. It's not horrible, just not as tight as it should be though. I do need to go through all the steering components though to make sure everythings in good working order.

Thanks
Jimmy

Does yours still have the shackles at the front of the front springs? Reversing the springs helps the wondering feeling if the bushings have some play.

Check with Jeg's or one of those companies for a stabilizer. I had one by Skyjacker that worked fine.

So I'm learning a lot about braking systems. I changed over my rear end and went from drum to disk brakes. Well after I replaced all the lines, calipers, shoes and rotors and I'm not getting shit for rear brakes. The only parts I didn't change were the proportioning valve and master cylinder.

Well doing some research I found that PV & MC's are disk/drum specific, looks like I'll be upgrading that stuff too. : )

So looks like I'll be replacing the booster with one out of a 95 Wrangler. Double diaphragm booster vs. the single that is in there now.

I'll also be replacing the MC with one from a 78 Mercury Grand Marquis that had 4 wheel disk brakes. It seems as though it is an almost direct replacement for the one I have in there now.

The only thing I am finding a bunch of different info on is the proportioning valve. Some guys are using one from a 4 wheel disk Cherokee but I'm having a hard time finding one new. I can however find one new for a Jeep Liberty and those have 4 wheel disk as well.

Opinions? I'm thinking that one from a Liberty should work, no?

Summit sells an adjustable proportioning valve...

They can be really fun on the right car!

Years I've been visiting badweb, and somehow never noticed that there was a jeep thread. Guess that happens when one never peeks in the quickboard...

Other than my buells, my ZJ represents the only other real vice/money pit in my life, so here she be:

5.9 motor, arb locked d30 up front, aussie locked and trussed d44hd in the rear, 8" clayton's long arm, big brakes from Vanco, kevin's bumpers, skids, and roof rack, etc. Needs some transfer case love at the moment, but once that's done it should be a total tank

Damnut I was going to mention Vanco for your brake issue, I see Blackjoe mentioned him as well. I tried several different master cylinders that people recomended when I was putting my 4 wheel disc together and none of them seemed to work right. I ended up using a Vanco power brake set up, without a proportioning valve and it has worked great from the start. It was initially more then what I wanted to spend, but it would have seemed cheaper if I hadn't allready bought the parts trying to make something work.

Damnut, not sure if you remember the rc crawler that I had at the lake george ride a few years back, had it out on the rocks today for the first time in a while, good fun.

Still cutting trails here, had 8 jeeps here last Saturday for a trail run and bbq. Running our first offroad 101 day this Saturday for the noobi's in our group. This will be fun, love introducing new people to offroading!

Mike that's awesome!! If I ever get this thing done I might be tempted to come up and join you guys one weekend. I have the option of trailering it up to NY too. : )

Which I'll probably need with my heavy foot.

Those Vanco brake setups are nice but with 2 young kids, trying to save for a house and the wife controlling the books, the days of buying things "cause I need it" are few and far between now. I'm not complaining, I've never had this much cash in the bank in my life. I just can't touch it, which is a good thing. : )

I've researched and found that the 2 parts I mentioned earlier "should" give me the same effect like you have with the Vanco setup. Probably not the same but for a 1/3 of the price I'll take it. At this point, it mostly just the prop valve that I'm wondering about.

wow.....This thread is almost a year old already.

Just think it all started with Wolfie and his stock TJ. lol

And what does that thing look like NOW after a year of ownership? Count up all your receipts yet? WELCOME TO THE CLUB. You were probably better off buying a boat.

Oh and I stopped saving most receipts a while ago for the sake of keeping myself from going into a serious depression and mine isn't even that nice.

I found most of my parts but the stupid PV.

Any of you guys have a line on a PV for a 98ish Grand Cherokee non-ABS 4 wheel disk brakes? lol

I figure it can't hurt.

There's one on feEbay for 50 bucks.
