So yesterday i was shuttling some tires from the warehouse and i noticed this guy broke down on a sport bike on the freeway. When i was heading home for the day in my truck i saw him still sitting there and i pulled over to help him out. By the time i got to his side of the freeway there was a guy with a little wooden lawnmower trailer helping him. I stopped and offered to help push the bike into the trailer and the guys said sure because it had a flat rear tire making it lower. So he steered the bike and i pushed it up the ramp and half way up it snagged on the bottom somewhere. So i looked down and all his motor oil was pouring out of the motor and the guys says oh you broke my oil thing! I did no such thing! I was just helping out a stranded biker. So we pushed it up into the trailer and i got in my truck and got the hell out of there before he got to mad and blamed me for it. I felt bad but it was not my fault he was steering it and should have known better. That's the last time i stop and help anyone again.

It's Bush's fault!

Yep, no good deed goes unpunished. Good on you for lending a hand though.

I remember being at a track day, some kid crashed his bike that he rode there on (and would need to ride home) and bent the shifter up. I offered to bend it back.

SNAP

Oops.

He didn't seem too bent outta shape, though.

Good point- the "biker culture" I grew up with required that you stop and check on a stranded rider...

Once my Shovel (again) took a dump on me, with the GF on the back- within 5 minutes a "good ole boy", emphasis on GOOD, stopped and checked out the situation, whipped out a few tools, and helped me get rolling within another 5-10.

Yes, one should take extra care to reconnoiter the situation, be critical of harebrained efforts, and think things through. Hate to hear about the oil dump, but that should have been avoidable. Oh well, we're all fallible... Prey, don't give up on helping others, just be more observant!

Funniest one I ever had was when I worked for a FIAT & Nissan dealership.

I was on callout for the recovery truck one weekend & got 2 calls within minutes of each other to the same location.

When I got there I couldn't help but laugh, one customer from the FIAT side had stopped to help another guy with a broken down Bluebird whose fuel pump had gone awol.
They'd planned to tow the Nissan to the garage & post the keys through the letter box with a note (common procedure in those days) however the FIAT driver had tied off the tow strap onto the bumper fitting not the chassis & the Bluebird owner had forgotten to release the handbrake.

You can guess at the result.

Fortunately for all the insurance paid.

Helped a Harley guy get on his way last week. There's an Autozone at the entrance to my neighborhood (you know, fat kid and candy store thing) anyway we were coming back from dinner and he looked as if he was trying to roll start it on a slight incline. Dropped the family off, grabbed my pistol (you never know) and headed off down the hill. Seems he thought he'd pick up a new battery for less than $50 (silly harley rider) and had to go home for more cash. Jumped him off the car and sent him on his way.

Preybird, sounds like the person had something jimmy rigged holding his oil in. Something like a real oil plug doesn't just "break off" that easy.

There's the good samaritan law that protects you if you help someone in need and end up breaking their neck by mistake. Don't know if this applies to bikes though.
