How's the heart doing?

It was 7 years ago today that I ended up in the hospital being told "You'll be have a little quad before you leave". I'm another lucky one, riding the bike, hiking, and generally living my life as I want.

I hope you can say the same in 7 years!

The valve is working well, and I'm recovering faster than most of the people who have valve replacement. The surgeon gave me the OK to ride on Friday the 27th, as long as I don't get stupid. I have to be careful to not overstress my upper body, and if I'm feeling overwhelmed, to stop immediately. I've been walking quite a bit (I have a 3/4 mile loop, a 1 mile loop and a 2 mile loop that I use) to try to get back in shape. I'm able to walk a lot further without any problem than before the surgery.(Before the surgery, I couldn't walk two blocks without my heart pounding, my chest aching and shooting pains running up both sides of my neck) Hopefully, after I hit the three month mark, I'll be able to get back into a gym and start working out. This surgery was a wake up call of sorts to me. I 've lost 25 pounds since before the surgery; I want to lose 25 more by Fall, which will bring me down to 200 lbs. Then another 20 pounds by next Spring. I think 180 is a good weight for me.
I'm eager to be able to get out and ride, but I will be cautious. I really hate being hospitalized, and I don't want to wind up back there because I was being stupid.
All in all, The surgery went well and my recovery is going well, and life is looking pretty good.

You'll get there. I walk 2 miles at lunch almost every day and 5 a day or so on the weekend. Lost 35 pounds without starving either! Made my Buell a little faster I'm sure.

Take your time and pay attention to the doctors...after all you're paying THEM to do right by you.

And remember a low hurts BUT a high side WILL leave a hell of a mark!
