Here in my little town of Urbana Ohio we have a little airport known as Grimes Field. Most of the time there are a few private planes like any other small airport BUT…

We have a few B-25 bombers coming in to stage for a fight to Wright Patterson for the Survivors of the Doolittle Raid, sadly there are only 5 left. They are saying that this will be largest gathering of Mitchell bombers since WW II close to 20, Plus a few fighters, a F4U Corsair and the last flying Zero!

If you are anywhere near the Dayton area you really should ride up/down/over this weekend to Urbana and check this out. And for you guys with a extra jingle in your pockets you can buy a ride in one of the B-25s.

BTW there is a B-25 here all the time and it’s owned by the local AND they are restoring a B-17 as well. They also have a DC-3 and there’s a A-26 out back waiting it’s turn for a face lift. BUT let me tell you, you haven’t heard NOTHING until you hear the sound of 40+ round motors in the morning! Makes the hairs on the back of you neck stand up. Plus they are already flying over my place!

Birdy

BTW here's a story in the local paper

About 20 years ago,I got to fly to an air show in LaGrange,Ga from an air museum in Cartersville,Ga in a B-25.I did part of the flight in the nose turret.I'll never forget that day as long as I live.
The Marines had a helicopter and crew on the ground at LaGrange with a large crowd around it.We did a fly-by in the B-25 and a C-47 and stole there thunder.
Nobody on the ground knew we were coming. It was a total surprise.

+1 on the pics!!

Some of us are a bit distant and won't be showing up for the show.

Everytime I hear one of those "round" motors around here I'm running outside and craning my neck.
Last year Vet's day there were several WWII planes circling over my house for about 20 minutes, apparently waiting for the signal to head over to the Rose Bowl, which is about 3 miles from here. So Freakin' Cool!!

I've been told a little known fact (hope it's true) that Doolittle's Raiders did some training here at Pendleton, Oregon back in the day.
This comes from a guy I've worked with who is currently retired. His name is P. Doolittle.

There is no music on this planet like the music made by those magnificent planes. We get a B-17 and a B-25 visit each year for the air show. I really want to pony up for the ride they offer. Bad.

All the DHC-3 otters up here have switched over to turbine, which is a great conversion, but i sure miss that lumbering stucatto music. (the beavers just dont sound as good)
Please keep us posted.

It rained all day yesterday so there was no flying and only 6 B-25s made it in. Today there where a lot more and they were up and at 'em even with high winds.

Bad news is my camera decided to die and the Droid isn't very good for this. Good new is I found a link to the last time they were here on the morning of take off for the fly over.

So sound up if you please and enjoy.
