I don't believe that anyone will see the united effort it took to put together the 20th Anniversary, or Homecoming 2010 ever again from this board. I especially find it symptomatic that when someone pointed that out, the subject was immediately turned to politics. Pity.
How many brand new Buell owners were added this year?
Compared to 2008? Compared to 2003?
What drives Badweb is the excitement of new owners and getting to "show them the ropes" discussing their bikes.
The reason there aren't lively debates about Buells is that we've pretty much said all that there is to be said about Buells. Besides the discussions in Big Bad and Dirty about crank pins or stators in the 1125 forum, there isn't much to talk about.
It isn't like discussions of "not motorcycles" are preventing threads "about motorcycles" from being posted.
If you've got a discussion about Buells you'd like to have, post it up. We'll have a discussion.
If you've got an event you'd like to plan, post it up. We'll help you get it pulled together.
The folks who attended the 20th anniversary held the same political beliefs then that they do now. It's just that there were more interesting things to talk about then than there is now (that and we've seen "the single largest financial upheaval since the Great Depression" which might change things for a few people).
I got to ride with Rocco when he came down for BTF. Except for almost accidentally killing his brother in law when I took an unexpected diversion in front of a purple Mustang, I thought we had a right nice time. Didn't talk politics once.
I also spent some time with Charlotte on the porch at TWO. We didn't scratch each other's eyes out.
I too morn the loss of "the old Badweb", but I don't blame political discussions for it. Without these non-motorcycle threads, Badweb would be dead already. If anything, the discussions here are keeping people coming back to at least see who is arguing about whom.
If you leave here because you don't like the views or opinions of the members of Bad Web, it's YOUR inability to put beliefs aside and enjoy yourself in spite of the opinions of others, and it's your loss.
It's easy to scape goat Politics or Religion or whatever (no not you Charlotte), but if Badweb isn't what you want it to be, it's kinda up to you to make it what you want it to be.
Post up a lively motorcycle related topic to discuss. Label it (Motorcycle Debate), and we'll come running. We haven't had a good fight about countersteering in a long time!
Your Right Crusty. Thats because it took Rocco and I 100's of hours between the 2 of us to get it all right and frankly we burned our self's out. The 20th was much more fun. It started out as idea and Spidey,Lakebueller and I made it happen with help from several. Funny I own the framed 20th picture that was signed by everyone. I thought Erik would have liked to keep it but I guess not. I wonder what happened to the custom painted Erik and the Firebolts XB body work my Son painted for Erik. He must of not cared to keep that also.
Try thinking of the Quick Board like your local library (yes they still exist). If you try to read everything there will be plenty that you find boring, offensive or a waste of your time. If you select wisely you will both entertained and educated.
Great post Tony and it's good to see you on BadWeb again! Yes this place has become a nut house for the crazy political post that continue to show up here daily. You'll be ok as long as you don't pay any attention to these idiots that can't remember that this is a motorcycle forum, I sure don't! If anything, I'm more likely to vote opposite!
I'm sure looking forward to Erik making new motorcycles and this place returning to some sort of sanity real soon!
My fire/passion for motorcycles "was" damn near put out when H-D dropped a deuce on Buell.... its not more than a flicker of what it used to be....
BUT!!
I do look forward to the huge influx of NOOBS once EBR is building a new line of bikes....
Then we can get back on the topic of "What the hell is EBR and the elves thinking?!" "I can fix that in my garage with a hammer, teflon tape and one can of oil" "...cause I is smartser than Erik"
I really can't think of one Badwebber I've met in person that I didn't like. Sometimes I too get aggravated at the amount of soapboxes mounted here lately, but as others have observed, there are reasons for this- and, of course, the QB is totally right and proper for all things- except gerbil jokes...
Once again, good to see old friends here anytime- the "in person" get-togethers are too scarce!
So, anyway, I have put almost 700 miles on so far this year! To some of you that might not be a big deal but here in Iowa, having that many miles before April is big news! How bout the rest of you? Been riding?
I can't ride for at least another couple of weeks, until the surgeon clears me. However, I rode through December, January and February; and even for the first 3 or 4 days of March. Does that count?
She will..... she was taking off on mine last year and loved it. She just felt alittle nervous with a liter bike. The 600 fits the bill. Get it up in the 14000 rpm range and you'd never know its just a 600.lol
I read the thread yesterday and did not think it wise to comment as I have only been a member for a short Time .
A young sailer I know asked me about FAA jobs on the outside . I got my answer here and past it on , and directed him to the thread .He was amazed buy the people here, as I am .
Spidey, Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I was looking over the Matt Ware threads a few weeks ago after his Dad sent me a pic on St. Pat's day.
A few short weeks and it'll be 5 years since my friend lost his battle with brain cancer. He's still talked about oftenamongst family and friends and definitely made a big impact on my life.
The trip Spidey posted about changed my life, both in the purpose of doing the trip, but also those whom supported me and Matt through doing it. It opened up my world to all of the great people I've met through Badweb and motorcycles in general, and for that I am forever grateful.
Lots of the folks I really know from here don't post all that often, but it's great to have them a phone call, or ride, away.
Yep. This thread is spot on. Riding with a lot of the guys I spar with here was great. Don't take it too seriously. No one gets out alive. I love getting under the skin of some of the hardcore people here. That said, it has changed here.
