Just a thought..... it seems that it has been quite a while since Buell went bust, and having said that we all have had several years of getting older and rounder, at least those who are honest about it. Well that's nothing in itself, but the O'l body ain't quite as sharp as it used to be. I think it's been easier to go in straight lines than carving corners as of late. Mind you, I'v been an avid bike guy since 1964 or thereabouts. I started on a Honda 50 step through and quickly went through a plethora of bikes. After the service, I was more able to afford whatever I wanted, well you know, older used stuff anyway. Some of my better rides were a couple different Sportsters, a couple Triumphs and the 'everybody had one or two' Kawasaki Triples. An RD 350 or two and all manner of European dirt bikes. Maico's, Bultaco's, Montesa's, Ossa's, Husky's Ducati's, CZ's and more Bultaco's. At last count, I'v had over 50 different bikes. And while the Cyclone was probably in a tie with an 06 Rubbermount Sporty Bobber, I'v grown weary of biking and trying to go fast like the kids. I guess it's not so much a sellout as a lifestyle change, but I find myself gravitating towards bikes like Rocket Three's or HD Rockers or Honda Fury's. Yea, the slower rider culture. Well neither the Trumpet or Honda or Rocker are by any means slow, they are a better position to watch the scenery go by on. You may be thinking I'm getting all pussed out and saying this stuff, but the reality is, I'm now 60 years old. And while I'm in relative good shape physically and health wise, my attitudes have changed, and the importance factors of my daily doings along with them. I'v given the bike thing up for another Corvette toy, an 82 sweet restored jet. I'm just sayi'n, ya gotta have some kind of toy, and for now, I think it's gott'a be a caged toy. Don't get me wrong, hot babes still look hot, Bad Bikes still look Badd, puffing still expands my mind (only occasionally), and all the 'Candy' still looks like 'Candy'. It's just that I now secure that stuff, take it home and set in a lawn chair with my coffee and smokes and admire it more than wearing it out right off. Now days it's a 'holiday' of sorts to play with my stuff. I think a lot of you will say inside, 'yea, thats me too'. Well another bike might be in the works soon, I ain't dead yet, but I think it will be more likely an oldie, like a 40's or 50's Big Twin or Beezer or Trumpet, hell it could be any weird cool old bike within reason. But my 'Rocket' days are done. And I'm leaning the other way.....quite litterally.....reclining more. Still, when they plant me, I imagine the Bike world will be still going strong, hell it might have to with gas prices always on the climb, it may look like Saigon in a few years, everybody riding little two wheeled get'arounds. And I'm sure the major players will still have fire breathing Rockets on the menu, so don't worry, there will always be 'your slot in time' for bikes and the world they open up, mostly unseen by the Masses. That is, if we can keep from torching the whole world till then. But hay, even Mad Max had bikes.....: )

hey Got, how many miles you have on the Buells?
I've been going thru a change myself The bikes have been put on the back burner for a while since I got into a fitness craze. A totally new path for me and I find myself in the running store or on the internet looking at shoes or running gear now, not Motorcycle superstore anymore! My mc safety boss was scratchin his head when I said I was cutting back to become a fitness instructor! But I will not sell my bikes and I will teach MC safety I love them both! Stay YOUNG!

I understand entirely Gohot, When you realise your mortality it has a marked effect on your outlook to life.

The French say "Ca met le plomb dans la tete" which translates as "It puts lead/weight in your head"

I still love to get out on my bike, but I find myself having "don't really feel like it" days more frequently.

I'm currently looking for a new cage, as somebody made me an offer I couldn't afford to pass up for my Landrover, & my shopping list is vastly different to what it would have been 5-10 years ago.

I can hear the swish of that scythe getting nearer.

My Uly is the answer to the "I'd like a more comfortable bike" issue.

I can't ever see giving up sport bike oriented agility and performance for lounge-ability though.

I guess this is an "older" riders thread so just maybe I should post my feelings. First I agree with all thats been said and respect all for their individual feelings. I however gravitate toward Blakes saying:

"I can't ever see giving up sport bike oriented agility and performance for lounge-ability though."

I also feel that way and I do because, at my age, I have maintained good health, physical fittness, great mental awareness and most of all the desire for sport riding. AND, here in Utah 90% of my riding is canyon carving. Yes I do "feel" the 200 milers more now but a rest stop for a burger or salad, some Gatoraid and a couple of Tylenol I'm back at it just fine. And most of all I love dicing it up with my son on his SV1000 Suzuki. I hope it never comes to an end.

Most of all my favorite saying "RIDE TODAY FOR TOMORROWS RIDE". Stay safe out there everybody. Bob
