From a letter on Jerry Pournelles's blog.

"The health care case at the Supreme Court

Jerry,

I fail to see why people are objecting to the health care mandate. Clearly taking care of the sick is a good thing and the only way it can be affordable is for the healthy to subsidize the sick. Why should we let the states keep us from doing a good thing and caring for the people? While we are at it, a government free from corruption is also a good thing. A number of Governors in Illinois have been sent to jail for corruption. We need better federal oversight of state governments. Also the State of Rhode Island is nearly bankrupt and California has severe problems with their budgets. Of course the South has a poor record on Civil Rights. We need a way to convince the people in the states to let the benevolent federal authorities have greater control. I have a modest proposal to convince the states it is in their interest to allow greater central control. We should enact a law that requires each state to send two children to Washington each year to participate in a televised game….

Mike Plaster"

Thanks, Jerry. Nice to know I have someone watching my back. So far, the criticism at Whittle's video (that kicked off this thread) has been minor but incorrect points and the fact that he appears more animated than usual. The government is projected to shut down in 2027 if we continue down this path so a little emotion could also be described as sanity. We are going broke people and Obama is stepping on the gas yet producing nothing. I partially agree with government stimulus. When Roosevelt practiced it, we built the Hoover Dam and the TVA. With Obama, virtually nothing happened except two year later, he admitted that there are "no shovel ready projects". Oh really. Why is that Mr. President? The stimulus went to his cronies and was wasted.

I appreciate Buellkowski for stepping up. I sneer at Buellinmke for continually being a hit and run person who adds precisely nothing to the debate. We Conservatives will continue to post on Badweb. Eventually, one or more of you who privately and inwardly know that Liberalism is a defunct and disease ridden philosophy that merely enslaves people, will change.

I know you can do it. I did.

They did fast and furious all wrong.
Instead of installing crappy tracking devices they should have re-engineered the guns to fire backwards or simply fill the stocks with c4 rigged to blow when the gun fires.... Then sell them to the mexican drug cartels... call it codename "quick and painless"

Reindog, you have to be very careful to distinguish between conservative and republican. My serious problem with Republicans of today is that they, too are promoters of a crony capitalism, that erodes workers' rights, props up false hopes of upward mobility while keeping the masses in debt and enslaved. The Republican Way of today is just as disease ridden and defunct as anything else out there.

Conservative thought, on the other hand, is a more general term, and not always subject to the political extremes of a radical Right. I just don't think you can conflate the two words; they mean such different things.

Fahren,
We are mostly in agreement and that is precisely why I used the word Conservative over Republican. I disagree that Republicans are as bad as the Democrats. However, in the back room, both are good ole boys desiring to keep the status quo.

People like Paul Ryan are a refreshing exception. Of course, he will be stomped in the Democratically controlled Senate. Ignoring his warnings brings us closer to the cliff.

The Status Quo will not be sustainable very soon but the politicians will still get their pensions.

Why the healthcare bill is a BAD idea

1) New Military Force, beholden ONLY to the President, Armed, and no territorial limits, set specifically for DOMESTIC use. bad ju ju

2) Factoral, Toxic Asset Bundles - the thing that KILLED housing - now in health care.

3) Coverage of 'national' assets to non national recepients - don't f'n fool yourself - Illegals are already on Medicaid- and this thing is MEDICAID on steroids

4) The IRS is incontrol of administartion of data, premium, bank accounts, and property assets

5) National boards of 'quality' that are already rationing and regulating care to be delivered (which if it were a truley free market system, meh- just go to a commercial doctor..... except there wont be any

6) Forced conscription of doctors to 'accept' medicare, medicaid patients.... because they cant make a living doing that - they will leave the practice - excerbating the current shortages

7 ) 'Free' Care . It aint. And as someone that has paid taxes since 14 and will NEVER be anybodies entitlement - I resent the added responsibility.
(IF you are not responsible enough to take care of yourself - personally- why the F%ck do you think that I as a complete stranger should ? )

8) It is pure communism - doctors/hospitals/insurance will be told what to charge, what to take as profit, and who they have to serve - it is ANTI market as it gets.

9) the forced mandate - suck it; INSURANCE is a loosing principal investment. I have been in insurance long enough to know that there are better resources and avenues that work better for my health and situation.

10) New violations of civil liberties for 'violations' of care. This is going to bilk the courts with false and flagarant EEO filings - and as the idiots that wrote this are LAWYERS and not INSURANCE professionals - they are salivating at that fat bank like a hungry rabid dingo left in the pediatrics ward.

and number 11) It AIN'T INSURANCE. It is the ever expanding miserable architecture of MEDICAID - and all the problems that are inherent and bred into that system.

it is saying everyone MUST drive the 84 Reliant K, and ONLY the 84 Reliant K - and since I can afford it - MY reliant K must pay for and offset the cost of those that cannot afford their own ..... ? bullshiate

Anybody that 'Likes' this bill - ain't read it, doesn't have a basic understanding of economics/history/insurance, or was paid off by it... or the trifecta - all three.

IF you 'LIKE' it - go find me the part you like, quote it, and I will show you with historical precidence why it is a bad idea.

Nope, I am not. And as long as you continue to hold Whittle's presentation as "factual" and "important", and my criticisms as "minor" and "incorrect", then I don't see a point in my continued participation (aside from this post).

PJ Media is an opinion/commentary organization, run by conservatives for the express purpose of producing and espousing right-wing viewpoints. This is not "news", and conservatives are the target market, not me. I gave it a listen because I respect you and I am open to challenging ideas, and I was willing to read/comment on two of Whittle's assertions. But, in total, I found the presentation heavy on conspiracy and misinformation and light on evidence intended to convince an "undecided", centrist viewer. Just my 2 cents.

That said, the idea of a "Buell Summit" in SoCal the next time I find myself in Lake Forest holds a lot more appeal to me.

In the WSJ today, Peggy Noonan has articulated what I have been trying to write. Give it a whirl. Here is an excerpt.

quote:

Something's happening to President Obama's relationship with those who are inclined not to like his policies. They are now inclined not to like him. His supporters would say, "Nothing new there," but actually I think there is. I'm referring to the broad, stable, nonradical, non-birther right. Among them the level of dislike for the president has ratcheted up sharply the past few months.

It's not due to the election, and it's not because the Republican candidates are so compelling and making such brilliant cases against him. That, actually, isn't happening.

What is happening is that the president is coming across more and more as a trimmer, as an operator who's not operating in good faith. This is hardening positions and leading to increased political bitterness. And it's his fault, too. As an increase in polarization is a bad thing, it's a big fault.

Why wouldn't you watch the whole video? It is factual and informative.

I wouldn't watch the whole video because I have better things to do with my time. The guy talking in that video is just another political pundit telling people with the same viewpoints what they want to hear.

I don't need anyone else to tell me about how bad politicians are in this country - I already know that they are all scumbags. What we all need is real solutions to solve our problems. Provide solutions and opinions will change.

Good article Reindog. There are many examples I would have liked added to that piece, but a writer is limited by the length of the piece they are writing. Noonan certainly captures much of my feelings about BO.

Honestly, when he was elected I was afraid that he would be more like Clinton and not really do anything to speak of. This would most likely have lead to the economic pendulum taking a natural swing back to a good economy which BO certainly would have taken full credit for. This scenario was not one I looked forward to. The current scenario is far, far worse though.

Whittle IS a pundit. He is unabashedly Conservative. ( a far different thing than Republican... though I dislike D politicians more, I have little good to say about many R politicians )

He is also a very well spoken fellow. I particularly like his vid/editorial on the Reno racing plane crash.

BW makes no bones about his ideology and bias. Unlike the talking heads on the evening news, who if they are smart enough to have an opinion, usually won't admit that it influences their actions.

Compare BW to Bill Maher. ( one of the few on his ideology to make no bones about his beliefs ) One shows contempt for "average" Americans. He thinks you are all hicks and fools. The other has open contempt for those who believe themselves elite, without reason.

I don't agree with everything his says, and he is as fallible as the next guy. I do suggest you watch his comparison of the French and American revolutions, and the fundamental difference both in concept and result. The years after 1776 were not perfect, but we didn't slaughter our own people in pursuit of ideological purity.

Other countries have.

Okay. To lighten things up, I will be a Merchant of Looking Forward to Good Things. It's Friday night and am getting a little toasted, Max, my cat, is hanging with me, and we are watching television together. We just narrowly missed winning the historic Lotto a couple of hours ago but dreaming about winning for over a day and for only the cost of one dollar, is one of the best bargains in the entire world. <--- GRAMMAR ALERT!

Even Hannity doesn't really have anything to say right now and is tiresome.

Everybody happy? Might be riding with Al to Utah to some racing event during Memorial Day. That sounds like a great Uly ride ... racing, riding, twisty riding, casinos, lots of time to think while riding. What more could you want?

You are welcome to read the ACTUAL text of the bill, and show me where I am wrong.

I have been attacking this thing for two years, and as of yet I have not found one person that has read it - that can argue for it. And I mean the actual text, not the talking points they are given as cliff's notes. Its a bad bill. and it solves NOTHING of what it set out to do - and spends Trillions doing it.

It is one notch above ant bridges in the dessert

Yes, health care is in trouble - but the solution is NOT more government. It is, as it has always been - self reliance, self determination, independence.

"If I knew for a certainty that a man was coming to my house with the conscious design of doing me good, I should run for my life." Henry David Thoreau
It was true then, it is true now.
The notion that it takes a Village - is cr@p - it fosters social loafing and mescreiant entitlement.

And they always start with 'for the good of the children'.... It is socialist encroachment - I prefer to be where they are running away from it, because they know it FAILS than where we are running into it like it is the new 'American Dream'

(and I am not a fan of Social Security either - just another social engineered Ponzi administrative boondoggle - it is the digital version of what Hitler did to the Jews - a number that follows you cradle to grave; It was a bad idea when it was tattoo'd upon them, and it is bad idea now - just wait until it goes RFI with a chip)
