Curtis,

I think you need to read what Obama stated, in total on the issue. He made a bid deal about race and suggested that the entire nation needed to do some soul searching.

WTF? Racism and gross hyper-over-generalization exploitation of a singular incident towards once again badmouthing America. DISGUSTING!

folks if you would just take a few minutes out of your precious time of bashing our President and listen to the 911 tapes, I think even you guys would figure it out that Zimmerman was running after this kid when the 911 dispatcher clearly stated several times NOT to continue to persue the suspect and that the police were on the way to the scene. Zimmerman's comment was these kids always get away and continued to chase the kid.

After the police arrest Zimmerman and they go to trial with the 911 tapes with Zimmerman talking to the dispatcher, the trial will be almost over with. The only decision will be if it's life in prison or death by injection! This is a clear cut case! I just don't see why it has taken so long to arrest this idiot!

I wouldn't linch the guy so fast.. without all the evidence... Wasn't there multiple robberies recently in the same development? There are witnesses, and I bet some may be too scared to speak publicly because of the publicity and death threats from the idiot lynch mobs.

Garry:

Although I agree with you, you always go to great lengths to look like a idiot.

In the instant case, I'll concede that you are 100% correct about Murdoch.

Now . . .

Tell me what in the good name of anything is has to do with the topic under discussion?

I've never read any posts that reeked of such latent schizophrenia. Someone says something and if you're unable to marshal a cogent comment you run to the sand pile and start kicking.

Odd . . on your best day.

I'm missing the part where you show that Zimmerman committed any crime.

It's obvious that you need to review the facts released so far about the incident, you know, like from the police and eye-witness.

Suffice it to say, you've been misled. Be careful where you get your news.

For the as yet uneducated:

Is speaking to someone now provocation for receiving a beating? According to the law it isn't. It's called assault and battery.

I sure hope this is a valuable lesson on the bias of the media.

quote:

With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk, leaving him bloody and battered, law-enforcement authorities told the Orlando Sentinel.

That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say. There have been no reports that a witness saw the initial punch Zimmerman told police about.

Zimmerman has not spoken publicly about what happened Feb. 26. But that night, and in later meetings, he described and re-enacted for police what he says took place.

In his version of events, Zimmerman had turned around and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from behind, the two exchanged words and then Trayvon punched him in the nose, sending him to the ground, and began beating him. ...

On Feb. 26, when Zimmerman first spotted Trayvon, he called police and reported a suspicious person, describing Trayvon as black, acting strangely and perhaps on drugs.

Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot. When a dispatch employee asked Zimmerman if he was following the 17-year-old, Zimmerman said yes. The dispatcher told Zimmerman he did not need to do that.

There is about a one-minute gap during which police say they're not sure what happened.

Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.

Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, he told police. Trayvon then said, "Well, you do now" or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose, according to the account he gave police.

Zimmerman fell to the ground and Trayvon got on top of him and began slamming his head into the sidewalk, he told police.

Zimmerman began yelling for help.

Several witnesses heard those cries, and there has been a dispute about whether they came from Zimmerman or Trayvon.

Lawyers for Trayvon's family say it was Trayvon, but police say their evidence indicates it was Zimmerman.

One witness, who has since talked to local television news reporters, told police he saw Zimmerman on the ground with Trayvon on top, pounding him — and was unequivocal that it was Zimmerman who was crying for help.

Zimmerman then shot Trayvon once in the chest at very close range, according to authorities.

quote:

On Monday, more questions arose in the already murky case, with Sanford police confirming the details of an Orlando Sentinel report, which cited unnamed authorities saying Zimmerman told them Martin punched him in the nose after the two exchanged words.

Police said Monday the Sentinel account is "consistent with the information provided to the State Attorney's office by the police department." The newspaper reported that Zimmerman said Martin then repeatedly punched him and slammed his head into the sidewalk.

Blake,
There is no mention of race.
">> well, i’m the head of the executive branch . and the attorney general reports to me. so i‘ve got to be careful about my statements to make sure that we’re not impairing any investigation that’s taking place right now. but obviously, this is a tragedy. i can only imagine what these parents are going through. and when i think about this boy, i think about my own kids. and you know, i think every parent in america should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this. and that everybody pulls together, federal, state and local, to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened. so i’m glad that not only is the justice department looking into it, i understand now that the governor of the state of florida has formed a task force to investigate what is taking place. to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen. and that means that we examine the laws and the context for what happened. as well as the specifics of the incident. but my main message is to the parents of trayvon martin. you know, if i had a son, he would look like trayvon. and, you know, i think they are right to expect that all of us as americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves and that we’re going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened."

That is definitely some outrageous racism right there.
The statement about "if I had a son" was him talking about how much he empathized with a family who just lost a child.
Or I guess it could have been malicious racism...

This is how this thread started. These two pictures have been ubiquitous but disingenuous. Martin's picture is years old. Zimmerman looks like he is wearing prison garb.

This is a more recent picture of Martin. Would Obama have stepped in it if this had been the universally distributed picture?

The really strange part is that it is suddenly a lot more difficult to find the younger Martin picture on the Internet since this afternoon.

The real question is why has the media only used the out of date photo of Martin?

>>> There is no mention of race.

"if i had a son, he would look like trayvon"

What exactly do you figure he was talking about with that statement?

Your transcript is very poor. Here's one that appears accurate. Yours is not.

Question: Mr. President, may I ask you about this current case in Florida, very controversial, allegations of lingering racism within our society — the so-called do not — I’m sorry — Stand Your Ground law and the justice in that? Can you comment on the Trayvon Martin case, sir?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, I’m the head of the executive branch, and the Attorney General reports to me so I’ve got to be careful about my statements to make sure that we’re not impairing any investigation that’s taking place right now.

But obviously, this is a tragedy. I can only imagine what these parents are going through. And when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids. And I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this, and that everybody pulls together — federal, state and local — to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened.

So I’m glad that not only is the Justice Department looking into it, I understand now that the governor of the state of Florida has formed a task force to investigate what’s taking place. I think all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen. And that means that examine the laws and the context for what happened, as well as the specifics of the incident.

But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin. If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon. And I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves, and that we’re going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.

Thank you.

purple,

Obama stunk to high heaven with implications of race. He made his unwise statement at the time that Farrakhan, Sharpton, and the New Black Panthers were stirring it up. A leader and a CEO would stay out as ANY words would affect the investigation and possible outcome. What planet are you on?

He misses the bigger picture.

The President of the US has commented on a possible criminal case to push 2 of his agendas.

First, and foremost, to get re-elected using hate, envy, and the Alinsky Way.

Second, to push an anti-Constitutional agenda including the elimination of the First and Second Amendments.

In so doing the President has made it certain that the shooter ( Zimmerman ) cannot get a fair trial. When Nixon pulled this crap, he was vilified.

I'd like to present a name here to ponder in the context of being tried in the media before the courts: Richard Jewell

He was "known" to be guilty and his "guilt" prevented a timely solution of the actual crime.

That is precisely all the more reason to not comment on the case. He has prejudiced it and as Aesquire noted, for political gain.

from President Obama:

quote:

THE PRESIDENT: Well, I’m the head of the executive branch, and the Attorney General reports to me so I’ve got to be careful about my statements to make sure that we’re not impairing any investigation that’s taking place right now.

At this point, he should have stopped. He would have shown leadership and that his people were on the case. But Andy, this is all about Obama as. It always is. The man is a narcissist and an egomaniac.

In all honesty I wish Zimmerman had listened to the cops. then none of this would have happened.

As i haven't seen the autopsy report i cant pass judgment. The ballistics would tell the tale a little more clearly.

This is just a bunch of crap from top to bottom.

+1 to the truth needing to come out.
The whole situation is shining a light on the application of the "stand your ground" law. It's a good law in theory but it can easily be abused when one of the parties doesn't survive and there isn't a lot of evidence or witnesses. The survivor just has to claim self-defense.
There was a case recently where a man chased down a thief and stabbed him to death. The thiefs lethal weapon; the stolen car stereo in a sack.
Again, a good law in theory but it shouldnt be used lightly. In the Zimmerman Martin case it might be justified but it should get closer scrutiny. There are aligations that the initial investigation wasn't handled correctly, that Zimmerman and the witnesses weren't questioned properly. Of course with all the grandstanding on race and incomplete or incorrect reporting it's hard to tell how much is truth and how much is hearsay. Hopefully an investigation will prove whether Zimmerman was justified or if not.
