Went to the Cup race today.

Holy crap is was empty! I like three wide passing but it takes 15 laps to complete a pass here now. So IMO there isn't really any passing AND they took the wrecks away from us!

I have know that the track was on the decline since the reconfigure but today sealed the deal. Bristol is dead!

Oh and the only reason I went was because a friend of a friend had extra tickets that he literally couldn't give away!

No one is a bigger critic of the 2012 US economy but even I can't blame this travesty on the economy 100%. 60% track 40% economy.

Thanks for reading my rant.

We stopped going to the spring race because of weather concerns. It sucks pulling the camper 18-20 hours down the road from cold MN only to have a snow delay during the Saturday race. Would they benefit by pushing the date back a week or two, I don't know. We used to camp over at Farmer Bob's. From the aerial shots Sunday, it looked like the campgrounds on that side of 394 were pretty empty, sad.

Well, to sugar coat it a bit there were still 100 thousand people there...supposedly. There was a time when you couldn't get tickets for the race unless you bought them the day after the previous one ran. Nowadays no track is full. I don't blame the racing at Bristol...I blame gas prices AND ticket prices. Hardly anyone goes to racing anymore. I saw it at Road America last year...the place used to always be packed for the A.M.A races. Last year it looked like a CCS race in terms of fans. I know I wouldn't of gone if it wasn't for getting free tickets for eating at Subway. Same thing is going on at my local 1/4 mile oval. They are having a hard time getting fans to show up. That in turn hurts the drivers. It's hard these days with buying tickets, food, and gas...it will break you. I can barely afford to go to a dinner and a movie lately. Point being that NASCAR races are even more expensive. I used to go to at least three a year...other than a Nationwide race hear or there, I haven't been to a Cup race in years!

Yeah, racing for a fan is/was one of the first things to be cut when the economy went south in 08.
With the organization that I race with - its 50 bucks for a weekend pass + food and gas etc, yeah, for a family of 3, that adds up super quick.

Cant imagine nascar pricing (I checked a couple years ago and the cheapest tickets were 60 bucks a pop, not sure if/how they've changed) + concessions and parking fees etc

Id love to go to a nascar race at Bristol, looks interesting.
Two years ago we had delays due to water seeping up on the top end of the 1/4mile track (drag), so we had three hours to do whatever - Bristol has tours for five bucks, so I took the pitbike over for that. Such a small track, so many seats for fans, looks super cool!

Louden cost me like $25.00 for full access....course, that was during bike week races.
And what's a super bowl ticket cost.....just to see a bunch of guys that you don't know and can't get close to.......banging heads?
Louden.......walk right up the racers and hear their stories....

I agree about superbowl prices, but when my Lions get there for the first time I'm gonna do whatever I can to get there.
Side note, a fun free thing to do if you're a football fan is training camp. At lions camp you're basically on the sideline during practice. Great experience for kids playing football, so they can see that pros do basically the same drills and such during practice as kids do. Plus you can get some pretty cool pics--
