The South will rise again.
To be correct, one must use the Scotch-Irish wording.
The South shall rise again!

Never happen, it's too cold up y'alls way

I know, but I still hope.

It always seemed strange to me when some come down here to live, and then bitch that it's better where they came from...

It's not the weather that attracts me. Or a lot of others up here.

I was born in Southern Illinois, raised in South Texas and now live in the South, by choice. My only worry is............................................

nah I'm not worried. Let them believe what they are gonna believe, keeps them away. If you KNOW, not just know, a true southerner, then you have a good friend.

The video despite what is claimed is obviously not representative of Mississippi at large.

I'd like to see all of it.

I grew up in western Pennsylvania, both country (rural near Washington, PA), suburb steel town (Baden, PA), and small town (Waterford & Girard, PA). Spent a lot of time in Dewittville, NY. Moved south to attend college in Dallas, TX. Met a nice southern girl. Lived in & around Dallas for ten years. Spent time working all over, Dallas, NJ, Kilgore, TX; Brazil, Alaska, Portugal, British Columbia, the Middle-East, England, Japan, and South Korea. Spent time in Mexico and Toronto and most of our American states.

Aside from the angry Islamists, people are pretty much the same wherever you go. Cultures, traditions and such may differ, but people are a mix from exceptionally wonderful to confused to ignorant to horrible wherever you go. There's mean southerners and gold hearted yankees, just like there are angry bigots in the North and color-blind Folks in the South.

What really struck me about the Maher panel, was not the Mississippi video, but the Marxism among some of the panelists.

They talk about the "social safety net" and at around 7:50 of the video the woman actually states that "you can't have a bounce (from poverty to success) when you have a 1% and a 99%." That kind of moronic total lack of intellect is typical of so many Leftist ideologues. Nothing but emotional buzzword claptrap nonsense.

Earlier she asserted that capitalism was saved by FDR and social safety net efforts. Possibly true. But it's also true that the great depression itself was instigated by failure of govt, just as with the recent housing/mortgage crash.

Yet the Dems want more, more, more! It's maddening.

The guy sitting on Maher's left at around 8:25 in the video says "You've made some poor decisions, so let's fix the system that has sort of forced you into those poor decisions." Marxists always imagine the state (federal govt) as the answer to any perceived social inequality; they call it "social justice." It's never the fault of the individual. It's lunacy.

Can we all agree?... Safety-net/trampoline yes! Hammock no!

The challenge is to agree on where the line dividing the two lies. Three years unemployment pay? I'd say one is sufficient. And then recipients would be put to work doing SOMETHING to contribute to society.

But you see that EXACT kine of reasoning here on Badweb.

I ran away from home or took drugs or didn't prepare financially or dropped out of school or got my girlfriend pregnant or got pregnant or became an alcoholic or partied away my opportunities in college or whatever and because my live didn't turn out as well as someone who DIDN'T make these mistakes or choices I want the Federal government to take from the successful person and give to me.

NO ONE who advocates for Progressive ideals wants the result of their own choices.

The dirty little secret is that people are going to make poor choices. These choices have PERMANENT impact on their lives. These impacts may mean that they NEVER recover. If you leave home, get on drugs, get knocked up, fail to have insurance, and choose a line of work with limited economic opportunities, your life is going to be significantly harder than someone who didn't make these choices.

The "system" didn't do this too you. Your choices did this too you. Wanting to escape your circumstances is normal. Working to overcome these choices is hard. Wanting the Federal government to stick a gun in the face of others to extract funds to give to you is much easier. It is also selfish and evil.

The BEST result would be to work to prevent others from making the same mistakes. You are a roadsign of what happens when you make bad decisions. You can help others from making the same mistakes.

Additionally, you can work to escape your circumstances. That too can be a roadsigns to others who are where you are. If you succeeded, maybe they can too.

By becoming a permanent victim and advocating Progressive ideals, you destroy the opportunities for you and others to escape your current circumstances. You also rob yourself and others of the benefits of your experiences.

You might be a redneck...

You might be a redneck if: It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase, One nation, under God.

You might be a redneck if: You've never protested about seeing the 10 Commandments posted in public places.

You might be a redneck if: You still say Christmas instead of Winter Festival.

You might be a redneck if: You bow your head when someone prays.

You might be a redneck if: You stand and place your hand over your heart when they play the National Anthem.

You might be a redneck if: You treat our armed forces veterans with great respect, and always have.

You might be a redneck if: You've never burned an American flag, nor intend to.

You might be a redneck if: You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening.

You might be a redneck if: You respect your elders and raised your kids to do the same.

You might be a redneck if: You'd give your last dollar to a friend.

I might just be a redneck!

Liberal places need freaks on leashes and elderly men in lipstick and thongs so that it projects a lie of personal freedom when in reality they are the most governed and regulated.

Appalachian WhiteTrash reporting for duty.

We need not "rise" up as the vast majority were never knocked down...nor gave up.

"I'm moist."

This thread is not one of those times.

Thanks for the endorsement Mike!

I too miss T.W.O, things just ain't the same up that way any longer, but the new owners of "Not Dale's" are good moto-friendly people.
So there's that, camping and hanging out at T.W.O is sorely missed.
I'm still in touch with GT and he's getting on with things, just on his own raising goats and such. I think though now he has more time to ride, and that's always a big plus.
