It all happened so fast. My family and I are extremely relieved of the good news. I got diagnosed with Cancer stg2 after a biopsy and had CT\PET scans showing all the bad spots and then had the tumor and some lympth nodes removed... and doctor/team says they get 100% (99.999% of all cancer out of your system) then says,.. because of this, you do not need any Chemo or radiation and that we/they will keep close watch on me for next couple years. I hope I don't have to fight another fight but ..."my" fight... seemed so easy compared to so many others who suffer far worse. I feel I don't qualify to say I am a cancer survivor. Would you consider yourself a Cancer Surviver? I joined a few cancer forum/sites but they seems to all run slow or not at all. | ||

Early detection is the key. Glad to hear you were able to take care of it without chemo and radiation but you are indeed a cancer survivor. We need to all be aware that with early detection, (you have to go to the doctor!), there is a much better chance that those diagnosed can kick cancers a$$. Continue to Hope and Pray that someday we will have a Cure and live in a cancer free world. | ||

Congrats on your good news. What kind of cancer? You are indeed a survivor. You are not, however, necessarily "cured," hence the need for continued close monitoring. Cancer exists at the cellular level, so "removing" every trace of cancer, whether it be via excision, radiation, and/or chemotherapy, can be very difficult, if not impossible. I'm not a doctor; this is just my opinion based on my own observations and research. It'd be easier to help you find additional resources, such as online forums, etc., if we knew the kind of cancer in question. All that said: Good news!  FB | ||

My cancer was from smoking. Tumor was in my throat, and I've known it was cancer since the biopsy Feb 8th. I recovering from the da Vinci® TORS TransOral Robotic Surgery (TORS) surgery and also a Neck dissection. Yes you are a cancer survivor. Different cancers are very different. Your Dr. can probably give the best answers to the likelihood of survival x years out. Sound like your Dr. gave you a very good prognosis on long term survival though. Great news. | ||

I hope you quit smoking. A buddy on mine went through chemo and the whole bit. It really knocked him back on his heels and he still smokes. The cancer is back and he's going to die, if not this time then the next. A smart guy can take a hint. Good luck and long life to you. | ||

That is good news, very good to be a survivor. During my first ever colonoscopy the Doctor reviewing the procedure said he saw something he did not like, he wrote the phone number of another Doctor at the top of my report and said to call him, I did and made an appointment. At the appointment this Doctor is using the "C" word left and right telling me I have cancer, my response was "it's not everyday someone tells you you have cancer", his response was "it's not everyday that it is caught early enough that we can do something about it, and you will be cancer free" anyway the Doctor laid out his plan for me telling me exactly what he was going to do, how long it would take etc. That was a year and a half ago, I am still cancer free. The real time table for being cancer free is five years, if you are clear over that time period you are considered cured. | ||

I don't care what the doc says or why or how. When it comes to your life, get a second independent (different hospital, someone recommended by a trusted friend or associate) oncologist's [edit to add...] opinion. Too many doctors are just plain arrogant and don't give a darn. Insurance pushes for the least costly solution. Great news if it holds out though! (Message edited by blake on March 09, 2012) | ||

I would highly recommend the book Anticancer. I have friends that strongly recommended it as helping them. Blake, I've been in Wis since 1980. I don't think we've met, but I was at the first 3 homecomings. I have an old workmate Bueller in Cal., Jim Armstrong. While we definitely don't agree politically, this site has been a great resource, especially in the early days. Thanks! I do try to refrain from hit and runs, but sometimes it seems like my patriotic duty..... oh well | ||
