I need new tires and a belt... I don't know what I'll get yet, but that is not my question.

The buell mech at my dealership quit a year or so ago and he was a really cool guy. If he was there, I could walk up and ask any question I had about my bike. He didn't shoo my out of the bay and didn't mind if I watched him.

I really appreciated this and I could do the same back in the day at the small shop I bought my Honda.

Can any of you guys give a shout out for a good dealership to go to? N Illinois / S Wisconsin - Lakeshore, McHenry, Kenosha are near to me (just for reference...).

Thanks!

Do you know where your favorite tech went?
Perhaps he's working in an independent shop that would appreciate a visit.

I do my own tires and belt change. Not that hard and good experience if you ever need to do a roadside repair. Worst case, any bike shop, Honda or otherwise, can mount a tire for you.

When I was having them do my maintenance I really liked Kutter Harley In Monroe, WI. They have their main store in Janesville.
I've heard nothing but good about Hals, in New Berlin, WI. too.

I'm right here in Lake Villa. Racine HD has the belts in stock usually. McHenry, Ukes, and Lakeshore all order them when needed. I believe McHenry charges $40 per wheel for mount and balance. Could be different now, as I have been changing my own tires for 2 years. The HD dealers were the only ones that would change the tires because of the front brake. I have not found anyone else in the area. As far as the belt goes, bring your Buell to my shop and I'll put it up on the lift and have it done in about 15 minutes.

Just noticed you have an 03. Not sure if Racine carries that belt, or if you have converted yours to the newer style.

FWIW, I ran across a sweet sale price.

Should I expect any problems with the dealership mounting tires I bought myself?

The cost is going to be way high.
They usually charge more for tires they didn't sell.
If it's an H-D dealership, their labor prices are really high anyway.

Midknyte, since you are looking at MC superstore, use their recommended tire mounting places - see their list of options for your area, they show prices, etc. I found a great shop through them, $25 per wheel, bringing in the wheels off the bike. Might or might not help with your belt replacement, but covers you for your tires at least.

For $15 ea more on the same site you can get the PR2's which more people seem to like. You can make up the difference on where you get them mounted.

I've got a PR2 on the back & like it a lot.
I'm probably going to bite the bullet & shell out for a PR3 for the front.

Also I intend to get equipped for changing my own boots, with the number of vehicles that pass through my hands the equipment to do cars, trucks & bikes will pay for itself in short order.
