The e-book thread & music thread prompted me to kick this off. Currently. Bill Bryson - Notes from a small island. Terry pratchett - Making Money. Forsyth - The Negotiator. George Macdonald Fraser - The Reavers. Feel free to tell us what you're reading. If you'd like to give a brief review or opinion of it, knock yourselves out. __________________________________________________ ____ Good grief, I can't believe that the long version of Fred is classed as bad language. Is every word that starts with F & ends ck excluded? Lets see, the little bits of colour you get in your iris, or in paint, a or flecks in plural form. I think this thing need reprogramming. |

"In the Garden of Beasts" by Eric Larson The first five Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Mars" books (free!) to get ready for "John Carter" next month... Bismark: A Life by Jonathan Steinburg. This one's taking a while... American Sniper: The Autobiography by Chris Kyle. Simple read, but great insight. The Detachment by Barry Eisler. Part of a series that I will get more into in the near future. |

Just received a used copy of Louis L'Amour's book of poetry, "Smoke From This Altar"... got it through Amazon, from a Goodwill all the way out in Washington state- happy to give them money... Most folks don't know he did poetry- it's absolutely beautiful! The following is not representative of the bulk of what's in the book, but if I ever had to perform at a poetry slam, this would be my pick... My Three Friends" by Louis L'Amour I have three friends, three faithful friends, more faithful could not be- and every night, by the dim firelight, they come to sit with me. The first of these is tall and thin with hollow cheeks, and a toothless grin, a ghastly tare, and scraggly hair, and an ugly lump for a chin. The second of these is short and fat with beady eyes, like a starving rat- he was soaked in sin to his oily skin, and verminous, at that. The crouching one is of ape-like plan, formed like a beast that resembled man: a freakish thing, with arms a-swing, and he was the third of that gruesome clan. The first I stabbed with a Chinese knife, and left on the white beach sand, with his ghastly stare, and blood-soaked hair, and an out-flung, claw-like hand; The fat one stole a crumbling crust, that he wolfed in his swinish way- so I left him there, with eyes a-glare, and his head cut of half-way. We fought to kill, the brute and I, that the one that lived might eat, so I killed him too, and made a stew, and dined on human meat. And so these three come to visit me, when without the night winds howl- the one with the leer, the one with a sneer, and and one with a brutish scowl; Their lips are dumb, but the three dead come and crouch by the hollow grate- the man that I stabbed, the man that I cut, and the gruesome thing that I ate. Their lips are sealed, with blood congealed, but they will not let me be, and so they haunt, grim, ghastly, and gaunt, till death shall set me free. I have three friends, three faithful friends, more faithful could not be- and every night, by the dim firelight, they come to sit with me. |

George Macdonald Fraser The Flashman Papers is my all time favorite book series. Most recently - American Sniper by Chris Kyle, a navy SEAL with over 150 confirmed kills. Killing Lincoln is next in the rotation. Louis L'Amour westerns and Sackett novels are good. Zane Grey's Riders of the Purple Sage is a classic. |

This &^%$#*& thread! and a stack of business paperwork. And what am I listening to? A compressor running and the DA sander that is keeping it running. What am I looking at? My Uly and the H7 bulb on my desk that needs to be installed. If I am lucky I will have time to get the bulb in.....but I won't have a chance to ride today. What a beautiful, sunny, warm day for February 23.....70F degrees and breezy. Wearing shorts and a T shirt to work for the first time this year. Except for the ocean being 500 miles away, it is like being at the beach! |

For my Psyc class of Spirituality and religion i am reading "The afterlife experiments" which scientifically proves an afterlife, and is written by my professor Dr. Gary Schwartz. I LOVE this class, we are going through and scientifically PROVING God's existence -I know ill probably have some questions and what not about this, and/or controversy but please I digress as I am not nearly as well versed at the moment as I pray to be later in the year.- Thank You Jake |

I am off to meet Eric Holder and can you believe they actually asked me if I had any questions for him? Yeah . . yeah I do.

Will do! I LOVE this class....I will never miss it! lol He has 3 books out that are great (as far as i have read at the moment) The Afterlife Experiments The G.O.D. Experiments The Sacred Promise However the first book we read is called "The integral theory of everything" by Ervin Lazlo -which goes through and points out the flaws in modern Physics/quantum physics/ biology...and a couple other sciences i believe but those are the main ones. Now my professor had one of the youngest tenures in Yale's history, as well as a Ph.D from Harvard -where he also taught- and now teaches at The University of Arizona, for Psyc, Medicine, neurology, psychiatry, and surgery, he moved due to personal interest and the ability to peruse his passion of proving the supernatural...and God essentially. OMG- Ender's Game? Orson Scott Card is a badass. Be prepared to acquire the sequels. One of my faves. Check out his biography too- who would've known a Mormon could do sci-fi so well? He's done historical fiction as well. He ranks up there with Herbert- I used to be a sci-fi geek. Dangit if there's too many miles for me to waste time at my favorite used bookstore now. Gotta get a gas-sippin commuter bike now I guess. |

You might wanna start rationing your need for sleep. I once got into a kick for female sci-fi writers... "Primary Inversion" is a good one. "Grass", or anything by Sheri Tepper, is great. |
