That's cute.....kinda reminds me of my old Radio Shack "Armatron" robot arm. Wonder how many tries it took to get the results shown.......

Kind of neat how the gripper works...

quote:

The robo-hand features a “universal jamming gripper,” basically a balloon filled with sand. Or, as the researchers put it, a “mass of granular material encased in an elastic membrane.” The hand can be quickly hardened by evacuating the air inside the membrane, like vacuum-packing. If the gripper is placed over a small object — a ball, a dart, a coin — the hand tightly grasps it as the air is released. By pumping air back into the hand, the robot loosens its grip and can effectively “shoot” objects a meter or so in front of it.

Spending millions of grant dollars on a thing like that will keep three or four unemployed idiots out of work for life. It seems to be an obamination of sorts.

Or it could be used in situations where robots are already present due to the risks to human life being too great, such as hazmat handling. : )

Anyone else realize... basketball will now be mechanized! Then you get to add cool things like flamethrowers and saws and such too.

Sifo: Cool demo. How much did that cost us?

Froggy...we don't need no stinkin hazmat robots! Everything today is considered hazmat (even the band-aids in hospital, thanks to the gov't your generation desires!

I used to work with nuclear sub reactor "hot water". Still here too

Off topic, but did you ever wonder where the HIV blood from a cadaver goes? Here in Milwaukee---Lake Michigan! Now I'd consider that to be hazmat for sure
