Subject to approval from work, I will be there Thursday thru Saturday. I will be camping again & I will be bringing a sleeping bag this time! My better half has already provided her blessing for the trip & I am looking forward to seeing the E.B.R team in action. RU passing thru Jax on your way down to Daytona? Chris C
I just got off the phone with the folks at Daytona. Last year, there was a lot of confusion about tickets and camping, etc.
This morning, I spoke with a ticket sales rep. I told her that last year, I had bought tickets for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
She told me that the infield would be open on Thursday and Friday, and with no racing scheduled for Thursday or Friday, I didn't need a ticket, that I could just roll right in, and the Geico Caveman area is (during the 200 weekend) considered just a part of the infield, there is no charge to camp there.
She said that holding a ticket for the Saturday race is all I needed for the weekend.
The cost (with fees) is $59.00...
My ticket is in the mail. I will set up my camp in the now traditional turn 3 area.
I would call to confirm that information, twice even.
I was in Jupiter, Florida last year when I called to see if I could camp on Thursday evening. They said no. However, everyone else was told yes.
This caused me a last minute scramble to reserve a campsite where I was at on Thursday afternoon, and it put me in the middle of a nasty downpour on Friday morning that I could have been hanging out inside my tent for.
Apparently, last year at least, if you bought a ticket for the entire event it included infield camping for free. THAT was supposed to be Thur, Fri and Sat nights.
YOU must be packed up and out of there by 11 AM on Sunday or the State Troopers will clear your campsite for you.
Glad that crazy Brit is bringing a sleeping bag this year. He won't have to shack up with old one eyed Bubba and his HD trailer...
"I would call to confirm that information, twice even. "
Char is right. Im actually going to Daytona the weekend of the 28th for the Rolex 24Hr race. Me and two friends. We've made SIX calls to DIS and gotten different information on each phone call regarding camping. It sucks.
As for THIS race. I really really want to go, but just dont see how I'll be able to swing it, and not really wanting to ride the 1125R for 10 hours of slab. But who knows, if some locals (Char?) go, I'll think more of it. Maybe take the dads bike. We'll see, I really do want to be there though
I've made that trip a few times... If I ride the bike, I need to add the price of a set of tires to the total. Running the slab for 2000 miles will flat spot or damn near cord a rear tire.
Today, I got my ticket for Saturday. I had ordered it because the person I spoke with said THAT ticket would give me access on Thursday and Friday as well "because there are no events on Thursday or Friday".
There ARE events, and the flier I got with the ticket showed them.
Here is the confusing part. On the flier, for Thursday it lists three ticket options. For the purposes of setting up camp and watching qualifying, the obvious choice would be the $15.00 "Unreserved grandstand and infield access"....THAT ticket is NOT available except AT THE GATE.
Buy the $20.00 General admission/standing room only ticket if you do not want to hassle with finding tickets when you get there.
For Friday, same deal. The obvious ticket choice is not sold in advance, buy the General admission Standing room only ticket for $20.00
I ordered mine for Thursday and Friday, and they were nice enough to waive the $14.00 surcharge because I had just bought the Saturday ticket.
This should iron out some of the questions.
PS: Access to the camping area: Use the Turn 4 Tunnel right off International Speedway Blvd. If you go to any other entrance, they won't have a clue!!!
