OMG Rat, Morgan has the same growth that your other dog had. : )

Sorry, had to.

And I also agree, they know their life has made a drastic change for the better. Seems Bella's whole life has played out here on Badweb.

Well I haven't been on badweb in quite some time but I have to say I was thrilled when I saw "Dog Thread" and loved reading some of the rescue stories!
This is my baby, Barkley. He'll be 2 years old in February and is so cute, loving, hilarious, and a big ball of energy. I'm sure I'll have stories to share quite often : )

Grace is something else... all wiggles and tail going crazy.
I think my wife is willing to go see her... fingers crossed!
The thing about adopting a bully breed here is its a REAL PAIN IN THE ASS!
You have to fill out a ton of paperwork and answer a bunch of questions. The Humane Agent comes to your house at least twice. First to drop the dog off and make sure where you plan on keeping the dog is good to go. Then they come back in 30 days to finalize the adoption and to double check everything. I had to change my homeowners policy... give references... I think you could almost adopt a child easier.

Thats kinda why I'm willing to take in another... most people wont go to the trouble

Mark- I'd mentioned it before, but you need a "doggie dooley", especially if you get #4...

Last weekend, I had to play "turd golf" all around my backyard- our dog (1) has an aggravating habit of dumping real close to the house, in the most likely places we might walk. Took a couple dozen "strokes" to clear everything to the garden...

Oh well- she's a sweet dog, worth all the trouble... actually, that's about all the trouble she presents, total. I just wish she'd learned my old buddy's habit- he always dumped out of the way, in the brush.

That last pit's pics are beautiful, BTW- don't usually see that sable color unless it's a Weimaraner!

Wolf,

The trick is to make her think that it'll be HER dog. Years ago that worked with my ex wife when I needed a second dog. Now the dog didn't see it that way but by then there was nothing ex wife could do about it...lol

I have debated over whether to share all this or not, but I think I will.

We have three dogs in our house. One of them is a 10 year old collie named Bonnie that we got for my daughter, but as often happens, Bonnie turned out to by mine and my wife's dog instead. When my daughter moved out, Bonnie of course stayed behind. My daughter has since moved back with husband and another dog.

Anyway, Bonnie has suffered for a while with arthritis in her hips and has become pretty sedentary. This ended up leading to her licking her legs out of boredom and causing sores on them. We give her medicine for the arthritis, doctor the sores, and try to care for her the best we can. It is a constant battle to keep her as healthy as possible.

Well, just before Christmas, the day before my wife and I were going out of town, I found a pretty nasty sore on one of her legs. My daughter and her husband were going to be caring for Bonnie while we were out of town, so I showed her the sore and the medicine we have from the vet to care for them.

While we were out of town, my daughter called and told us Bonnie would not get up at all and had not eaten for several days. I told her to get her to the vet and call me from there. To make a long story short, the vets did surgery on several sores.

Bonnie continued to refuse to eat or get up for another day while we traveled home. After getting home I took Bonnie back to the vet. The vet said she had paresis and could not tell where her back legs are. We started her on steroids. The steroids have returned her appetite and she is eating again.

That was about three weeks ago. She has gotten better very slowly. In those three weeks I have had to carry her outside to use the bathroom and often hold her up to do it. I can't count the times I have had to wash urine and feces out of her hair as she has gone to the bathroom while lying down. I am doing a load or two of laundry every day trying to keep up with the towels and her bedding. Bonnie weighs about 65 pounds and I am the only one who can carry her around. She also has taken to getting me up 4-5 times a night to be taken outside or because the steroids have made her thirsty and she needs water.

She is getting better, but I don't know how long I can keep this up. I am sleepy all the time. The lack of sleep makes me grumpy and I still have to work 50 hours a week or more.

Sorry for the pity party, I am just tired. I can't imagine facing having to have her put down. Other than her inability to walk, she is healthy and alert. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. I am really praying she gets well soon. She can sometimes walk short distances now if you help her up. She still can't get up by herself or walk very far. She still is soiling herself, especially while I am at work, which I can't do anything about. She also does it sometimes at other times too, though.

This is really the hard part of owning and loving pets.

Dyna...
You are doing a great job and your dedication is well above average!
My hat and heart is off to you!

Me and My better half has had to deal with 5 dog old dogs, critical illnesses in the past 18 months, and the inevitable decision to euthanize them.
More for them, than for me.

No need to go into all my dog friends details, but I might offer a bit of advice that you can take or leave...

You are in charge of you beloved friends quality of life.
As you look at Bonnie in the eyes, what do you see... If you see much pain and suffering, then you know what to do.
If you see that spark of life still there than you are currently doing the right thing.

Obviously you care deeply for Bonnie and you will no doubt make the right choice for her.

I had to put my dog down on December 12th. Sure took the joy out of Christmas for me. First time in over 24 years I didn't have a dog down around .

I think they tell you when it's time to go, I just didn't do a very good job of listening to mine.It was the first time I ever had to have a dog put down before I miss him every day . I'm already looking for another dog.

Dyna,

We just went through a similar experience with our dog, Ralph. He was "healthy" other than the fact he was unable to support his backside. He had to be lifted by a towel and basically carried outside to go potty. Ralph was almost 11 years old, 95 lbs. Old English Sheepdog.

We did this for a month until he finally couldn't stand to pee and just laid in the yard. With help, I managed to get him in the truck and take him to the vet. We all knew that the time had come that his quality of life was not what it should have been. While it was a hard decision, it was a necessary call on our part to put him down.

Bonnie knows that you've loved her and have given her a good home. It may be time to help her to the Rainbow Bridge and allow her to be free again. I know it's a decision that will not come easily, but you will know when it's time.

Best wishes.
