BOO- the Italian Greyhounds are cool, but due to their size and speed they can break bones easily- had a neighbor with those hounds and he shared that with me.

My Basenji buddy was in his prime back then- if you can live up to the requirements of that breed (NOT easy), they're great dogs. Loki was *almost* as quick as those greyhounds, but smarter- he knew what to do to "cut them off at the pass" and tackle them every time, which would scare the poor things to death and end the chase games.

Good memories! Do look into rescues, whatever you do!

We rescued a Jack Russell, and when we called they told us to meet them and do the paperwork at a local mega-flee market (traders world, right next to the big creepy Jesus that burned down on I-75).

Makes it pretty funny to say we got our dog at a flea-market... we sound so white trash. : )

I remember hearing that Touchdown Jesus had burned down...but I digress.

Here's a normal evening chilling in front of the television for an evening ear massage.

He is part chichuahua, but mostly weiner. His name is Duke, and he belongs to Carol and Jerry. They do not know it yet, but he told me he wants to come home with me!

Duke looks upset in that picture. How dare you to dress that poor dog up and embarrass him with a Harley hat?

Char, if you get Jerry to say yes I suppose I could agree. I say this only because I am sure Jerry would never let him go with you. Not that he doesn't love you......but Duke is King!

Char, taking him home would be the best decision you've ever made. Those little guys have enough personality for 4 dogs..

The only time you can get a photo of the Dukester is when he has a shirt on... apparently he thinks he can't move in it. I wish Carol could load up the video we made. That little dog had me laughing my ass off.

Yeah for you Zane ! ! He looks beautiful. Wife and I rescued our first GSD back in 1992. Never even considered them when we were looking. Previous owner turned him over to animal control. He was about 85 lbs when we got him and you could see his heart beating thru his ribcage, he was soooo thin. Ears fly bitten and scabbed 3/4 of the way down. Haunches had no fur because of the chain he was always attached to. When we went in to look at him he had this look of "I really don't care about anything" to him.
We took a chance and over the next 2 years we got him to the weight he should have been at (105 of solid muscle and freakin HUGE. Had to be direct German lineage) And he went from aloof to protective to possessive. NO one could get near my wife that he did not want there. Long story short. . . absolutely the BEST move we could have ever made. He taught us a LOT. I miss the hell out of him; passed 13 years ago this coming May (On my wifes B-day no less) and one month before out 1st kid was born. I believe to this day he was telling us "I have taught you all I can about being a mom and dad and now I need to go." (getting all misty writing this)
We are now on our last years of our 2nd "old man" (12 1/2 and counting. . . 20 days younger than our oldest kid) and I can NOT think of getting another breed.

Chief has been a God send for me. It's been kinda lonely here in Phoenix by myself but he's been tons of company.

As you can see, he's settled in and is making himself comfortable. Sneaks into my bed after I've fallen a sleep too.

Best we can tell, Chief is almost a year old and right now weighs about 65 pounds. It's all muscle. I would guess he won't get much taller but will fill out some and get to the 75-80 pound range.

Life if better with a dog.

Sneaking into your bed. . . . .Ohhhhhh yeah. He's was just waiting for you to pick him up. That look in the pic and him coming around as fast as he has. He's is going to be the best friend you will probably ever have.

Don't doubt that for a second, Weaponxbs.

Call me crazy but I've always believed that rescue dogs know they've been rescued and that makes them more loyal. Seems that way with my last 2 rescued dogs.

The only problem I've has so far is that my Snausages bill has gone through the roof...lol

My boy Max just turned up with liver disease. I have to feed him a low-protein diet for two weeks and have him retested. The vet said if the enzymes are still high the prognosis is not good. Wasn't looking for that. He's 12 but seems in very good health and is frisky. He has been the best dog in the world ...

Wolfridgerider, what a difference between the two photos!! From completely defeated to happy and joyful. Having done that for a the dog you should be proud of yourself.

Ulywife. Anyone that says dogs don't smile or don't have feelings has never lived with a dog.

Dwardo, Chief and I will hold a good thought for Max. Please let us all know what happens.

They both look fantastic.

Rescues DO appreciate it. I have two - one is SEVENTEEN, and still plays with the 6 year old pug, and the other rescue - a 2 year old one-eye black and white somethingorother (border mix?).

They love each other, they love me...and they'll be loyal forever. A guy just can't ask for more : )

Here's Morgan, the border-something, a couple days after her eye removal surgery. It was either injured as a puppy, or she was born with a bad one, but she doesn't miss it one bit. Catches, runs, plays, and runs into stuff even less frequently than *I* do!

And here's pre-surgery. Shame she and Kelsey don't get along : )
