One of my "purest" riding experiences was when I had my 1964 XLCH. There wasn't a single gauge or light on the whole bike. Took a little getting used but I liked it.

That old school throttle without the return spring did make it easy to pop open the tank and see how much gas I had, so I guess it did have a fuel gauge of sorts.

Sorry about my last comment grumps, it did come off a bit harsh, but if someone can't handle something that is out of your normal line of focus, and doesn't need to ever be looked at regardless if it is there or not, then I honestly feel that riding might be too involved for that someone.

quote:

you want to know if your tires are low? hows it handeling/turning.

Handles the same at 50psi and 60psi based on my experience.

quote:

you want to know if the tires are up to temp enough, twist the throttle and see if she spins.

The traction control on my next bike won't let me. : )

quote:

oil pressure? is it still running...?! then there is enough.

Yea, or you can run it on the low end like the oil burning XB, and cause permanent damage before there is any indication of a failure.

quote:

oil temp? well if the coolant temp is fine, so is the oil.

The oil cooler has no fans, and I'm not even sure if it has a thermostat for the winter. I would like to be able to monitor it especially in the conditions I ride in.

quote:

i dont need a camera to show me whats in front of the bike, i have eyes, i will look for myself.

I know you live out in the middle of nowhere like me. Can you see deer standing in the road half a mile away on a unlit straight road when it is pitch black out? No, but the FLIR makes them stick out like a sore thumb. Also great for spotting pedestrians and cyclists who aren't wearing anything high vis or reflective. The best part? You can spot the police long before they get you in radar range. The only down side? I doubt many of us here have the $7k+ it takes to buy a setup similar to that of the Goldwing featured here.

quote:

i dont need mirrors to tell me whats behind.

I don't need mirrors either, I got a nice reverse view camera to let me see whats up, and soon I'll be able to record it which will be nice to have as evidence if I am ever struck and they drive off.

quote:

do you really think many things are close behind me for more then a couple seconds?

From the sound of it you are going faster than traffic. Slow down, save gas, and give the cops one less reason to pull you over : )

quote:

i dont need turn signals. my arms work and my finger can also point.

Not at night. Also, you need them to pass inspection in NY, so thats why my XB hasn't been inspected in 3 years : D

quote:

speedometer? all thats going to do is tell me exactly how screwed i am when i see all those flashing lights. the cop will do the same when he talks to me.

Again whos fault is that? : )

quote:

a tach? well, my ears accomplish the same thing.

This is probably the only one I can agree on, but my Blast has no tach, so I don't know what RPM it is running at. If the tach died on my XB or 1125, I would still be fine.

quote:

gps? well there is one on my phone, if its time to go home ill get it out and figure out where i am.

You are missing out on the easiest way to find all the nice roads : )

quote:

and a tire pressure warning system that mounts on the valve stem

I already use the same TPMS as the Goldwing in the first post. I'll look into the other gauges, it would be nice to have the extra info on hand.

quote:

you may a well stay home and play video games

Well I learned how to drive from videogames, so it may just be second nature to me to have information at my finger tips like which way I'm going, where on the map I am, how fast I'm going, how much health I have left, and how many more hookers I need to run down.

quote:

What's next, electric motorcycles for everyone......oh no!

Oh yes! Bring them on. No more of the unreliable gas crap.

quote:

we all know that's impossible !

Thats the truth!

I hardly ever look at the tach or speedometer.......and always end up where I want to go.
All the gadgets or none............it's the ride that counts.

Unless your obsessed by timed rallies or that sort of thing,

If you read the thread linked, that's exactly what that guy does. Hardcore timed rally riding. I think with full tanks (bike, pillion tank, trailer) he has 30+ gallons onboard.

... he also has 2 other Goldwings for normal riding.
