Hmm. The children might have to learn to read books. |

Communicate directly... possibly even face-to-face? This frightens me. Might have to stock up on fresher ammunition though... |

My biggest concern: Will this affect our ECMs? Pushing a Buell doesn't seem like it would be near as much fun as riding one. Will this be our fate? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5PeMa9xGQY&feature =related |

My Landrover will still be running, got a Bosch VE series cable operated injector pump. Any old crap diesel will do in it as well, even heating oil. |

Hmmm, was just thinking too all those fancy rigs I've been driving for the last few years will be junk as they've all got computer controlled gearboxes. All the old farts like me who can drive a Fuller or Eaton, will be back in demand. No speed cameras, No digital tachograph, No satellite tracking, No cell phone ringing every hour with the transport manager whingeing on. Be just like the good old days, I'm ready!! |

It's probable that the black boxes on our Buells will survive any emp that is likely. The computer that runs the pump at the gas station though........ probably not. It's a good question about fancy car stability/shifting/traction systems though. And I'm not at all sure my VW's diesel computer can survive. It all depends. If I'm lucky, it'll happen at night. ( see "Inconstant Moon" by Larry Niven. ) Tinfoil hats will be pretty useless. I'm a big fan of Disaster week on Discovery Channel. Flood, landslide, tsunami, volcano, supervolcano, asteroid/comet strike, etc. etc. Superflares are one of many "going to happen, just don't know when" disasters. ( and disaster means bad star, after all ) |

"Will this affect our ECMs?" If nothing unusual happened to them 11 years ago during the last solar storm then nothing likely will happen during the next one unless it's the mother of all cataclysms like that depicted in the film "Knowing", then we're all toast, so to speak. |

Funny- a few days ago I listened to a news piece about the probability this year of an EMP attack on the US, along with the odds of a serious cyber-attack as well... Makes me kinda wish I still had my 82 Beemer in the shed, ready to go... Oh well. |

Do you 'spose it is safe to wear a lead helmet? I did some studies on the aluminum foil hats and found that lead will protect the neurons in the brain better from an EMP. It seems the Pulse waves that hit a round hat directly can pass right through aluminum foil, at an angle it will be deflected. My concern is if I will become more retarded if I accidentally lick the inside of the helmet. |

I think if you crinkle up the tin foil before you shape it into a helmet lining, you'd be better off. All those micro-deflected angles would diffuse the rays better. If you lick the inside, just be sure you are not outside in sub-freezing temperatures. But your mother already warned you about that. |
