My 12 year old lad got a "Lexibook Yeno" tablet for christmas. It runs on Android 2.2 & comes with some games pre-installed & loads of other features that I have no clue about, but I can't find any way of controlling the internet content on the thing. Basically Mrs G & I want to block adult content. Got any ideas? |

Mr_Grumpy, go to the android market, and type in web filter, I am sure you will find a few apps , and some may be freee or cheep. to block unwanted sites. Just need to make sure in their description that its for the version of android, and tablet you have. |

Gonna take a wild stab at some stuff here... The Lexibook Yeno seems to be a French market thing. A lot of lower cost Android tabs didn't get the stamp of approval from Google so they don't come ready to go with the standard Google suite - including Android Marketplace. This might be where you're at. Not knowing anything about your particular device, I'd guess that your first stop will be to track down the .apk for the Google Apps and / or Google Market (try http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?att achmentid=466954&d=1292620802). The link I posted claims to be for 2.2.7 so uncertain about compatibility. Look around. After you get the tablet to be able to install stuff from the proper Android Market, you'll probably find what you're looking for WRT content filters, etc. I think. My enthusiasm for electronica is gone. I just do the bare minimum to get what I need these days so sorry I don't have more info for ya. -Saro |

Hee hee, Stopping a 12 year old from going anywhere they want to on the web. Might have better luck just telling them not to be looking at naked people. Just saying..... |

Try out the webnanny thing Jamiec linked, but I wouldn't count on it too much, it was stupidly easy to get around on my tablet, but I run Android 3.2 not 2.2 so I don't know if that is the difference. Ken, not all of the ponies are pink!

> Basically Mrs G & I want to block adult content Duct tape... But on a serious note, the nice thing about tablets is a general lack of storage space. Any naughty lurking is going to be fleeting & ephemeral. And personally, I think these devices lend themselves more to self [that is the device itself] involved activities - just figuring out how the damn things work and how to personalize them. I got tablets for my kids and they immediatly set upon loading them up with games. Kids will and should be kids - I found stuff on a clandestine look-see on my sons laptop. All I saw was a healthy interest, and no more. A really small "collection" as it were... I personally felt good about that in that we do not demonize it, and it would seem that I have not engendered the reactive over-interest that happens in response. |
