I agree with that. I strop my razor before every shave. I tried one time to not do it and my face burned. Lesson learned. I am looking to buy a couple more razors so I can have one shave ready all the time. Many places have free honing but with practice you can do your own. I believe I am going to try a Hart razor because looking at the web site the craftsmanship looks fantastic. I agree that if the product has good quality it is worth the extra price.

I need to get my son in on this thread. He has gone off the deep end with the shaving deal.
He has a number of antique straight razors and such.

I'll send him a link to the thread...

Y'all are WAY more patient with a razor than I ever could be! I can slice myself with a cartridge style razor.

The vibrating 5-bladed fusion thingamajig is amazing. About 10 seconds and my shave in the shower is finished. At first I had scoffed at the five blades and vibe feature as gimmick, but it really works well.

Yeah I have been using the same one you've got Blake and it does the job well and quick which is what I think actually caused the shift to throw aways.

I still can't see 260+ for a razor. Or really any blade for that matter. I do have a couple of very expensive knives I got as gifts they are just a smidge better than the 30-50 dollar jobs that most places carry.

I swapped to a Merkur Futur DE razor. I shave my face and head with it.

http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Futur-Safety-Razor-Fi nish/dp/B000JPKLUU

Blades are anywhere from $1.50 to $10.00 for a pack of 10.

The razor can cut through a forest, heavy and feels like a tank.

There is a slight learning curve for using a DE razor, but I love it. Actually, I think I learned about the DE razor from the here about two years ago.

Been wetshaving for 2 years now, I'm never going back!!

I use vintage gold Gillette double edged ($6 on ebay), ebay badger hair brush ($5!), Van Der Hagen soap ($2 at CVS) and Derby blades ($12 for 100). Once you get the hang of it you'll never go back. Badgerandblade.com is a really good wetshaving forum. I've been thinking of upgrading to a Parker model that's extra heavy and long handled, about $35 online.

Take it slow, PREP is key (hot shower, hot towel), DON'T PRESS it into your skin, let the razor's weight do it's thing. Do a couple passes and don't shave where there's no lather left, just reapply in a circular motion.

You can get good American-made vintage razors off of ebay, Gilette is a good brand.
